My great grandmother was 26 years old when Emmett Till was murdered. Today she is 98 years old and when I found out about this story at 18 years old back in 2003 I’m wondering why I didn’t call and get her perspective on it. I’ve had many family members live into their 90’s and didn’t make the most out of getting history through their eyes. These stories are so important. While I do care about abortions and take it beyond seriously, even if you outlaw it, you cannot stop abortions. You cannot stop gay couples being together ( and technically cannot marry as marriage is what is in the eyes of the Lord ), and while you cannot stop bigotry, you sure can make it illegal to act it out. People say Romney cannot bring back slavery, but who can stop a Repub from doing anything they want.
Now the higher uppers opened the door for him to rerun, Trump while they wanted to oust Clinton for perjury over something not even our bees ( adultry?) Clinton still focused on the job and tried his honest best, but what Trump did is very much our bees and actually did hurt the country!
It is as people borderline idolize oe do idolize Trump, like people with Hitler back in his day!

I believe the part this woman played in E. Till’s death still weighs on her to this day. I believe her conscience is racked with guilt and the Lord has allowed her to live this long for that reason. Even though she didn’t put a hand on Emmett, she is as responsible for his death as the men who tortured and murdered him. This woman has been given ample time to go to her creator and plead for forgiveness and I hope she has. RIP Ms. Till and Emmett.

Im taking my 11 yr old daughter to see this movie. The best way I can explain or show her how this country use to be, is for her to watch movies like this. Her and I also sat down and watched 12 yrs a slave together, (aka The story about Solomon Northup). I feel its better then me telling stories, movies of this magnitude will temporarily immerse her into the event, which I believe will be the best way of explaining.

I applaud you for making sure your daughter knows the whole truth about this country - the good and the bad. Please note these crimes and atrocities occur today too. They are not relegated to the past only. This is about White on Black crime. There are other groups that are discriminated against as well: women, people who are transgender, people who are gay, people who are not Evangelical Christians, people who are poor, people who are disabled physically and mentally, etc. Unfortunately the list is long and seems to be getting longer. It’s important that we all learn and are truthful about our country, each other and ourselves. And we all have a choice of what we will stand for and against and how we do it. It sounds as if you are helping your daughter grow up knowing and facing all these truths and learning that safety, respect, valuing and acknowledging each other should never be compromised. Thank you!

It is not my place to decide what should happen to each person who commits crimes. While I am a law abider here on earth, I beyond heavily deserve eternal prison, but yes, racism in this case, and other times, favoritism.sets Whites free.
Other times, the Good Lord decides someone is not going to jail/prison and deal with them another way.

I also feel Emmet Till’s mother gave him values and loved him so much. The woman that accused him of this is still living. There should be justice for this young man and his family. This was so wrong and I feel for his mother and family. Racism does not belong anywhere. We all need to come together as one. We are all the same in Gods eyes. There will be justice here or before the Lord! God bless you after all these years and I hope your child receives the justice he deserves.

I was a little girl... Emmett Till was funeralized at AA RAYNER FUNERAL HOME on 71st Street in Chicago. Our parents took us to the funeral to see not only as a tribute but as a learning tool for what we have now experienced in our 70s. WE SAW HIS FACE...WE SAW HIS BROKEN BODY...we cried AS CHILDREN.,.NOW IT IS TIME FOR THE YOUNG ONES TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE GAME IS. We are being innaliated and being invalidated as we speak. How sad it is that many young people are continuing to close their minds and not listen to us....

I definitely see Whoopie's point. Because to this day, I have not heard or read (anywhere) that Carolyn says she was "sorry" for what happened or offered any kind of condolences to the family or even admit responsibility for her part in Emmett's death. The only thing I have read was she did state that no matter what happened at the store that fateful day in 1955, it did not warrant what happened to Emmett. Even for just a small bit of closure, she needs to let the family, the people, the world know what her true feelings are for what happened.
