Wayne was a devout Patriot, and a product of that era of Political Climate.. Sinatra was a die hard Liberal, and friend of Mob Bosses across the US. Wayne held to his principles, not out of malice, but simply he loved this Country, and didnt see himself as being anything but that.. Wayne supported our Armed Forces, and believed in what the US was doing.. was he RIGHT in all of this > ? no.. and Lennons criticism of Wayne was simply Lennon being Lennon. he isnt the best role model to be sure, great artist, absolutely, but, not exactly a pillar of society either. I love Waynes movies, and believe he simply did what he thought was best, to support the US, its Armed Forces, and its leaders.. Hollywood leaned hard left then, it leans much harder left now.. I still applaud Waynes life and films.. its easy to cast aspersions on people long gone, from a time when things had not yet changed perceptions of people as they have now, 50-60 yrs later.
If I like someone's movies I don't really want to know anything about them personally. Most of them will disappoint you. I loved Jerry Lewis comedies but I can't even watch them now because of what was revealed about him. He was a terrible man. I think most celebrities were and are failures as people.
That's true yes, but I'm not talking personal lives in my dislike of John Wayne he chose to make it public, esspecially when he had to be restrained by 4 plus security when he tried to physically abuse Sacheen Littlefeather at the 1973 academy awards, this was not a one of. My comments of him being a state made star where true he was asked probably even paid to spy on artists he worked with. He was just a turkey hateful man. Most artists not celebrities, big difference tend to have sensible politics weather they lean left or right and most high level artists would lean left that is just statistically correct. Then you get Muppets like Wayne and Hestern hateful people who let the side down. The one that supprised me recently was not for necessarily for there political lean(was still a surprise) but his active support of Trump means i cant watch Frasier any more with out feeling sick 🤢.......
How ironic that John Lennon believed Wayne's movies were violent I guess his memory slipped when he was physically abusive to some women in his life. Hypocrite!
Has there ever been a person alive or dead that isn't full of hypocritical impulses? I revere both Wayne & Lennon for their creative work but pity anyone who is looking for pious nobility in celebrities or non celebrities...
Then Lennon dies not long after being hateful to Wayne…reaping and sowing. Lennon was a communist and thick headed. We lost America to the “peace” no they didn’t have peace those hippies were violent and hateful! Pretty much 1967 onward has been the downward spiral of America and Lennon being a founding woker

I understand that Robert Ryan (a staunch Democrat) and Duke had more than a few dust-ups over politics on the sets of the movies in which they were co-stars. Kirk Douglas was another co-star that didn't see eye to eye with him on political matters. Doubtful their differences resulted in "hate" in either case.
They didn't. Ryan was a very private and quiet man. Ernest Borgnine made a few movies with him and admired him but said he was tough to get to know. He was a big liberal and Wayne a big conservative. They may or may not have had an issue or two but they co-starred in 2 movies. Kirk Douglas and Wayne enjoyed a very friendly relationship but were not close friends. That said, Kirk did send a nice telegram to Wayne when he went back in the hospital around 1978 or so. They respected each other and did have very good chemistry in their 3 films.
Roscoe Brown said Wayne would talk to you about your differences, but he respected peoples opinions. Same with Rock Hudson, who thought Wayne was going to get him fired off the Undefeated. All Wayne did was ask him if he was a good chess player. Most say Wayne was just a figure head for the anti-communism movement in Hollywood…the real leader was Ward Bond.
@@FactsVerse Whether or not the alleged things that John Wayne may have said or not shouldn't minimize that type of Actor that he was. It take exception that many of his critics (notably Spike Lee) never met him. In regards to your question about the type of movies that I like, I very much love Sci-Fi and Docudramas. One of my favorite Docudramas is "The Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance." I also like the movie, "The Enemy Below."
So let me get this right - Katharine Hepburn and Frank Sinatra both had problems with Wayne over politics in the 1950s, but came to mutual respect and affection later. Spike Lee and John Lennon - who can barely have known the man - didn’t like what (little) they knew of him. And Clark Gable didn’t want to play Davy Crockett because it was Wayne’s directorial debut. Hardly “hated John Wayne” is it? And while Wayne might be controversial- surely no one disagrees he was a fine actor in his genre and willing to take on controversial roles - like Ethan Edwards in the Searchers.
Anyone can know Wayne through his outspoken vile racism. He openly stated black people don’t deserve rights. They didn’t have to know him personally to find that disgusting.
Spike Lee says John Wayne depicted native Americans as savages, but, did spike Lee ever listen to the closing lines of John Wayne? He always said, their losing their way of life, and it's a good way. People always hear what they wanna hear. John Wayne may have had haters, but I for one will always revere John Wayne. For his acting, and his strength of character. They don't make'em like that anymore. 🌹
Mr. Wayne was a Silver Screen Icon. Again his views, political beliefs may be adverse, diverse, discriminate but he, like all Americans are protected by the Constitution. The right to choose, believe, speak no matter how abrupt or misunderstood!
John Lennon has something of a big mouth by making cavalier statements to draw attention to himself. Many of them were a bit self-centered. His most famous statement was in saying that The Beatles were more popular than Jesus Christ! That was an unfortunate and imprudent remark, if not a but egotistical. As for his remarks about John Wayne, there are two issues. First of all, John Wayne a part of American Culture and was essentially a fantasy figure. Aside from certain controversies, he was a respected actor in the American Motion Picture industry. Lennon, who was from England failed to view Wayne's films within context, and also failed to see the bigger picture. While he had the choice not to watch Wayne's films or expose his son to them, his making public remarks in the way he did was a problem. He could be rather curt, which is said to have contributed to the tensions that broke up the Beatles. It might also be said that his callous remarks, made essentially for publicity may have contributed to his being shot. When one is in the position of celebrity, it is best to appreciate being in that position and try to avoid making harsh critical remarks about peers regardless of whether there is a disagreement about political viewpoints.
John Wayne was a good actor who accomplished a lot successful movies. The Duke is a True Hero. I love his work. Like him or not, He was always straight to point when he talk. Nothing but Respect for John!
Mr. Johnson for true heroes who also made movies I ask you to consider Jimmy Stewart and Audie Murphy. Stewart served during WWII in the Army Air Corps. Flying 20 combat missions over Germany. He served with distinction and received several medals. I don't feel the need to say anything about Murphy. Our country's most decorated soldier.

So he did his part as an actor entertaining the troops with movies, and live performances, visiting the wounded, and radio bits. He did his part and is a homefront hero.
@@spokanetomcat1 John Wayne was not too old to enlist or be drafted into the military. He asked for and received a 3A draft deferment. Men who were too old to enlist or be drafted into military service did not need to ask for a 3A draft deferment. Because they were too old to enlist or be drafted. An interesting side note. At a later date Mr. Wayne was reclassified as 1A. Meaning he was fit for military service.

I'd say that it was beneficial for Sinatra NOT to have gotten in a "physical altercation" with The Duke! As it is, he lived a long, healthy life for years after what would have been a life-threatening situation!
Lee Marvin once told a story about him and the Duke drinking and arguing about how hard John could punch, they were in a hotel room during the filming of a movie and Lee said he went in the bathroom closed the door and stood in front of the door just inches away while John punched the the door! John put his fist through the door and when he opened the door Lee was on the floor out cold! The Rat Pack would have been minus 1 Rat!
Sean Lennon was born in 1975. There is no way that he was referred to during the 1969 bed and in Montreal. They were probably referring to John’s son Julian so you made a huge mistake there.
I love to see the trash talking, backstabbing & arrogance of those that LOVE TO HATE the Man himself ! The Duke - a man that just did what he did in the same way .... never an unkind word from those that KNEW HIM, WORKED with Him and were professionals who saw what he was Personally and KNEW HE SPOKE HIS MIND, Loved America, would not tolerate those that put it down, ducked out of supporting it and said so often ... I loved that about him. As a fan - I never met Him but, saw all his movies and own DVDs with his work .... John Houston, Maureen O'Hara & many loved working with him. Talk is cheap.... so are those that smear a man AFTER ALL THIS TIME makes it worse than those BACK IN THE DAY .... this "Grandson" has no knowledge of what went on .... just running his mouth. Sad. jj

Absolutely, we feel the same way! Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. Which film of John is the most memorable for you?
Awesome glad you feel the same way happy to be sharing my thoughts and opinions with you my pleasure buddy love me some John Wayne mclintock is very memorable for me man
Duke was an overall good man with good intentions, who was raised in a wholesome conservative midwest home with conservative ideals. He was in his prime in the 1930s and followed suit with the interests of our country at a time when international tensions were tight and Nazi Germany was spreading propaganda like a wildfire. If John Wayne had been born in the 50s, his rhetoric would have been a lot different. His messages to America had good intentions and his movies tell fun stories. I'm a centrist Democrat who leans very slightly left of moderate. I believe in a socially organized system of taking care of those less fortunate with foundations that provide aid as nothing more than a starter kit toward self sustained living. If they fumble and fall off track they get one more chance, after that, figure it out yourself. When it comes to race, I'm color blind. When it comes to social injustice and racial persecution, I am appalled. Grow up and learn acceptance. You would be amazed at who could become your best friend.
Mr. Fact Check says: Hepburn didn't turn down a role in a John Wayne film. The film in question was 1953's "Hondo." The female role in the script her agent read was small, small enough that he didn't bother mentioning it to Hepburn. Ironically, the role was eventually expanded and offered to Geraldine Fitzgerald. She accepted the part. It established her reputation in the film industry. I'd like more, but we're burning daylight, pilgrim. 🤠
I addition, I have never seen or read anything about Katharine Hepburn disliking John Wayne's behavior on the set of the movie they made together. Both actors objected to the directing and voiced their opinions loud and clear. Although I like the movie, I have to agree that the directing left it a flawed film. Wayne and Hepburn with their combined, maybe 100 years in the movie business were right.
i never heard of Geraldine Fitzgerald, and i was a movie fan back in the days when it was the biggest form of entertainment for a long time. i don't think that movie is that big either, Hondo? i was a little kid and my mom restricted me from seeing a lot of movies, but i don't even remember hearing of that one.
I was a fan of John Wayne from a young age. But i realized he was a celebrated actor because he gradually became the roles he played. He wasn’t an especially skilled actor. Later i realized he was a bigoted, small minded, xenophobic, and stupidly worked to blacklist anyone who didn’t fit his view of patriotism. But perhaps he is best seen as a mirror of many of the people of his time. This video portrays the people who disliked JW in a superficial way. But I feel sorry he caught cancer and ironically got it from filming close to a nuclear test area from which half of the cast eventually got cancer. And he was perfect for the role in True Grit and deserved an Oscar for that.
@@eddriver7815 Wayne did not send anyone, anywhere, bad politicians did, Nixon gave not Vietnam, 11 billion to have peace with honor, I did not agree with the Vietnam war and or Korea, if u go to war, go to win
@@stevecampbell6294 It is speculated that John Wayne did not serve in World War II because he was classified as “3-A” when he did his part in registering with Selective Service. “3-A” is one of the classifications that allowed the registrant to defer service. Its official name is “Hardship Deferment.” It applies to registrants whose commitment to service can burden (cause hardship for) their families. John Wayne was considered one of these "3-A" registrants because he had a wife and 4 kids to provide for. "2-A” is another classification with grounds for deferment. Republic Pictures, when Wayne was eligible to enlist, filed a “2-A” deferment to keep him in their studio. After his “Stagecoach” role, Wayne was the only A-list actor at Republic Pictures. So, it was no surprise that they did not want to ‘“lose” him to the war. As an actor, Wayne qualified as a “2-A” registrant in a non-agricultural occupation. Displaced paperwork is another possible reason why John Wayne did not serve in World War II. It was believed that the required papers for his enlistment were processed but mistakenly sent to his ex-wife’s house and not his. Thus, he never knew about it. Some sources claimed that she neglected it, while some contended that she withheld it intentionally because she and the children were still relying on Wayne’s star power to live comfortably.
John was a true patriot! We need him today. Sadly, the Commies have taken over just about all areas of our great country. Of course John Lennon hated Wayne- he was a threat to Lennon’s Commy beliefs. God bless John Wayne and all he stood for!👍🇺🇸❤️
You can judge a man by his enemies. Josef Stalin planned on having John Wayne assassinated. (Later, Soviet leader Nikkita Khruschev tore up the order.) Spike Lee apparently hated John Wayne as well. I would say that makes me respect John Wayne even more.
For me the best western figure of all time was James Arness as Matt Dillon or Ward Bond on wagon train. Did anyone know in real life Ward Bond and John Wayne was hunting and Wayne accidentally shot bond in the butt with a shotgun he borrowed from bond. LOL. When Bond died he left the shotgun to Wayne.
Spike Lee’s and John Lennon’s critique was unwarranted as Wayne neither wrote, produced or directed any of the westerns (with the exception of The Alamo) that he stared in. He was merely the paint that others placed on a canvas.
No can of Spike Lee by any means. I agree our past shouldn't be tossed out simply because attitudes change - I wish more could recall this simple lesson.
@@wunderkind-7724 Replying to the overall criticism of John Wayne ideation - in the body of his work. Actually did not like him as an actor and was not applying literary or artistic criticism but am critical about his attitudes on the subjects of his work which were appalling. ie Birth of a Nation so applauded and was shown in the Wilson White House. That movie was so disgustingly racist, would turn one's stomach. Not only said something about the film maker but also about Woodrow Wilson. (it was not a commentary on racism it was racist) Felt like the KKK made it and everybody cheered.
John Wayne was a Patriotic American. He did not brook any nonsense. He was eager to bring along at least a dozen other classic actors and film workers. He made sure they got work because they had helped make his career.
Christine, oh you all soooooo Goddamn tiresome fawning and wrapping your ass up the American flag....so infested with stars and stripes that you shit red white and blue.....most people l know have little respect for hateful, sexist, racist old white people who think there better than others just because they are White!!!!! True....Let's face it. Few of Hollywood's "stars" today have an original thought in their tiny minds....it's all a facade.... pretending to be a leftist and somehow in tune with the community at large...mostly millennials and wokists....who are merely sheep trying to emulate their heroes.... the lemmings.
The first group of Hollywood stars who joined the military (during WW2) were guaranteed high ranking positions, later when John Wayne inquired they offered him pvt. first class, start at the bottom. He reasonably declined and did more good stateside selling war bonds, commercials, supporting efforts etc..
I have mixed feelings about John Wayne which I'll keep private. As for John Lennon, he was IMHO sadly mistaken. John Wayne was a chain smoker, a heavy drinker, and did not have the healthiest diet. Also in the film industry, you work sporadic and long hours which affects people differently. It has been suggested that when John Wayne was filming in the 1950s and 1960s that while on location in the Mountain West radiation from nuclear explosions may have harmed him.
It's known that John Wayne had Lung Cancer and was a heavy Smoker and when the Doctor told him he needed to have a part of his lung Removed and to stop Smoking or he'll probably die from the Lung Cancer, he didn't listen and kept Smoking cigarettes !!! So i seriously doubt it was from Radiation at a filming sight . Maybe if he listened to the Doctor's warnings he would have lived much longer. Sad,People got so addicted to Smoking Cigarettes and couldn't stop.
You need to look at the time that he grew up. Do we get rid of our history because we disagree with it. I have always been a John Wayne fan and always will be
Wasn't a fan of his movies namely western but I still have much respect for the man. John Wayne did say stuff that would be pretty controversial these days. I don't think he was a racist. As you said he was a product of the times he grew up in. Problem today is that people like Spike Lee who bash John Wayne do so unfairly because the man is now dead and can't defend himself and Spike Lee likely never met John Wayne when he was aliive. Secondly we're currently living in a time where people look for things and words to get offended about.
Very good points. Unfortunately, too many members of the younger crowd like to judge people and events of the past by today's notions of good and bad, and right and wrong.
John Wayne became a living legend! And remains "legendary" I have read quite a few books about John Wayne and he was a real stand up guy and a real decent human being. Most who actually knew him loved him.
@@FactsVerse Oh there's more than one "The Searchers" "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" "Rio Bravo" "True Grit" Hard to pick just one. And Native Americans were always portrayed with dignity in most of John Wayne's cowboy movies.
@Frederick Wells One that comes to mind is "Fort Apache" and there was more than one and what I actually said was that Native Americans were treated with dignity and respect in his movies and they were.
Unfair to judge The Duke using “revisionist theories “. Judge the man in the context of THE TIME HE LIVED IN -and what kind of values he was raised in. 1930’s Great Depression. WW II era and Eisenhower 1950’s! duh!?
Was John Wayne perfect? No. but neither was any of those being so critical of him. Especially John Lennon, who was far from perfect himself. He treated his son Julian like trash.
I always kind of liked John Wayne films and I don't find him offensive, however my late father who was in WW2 and Korea and won some kinda metals. He hated John Wayne said he was a fake that promoted what he never would had balls to do, such as serve on a war front. I however just see him as a decent actor, who had some human flaws as we all do in someones opinion.
john wayne was labelled 4-f due to a college football injury which is ,by the way the reason he went into acting when he lost his free ride at school due to this knee injury
Take a pick! Which would you rather have on your side, someone like John Wayne who supported the military or someone like "Hanoi Jane Fonda" who went to visit Viet Nam prisoners and when they tried to slip info. to her to take back home, she went straight to their captors and gave them the info she had just received. I will not watch ANYTHING involving Jane Fonda just on that one principle.
@@rolandemartin854 I agree but I on the same principal have to add numerous peoples, as I considered it a war crime to send those men in the first place. Living with a father scarred psychologically by war, realizing that we live in a empire that is constantly involved in war crimes from it's founding I wont even vote. Cause I know and expect each person is going to do war crimes for empire. I wouldn't have done what Jane Fonda did that was evil to go in the first place,. Now I'm not going to on the same principle salute a flag of or praise this empire, seeing no plausible denial as it's murdered looted and betrayed humanity in the score of millions if not billions of souls men women and children. In closing I only ask is your condemnation and moral indignation consistent or is it as with it is most Americans, selective unequal and blinded by nationalistic tendencies which refuse to inspect itself?
No one is perfect and I have noticed that today everyone criticizes anyone from the past. Today's stars are really bad. At least the golden age stars had class.
Disagreeing isn’t the same as hating. Frank Sinatra became more conservative in his later years. I certainly don’t agree with everything John Wayne ever said, but he could eat John Lennon and Spike Lee for breakfast.
I think the most telling thing about John Wayne as a human is this. The man skipped out on possibly the most justified war in the past 100 years while being a war hawk for the most pointless wars like Vietnam. Dude was a beta cuck.
The celebrities who supposedly "hated" John Wayne really didn't hate him, they just disliked some of his behavior or some of the characters he played. Later on some of them did a 180.
Since when is "speaking your mind" a bad thing?? Everyone has that right If people didn't like what Wayne had to say, oh well Then ignore it & walk away
You left out a lot. First, many of the actors mentioned were also competing for box office positions. Wayne was not regarded as a great actor at the time but he was more often than not the #1 box office star. They hated it. Gable vied for that position also & was #1 box office for a time. In the film industry money & availability is always sticky points. If Gable worked for another film company (and he did), he could hardly just make a John Wayne film by a competing studio. Many of these stars were still locked into the studio system. You had to pay a lot of money to get a star from RKO to MGM or Columbia to Fox, etc. "The Alamo" wasn't an accurate retelling (what film is? Certainly not "Bonnie & Clyde") but Wayne made it for $12 million & at that box office, it made $20 million. Almost an all-star picture so some big-name actors did like him. John Wayne wasn't always in the position of casting a film either. That's why they have casting directors. He may get the approval of the co-star but he didn't always select them. If he did Ed Asner wouldn't have been in a film with him, and neither would Richard Widmark. There are actors who didn't want to star in a film with Wayne because their names would be below his. Oh, yeah. That was a sticky point with Barbra Streisand when she wanted Elvis to be in her version of "A Star Is Born." Colonel Parker said Elvis' name is top-billing. She even asked why -- it's her film? He said she wanted Elvis' name to guarantee the box office. And it would. Elvis' name would've sold the movie. She reneged & got Kristofferson. Yes, there were personality conflicts too. Burt Lancaster didn't want to work with John Wayne simply because Wayne was Conservative. But that didn't explain why dear Burt starred opposite Gary Cooper (who was also Conservative). Oops. Montgomery Clift & John Wayne didn't get along but they made a film together. James Caan & Ed Asner didn't get along with Wayne but they knew they stood to make lots of money & a great deal of exposure in a Wayne film. Lee Marvin was a liberal & he made 3 films with Wayne. That Communist blacklisting stuff. Wayne didn't start that. Back in the 50s (after WWII) that was a pretty scary situation. Extended to authors & musicians too. Today we think it was some kind of racism. It wasn't. Whites were included. I don't blame John Wayne for being on the side of the black listing...he was patriotic. But personally, I just didn't like how those committees went about it. Not everyone accused was indeed a Communist & many who were didn't even know how incriminating that was if you admitted it. Lucille Ball was one. Screenwriter Dalton Trumbo. Now we see these people as heroes -- really? Lucille I think wasn't aware of the implications. Trumbo? I'm not so sure. But we watched her show anyway & his films (when they used his scripts or doctored his name). Lots of Hollywood types are self-centered hypocrites. Big egos. Hepburn's career was on the wane so starring with John Wayne in the follow-up to True Grit would put her back on the map. And to a degree, it did. She realized that Wayne wasn't such a bad guy after all but he was tough & she wanted to make a rough-and-tumble picture. After all, it's his name going on the marquee to sell that picture. I'd be tough too. John Wayne's beliefs may have been a little "racist" but at that time lots of people thought the way he did. Doesn't excuse it but everyone has a certain amount of "ignorance" on certain subjects. Many people today are anti-trans. Still a prejudice about something they don't understand. It still exists. Maybe they're wrong but that's how they feel. But Wayne never did anything that showed he was a cruel racist bastard. He had Woody Strode start opposite him in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," & that gave John Ford the insight to star Strode in his own picture "Sergeant Rutledge" with Wayne's blessing. No one talks about that right Spike Lee? John Lennon? I liked John as a musician but do you really think John Wayne cared what John Lennon thought of him? I doubt it. Lennon was quite ignorant about many topics. Lennon got Wayne's death wrong. Wayne died of cancer he probably contracted initially out in Nevada while filming The Conquerer. How do I know that? Almost every actor & worker on that film set died of cancer within just a few years. Wayne lost a lung a few years after this film. Wayne understood that there would always be a cost for freedom. Something Lennon didn't understand. Lennon never figured on terrorists. We're still at war & it's not because of men like Wayne. As for John Wayne films -- you never saw him rape a woman, use inflammatory language, brutalize anyone & he was patriotic. That can't be denied. As usual, today we're judging people of another time, era & generation. Different mindsets. We have no right to do that. 100 years from now that new generation will judge us for what we say & do today. And we're no angels.
'..a little racist' - WTF??? He hated Blacks, Jews, Latinos, and especially Native Americans. Wayne felt no empathy for Native Americans, and when pressed for his views, he replied in a Playboy Interview, “I don’t feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them, if that’s what you’re asking. Our so-called stealing of this country from them was just a matter of survival. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.” And HUAC? He was a quisling who gave up anyone he didn't like. Ball and Trumbo were heroes. Wayne was a POS. Fvck Marion.

The public knows that Hollywood was filled with left of left leaning characters. Communism was big back then and is making a resurgence today. If you watch some old movies the themes are left leaning, preachy sort of genre’s. It is also obvious that many in Hollywood were not very educated. Furthermore, left of center ideas appeal to a vacuous mindset. John Wayne was a true American Patriot and one of the best actors Hollywood has ever seen! He was a role model for me growing up, He was not a racist, he treated all people with respect.
Wayne, who was called Duke, made some classic movies with John Ford and Howard Hawks and others. Ford's movies usually treated indians with respect. He was very aware of their tragic destiny. I read this in 2004 Wayne, John. Conservative; sometimes showed a refreshingly modest outlook & sense of humor, though. Alcoholic. Reported crossdresser. Had a weak spot for Latinas. Racist. Draft dodger during WW2. Got fooled by Christine Jorgensen (look it up, kids), hit on her, and nearly went on a date with her. Linked with Joan Crawford, Marlene Dietrich, Paulette Goddard, and Carmen Miranda.
I lost track of the number of stupid, ignorant comments you made. "Reported crossdresser", do you have first hand knowledge of that? Draft dodger? BS, got a deferment since he was married with 4 kids. Alcoholic? Heavy drinker, zero evidence he was an alcoholic. Kirk Douglas said he was always first on the set, last to leave. Amazing how much BS one person can spew.
John Wayne is and always will be and always has been my favorite actor. I don’t give a damn what the haters think. Never have never will. The norms of yesterday or not the norms of today and no one should be judged on them. At the end of the day I don’t care what anyone else thinks his movies are still heads and tails above anything made today, I have no respect for today’s actors. And will watch 99% of the films made today. I’ll take the guys like Jimmy Stewart John Wayne Cary Grant and all the classic actors in the day of the week over the clowns the claim to be actors today they’re nothing but a bunch of Roy did up buffoons who were too busy trying to tell me how I should think
Wayne was a racist and misogynist - James Stewart was a rabid racist and had a lot of rage which was covered up. Recently read about Stewart and never again will watch one of his films - to hold ugly beliefs and act on them (vis a vis a color of a person's skin) should be known. If you want to give money to people who hate and use their influence re. such - go for it. I don't hate celebrities but do not want to support those who have hateful views.
@@Nimgimmer1492 The pols cite Wayne's professed support of white supremacy in a 1971 Playboy interview, in which he espoused derogatory views of African Americans, Native Americans and movies with gay characters. Much more ... that is all I'll comment on. Re. Jimmy Stewart look it up;.Slavery was applauded in the past - people who have racist views - yes, many years ago since they died - but racism still exists and characters who either denied such or looked the other way or championed white supremacy should be known - it's call history. ie for example Charles Lindberg, a hero, actually did one thing - his positive views about the Nazis lingers on.

Yep, this was back in the day when people got along despite their differences.
Roscoe Brown said Wayne would talk to you about your differences, but he respected peoples opinions. Same with Rock Hudson, who thought Wayne was going to get him fired off the Undefeated.

Reviled by Spike Lee? Disliked by John Lennon? I wouldn't worry too much about that.......... I thought this might be something to take seriously.

I addition, I have never seen or read anything about Katharine Hepburn disliking John Wayne's behavior on the set of the movie they made together. Draft dodger in WW2

John Wayne is an American legend!
My favorite John Wayne movie is the searchers with Natalie Wood. From Ms. Harper Stacey.

He was an actor.they aren't heroes....
Not to me he's not screw him!
Indeed he is. It's a bit late for them trying to cancel him now. Lol
It’s easy to talk about people when they are dead and can not defend themselves
Yeah yeah yeah
John Lennon was kind of a hipocrit for hated the Duke. He was mean to his wife and son. I love both John's, but Lennon wasn't a peaceful person.
John Lennon was a terrible man. A hypocrite.
Now we know John Wayne may have been right.
Unfair to judge The Duke using “revisionist theories “. Judge the man in the context of THE TIME HE LIVED IN -and what kind of values he was raised in. 1930’s Great Depression. WW II era and Eisenhower 1950’s! duh!?
I always enjoyed John Wayne movies including "The Alamo"!
We're happy to know that you love John! Also, thanks for sharing your favorite film of his. What other types of video would you like to see?
I personally never cared for any of the anti-Wayne people mentioned here especially Hepburn.
Was John Wayne perfect? No. but neither was any of those being so critical of him. Especially John Lennon, who was far from perfect himself. He treated his son Julian like trash.
Correct 😊is
John Wayne was and still is a real movie star these clowns now days won’t ever be as good an actor as him
Huge Duke fan, Huge Chairman of the Board fan. RIP to them both.
I wonder what those stars would have thought about the movie "Forest Gump"?
It would be devastating for John Lennon and spike lee not to like you

I always kind of liked John Wayne films and I don't find him offensive, however my late father who was in WW2 and Korea and won some kinda metals. He hated John Wayne said he was a fake that promoted what he never would had balls to do, such as serve on a war front. I however just see him as a decent actor, who had some human flaws as we all do in someones opinion.

That's NONSENSE both Spike Lee and John Lennon are GLOBAL ICONS ,John Wayne is mere 50s american grade B actor.
Definitely not in talent! Lennon crushes wayne into a fine powder!!
I don't know anything about Spike Lee. But, he comes across as very opinionated.
How many people hate him?
This list of people gives me motivation to like John Wayne all the more 😁
I think the most telling thing about John Wayne as a human is this.
You're absolutely correct!
There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.”
And HUAC? He was a quisling who gave up anyone he didn't like.
Ball and Trumbo were heroes. Wayne was a POS.

John Wayne is America
Glad to know that you're a fan of John. In your opinion, what is his finest film?
Racist, sexist.
Yes, Wayne was part of the group that outed these America Haters but I think they asked for what they got by making their opinions public. We all live with the consequences of our actions. I’m just say’n.
Love the Duke RIP John

Wayne, who was called Duke, made some classic movies with John Ford and Howard Hawks and others. Ford's movies usually treated indians with respect. He was very aware of their tragic destiny. Frank was in bed with the JFK and when JFK refused to let Sammy Davis Jr. perform at the white house Frank didn't stand up for Sammy he agreed with JFK. So, who was the bad guy Frank or John?
Via JFKs brother- In- law Peter Lawford, Sinatra's rat pack assisted JFKs election win, all were invited initially to the White House victory party but Sammy Davis, who did a lot to get JFK the black vote, had his invitation withdrawn, partly because he was married to a white Swede May Britt, the only member of the rat pack that supported Sammy by refusing the invitation was Dean Martin.

Wayne, John.
