  • Welcome Gardeners, today I will show you how to protect your seeds and seedlings from cats. Every time they use my flower beds to "relieve" themselves they always scratch the dirt which interferes with seed germination and also uproots new seedlings. NO MORE!!! I came up with a great idea using old nursery pots to protect my seeds and seedlings so they get the chance to germinate, grow and become beautiful flowers! I hope you find this Garden video FUN and Helpful.😊 Liz

There's a poem about that---Four seeds in a row, one for the rook, one for the crow, one to die, and one to grow. Happy day, Liz! 🌱🌱🌱

I agree with you Panagiotaskoylida that cats are a problem, but I love animals more than anything so we just have to compromise right? Thank you for your encouragement. I always enjoy reading your comments.🥰❤️👍Liz

Lk25 Hi Liz. This is a great idea to use the plastic containers. I have tons of them. I can’t let them go. 🤣🤣🤣 I have become a plant pot hoarder. I have a new raised bed and this will work for some of the seeds. Three seeds is a good number. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👏👏👏

That's a great idea, Liz. I was blessed with seedling success this year - never have I had literally everything come up. One can never have enough zinnias, cosmos, salvias and dahlias. One of my dahlias turned out to be a real beauty this year - a lovely surprise. Have you ever sowed a pot and because nothing came up you forgot and added different seeds on top - ha!:) It all came up and now I have no idea what it is:). Discovered new basils that do just fine in our heat and humidity-awesome scents and flavor from citrus to clove to spicy/ peppery. I was surprised to see that they are thriving. Perfect for cooking and lemonade. I have the same white Crepe Myrtle, the old fashioned kind, it gets very tall but it is absolutely perfect for shading the potager during the summer heat. HAPPY GARDENING! Always a pleasure to see one of your videos.

Oh my goodness Rose I am so happy for you that everything you planted came up. Isn’t it just awesome when we are blessed that way. I am so in love with my white crêpe myrtle tree and I can’t wait for it to get big and tall like yours. I wish I could see your garden. Oh my gosh, she has so many times I plant things in pots and forget what I planted and when they come up, I am delightfully surprised. Too funny that happened to me all the time. I would enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with you for sure. Thanks for sharing your Garden journey with me as well. I love to hear what you are doing in your garden. 🥰❤️👍Liz

Good morning Barbara I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Oh wow, I had no idea that this could keep out roly-poly’s as well, I don’t get too many of those. I wonder how this would work for slugs? I guess I will soon find out. I hope you’re having a beautiful day. Stay cool my friend.👍❤️🥰

Great tip! I have 2 cats that have decided my yard is the place to be and have adopted me.Being the sucker that I am, I started leaving water for them and feeding them so I know they will probably never leave. They are doing the same thing to my potted plants so I will have to try something like this. One is an orange cat and one is a dark cat. I named them Betty and Wilma from the flintstones haha. Thanks for sharing ❤

Oh my gosh, Ginger I did the same thing. I left food and water out for the cats. Love the names you picked. You could always sprinkle citrus oil around your potted plants. I’m told that cats hate lemon and orange.😆😆😆Liz
