      First in order to understand these myths; you should stop the modern way of thinking! In order to do that, to be able to do that; you should know History of religions, History of humankind, Pscyhiology, Philosophy, Archeology and Antropologyin a consuderable amount!!! Pschioanalisis as well. Then try to understand these myths and compare them with modern religions but you should be open mind and looking in an objective way! Then you can see similarities in beetween and start to learn the way of thinking of ancient people! You must know the collective memory of societies in the ancient ages and how this collective memory existed and how reflected in to legends, myths! Myths are reflections of the subconciesness of the ancient humans that is acumulation of the what people experienced through ages and that is what we call collective memory of humanit...Anyways it is a deep and long subject to talk about

    I am Greek and we read these stories as children. LOL sex incest vengefulness, jealousy, putting out eyes tongues etc. I went to public school then after that three times a week Greek school reading these stories in Greek. It never upset any of us. We actually laughed at times about all the goings on of the gods and goddesses. Once a year we put on Greek Tragedy plays and laughed out heads off. Went to Greek school for years.
    I still have my books.
    We were never shielded from these myths and it did not hurt me or us and in fact, probably resulted in me being an atheist as many biblical stories are repeated in many myths virgin births, floods etc.

      I’m German, the Greek mythology and history is my favorite one. The Greeks are the cradle of western civilization. If I had a wish or time machine I would go back to the time of Odysseus.

      Children were also read all of these stories years ago at junior school in the UK, and followed by enacting them in our drama lessons. Years later I worked in schools as teaching support and never heard them read to children again.

    nicely done. but perhaps the greek gods should've been referred to by their greek instead of roman names

    • @GullibleTarget
      @GullibleTarget 6 лет назад +11

      But they are. In the same way that 'John' is the same as 'Juan'. 'Zeus' was pronounced as 'Dzay-us'. The romans added 'Pater'(Father) to make 'Zeus-pater'; zeus the father: Dzeus-pater= Jupiter.
      In modern romance languages 'God' is referred to as 'Deus', 'Dio' 'Dios' 'Dieu'...all derived from Zeus which in turn was derived from an ancient Sanskrit word meaning Father of the Skies. Which explains why like in hinduism, there is a pantheon of 'gods'/avatars in greek mythology that represent the different aspects of the One Sky God. In catholicism(a roman invention) those avatars have been replaced by saints and archangels.
