I'm deaf and even though it was probably unintended, they promoted inncorrct signs for both asl and bsl. I think they should let the people that are well educated in asl/bsl post informative videos for educational purposes.

BSL is British sign language and asl is auslan or American Sign Language I think-
If you want to learn ASL, I good place would be Take Lessons. It’s super helpful for beginners and teaches it fast and easy! :)

As a deaf person and an ASL teacher for 13 years, this is wildly inaccurate, and a disservice to our community. I am saddened at the disregard for our culture, and at the lack of response from the channel to take this down as a sign of respect and re-do it accurately with a Deaf person.

Take this video down. You are spreading misinformation. I can't believe it's still up after two days, when I've seen thousands of comments from Deaf people and fluent signers, British AND American, telling you how wrong this all is! Really disappointed.

As a CODA (someone who grew up with deaf parents, and is a native ASL speaker), this video disgusts me.
What makes me laugh/cringe the most is the description. “All you need this!” Not this, we don’t.
I am trying to learn sign language, do you think you could tell me which of her signs are wrong? Unfortunately, I don't have any classes available in it where I live, so I have to rely on the internet, but most of the videos I have gone to on ASL have comments (like this one) saying that the signs are all wrong.

Reylin i recommend the youtube channel Signed With Heart, she teaches CORRECT asl signs and she shows side views of them and slowed down editions as well to make it easier to learn. hope it helps and good luck signing!

Please take this down. Many of your signs are incorrect. Historically there has been friction between the Deaf and hearing community because hearing people have been rude and disrespectful and oppressed the Deaf.
Your video is miss informing people who are genuinely trying to learn to sign. I am a hearing person with Deaf friends. We want to be able to communicate effectively. But some in the Deaf community would be against me learning because they are afraid of their culture and language being defiled and lost. Videos like this make me see their fears are not as un founded as I had first imagined.
Maybe you meant well but many are telling you this video is harmful. Now please listen to them and take it down.

@@lelia408 most of what she signed was wrong. If you want to learn ASL that's great but the 5 minute hack people are not who you want to learn from. You need to search for channels ran by people who are actually fluent in ASL or you could look for online classes or classes where you live. I think most will say it's best to learn from a deaf person but there are people who aren't deaf that use ASL to communicate as well. My 6 year old son has severe stage 3 autism and is 100% nonverbal. He has never said a single word in his 6 yrs of life which has made communication with him very difficult. He has rejected most alternative ways of communicating until recently. We've been trying to teach him sign language and he's actually starting to use it. We got lucky that my fiance learned ASL when he was growing up because he had a close friend that is deaf so he's been able to teach our son some of the stuff he remembered learning from his friend. Learning to sign is a wonderful thing but you wanna make sure that you learn how to do it the correct way. Signing incorrectly can be very disrespectful.
Do yourself a favor and take this down. It's inaccurate and already has (and will continue to) make a lot of people upset.

I didn't look at the comments before I started memorizing, but I'm glad I saw some other videos before this. I thought something was fishy when the "mother" sign was different from what I've seen.

Well, I noticed some that were right, at least on the ASL side. I don’t speak BSL, but I assume a lot of them were wrong.

As a kid I had what we would call selective mutism, I was not very vulnerable back than. But now here I am talking, reading, and so much more. In a certain kind of way it’s great to learn sign language because if you have a friend that has this or Evan deaf you can ask someone to help ya out with it.
I thought ASL and BSL stood for Advanced sign language and Basic sign language. Glad to know better and really interested to learn sign language

I am stilll learning all I can & have used what you sign here & more with some deaf friends also able to talk to the deaf that come around & sell stuff . It is a awesome feeling to watch others sign,others learning to sign. Me ,I love being able to interpret for others who don't know sign-up wanna talk to these people. As someone who is not fluent in ASL, I'm not aware of which signs are right/wrong. I have seen a few of these signs before in different videos, signed the same. If someone fluent could tell me which signs are correct, it would be much appreciated so that I can learn the correct signs.

Wow.. thanks, I was like really trying to store these. I wanna major in it at university because I am in the special education program.. and thought that I'd get a head start in understanding. They need to take it down and not let others learn this.
Are you kidding me? Not only have you switched several signs from ASL to BSL and vice versa, but you also have the "signer" signing a lot of those signs incorrectly. Also, the signer is cleaely neither deaf nor fluent. Take this video down, apologize to the Deaf people of America, Canada, England, and everywhere else. Stick to crafts.
I'm deaf, I know that's so not asl because it's not asl and different sign language or some old sign language. You need need real deaf than video or website.
One big disservice to signing is after how long its been around, it's not been adopted as a true universal language in all countries. It could litteraly be a go to language for interpreters that may not know a certain language somewhere, plus if it where consolidated to the same signs internationally, it would help grow awareness for signing immensely*. I always assumed it was a universal language, but the signing differs from country to country. A universal language, and this can not be stated enough, is supremely overdue. Imagine how it could break barriers so much more quickly not to mention more easily. Sounds like a no brainer eh, but it remaines a mystery why no one has gotten this language consolidated to one basic language. Understanding is the first part in any major positive shift.
I was once into sign language when a I were younger. I am presently interested in going to a higher level with the sign language process.

I was fluent in ASL when I was a toddler (I learned because of a talking disorder) and have since lost all communication in ASL, so if someone wants to hmu and teach me again? Quick question. Does it matter if you do the signs with the left or right hand?
I am a lefty and have been learning the basics, but noticed that I use my left hand to memorize them.
Which ever is your dominant hand you use. But you can choose which one, just make sure you stay consistent and use only one hand.
I barely know sign language and even I know some of this is wrong. I'm glad there are other channels that are more accurate

I've been a big fan of 5-minute crafts till now... I'm shocked that you would do cultural appropriation and with so many mistakes... SMH. Please take this video down and let a Deaf ASL native user and a Deaf native BSL user teach the signs. This goes to show that even with basic signs, hearing non-native signers can get it wrong.

i am a beginner at asl and i have to say she had almost all of the signs wrong. if anyone is trying to learn American sign language, i recommend the channel Signed With Heart and not this channel. she has side views of the sighs and slowed downs movements for signs to make it easier to learn. Please use that instead of learning the nonsense in this video.
I can't know the accuracy of languages used in countries outside of the USA, but for people saying that the ASL was completely inaccurate are wrong. There are "dialects" across the country. I have seen truly deaf people teaching the same signs as shown in this video as well as some variousness.

This is terrible! As a CODA I’m super disgusted that you couldn’t bother to check if your signs were correct. Some people are trying to learn and I’ve literally had people come up to me and by gf (who is deaf) and try signing, but their ASL is terrible and impossible to understand, probably because they learned it from you guys...
