I sure do love the different aspects of the job from selecting the timber, cutting and sorting, loading and moving the timber with Kate and Alice, grading the timber, loading the truck and then transporting to the mill. Lots of memories watching you hauling logs, my Dad had a 1958 ford 2 ton flatbed that we needed cause we also hauled a lot of pulpwood to the mill, i still remember i got $2.00 a cord to cut and stack it in ricks, half cords or in a one cord rack, if i remember right a cord was 4 foot wide, 4 foot high, by 8 feet long,i used a Homolite Zip chainsaw, and a plumb double bit axe, lots of hard work for a 14 yr, old boy
Yessir my friend. That was hard work back then. Short wood Pulp wood was coming to an end about the time I came along. I saw very little of it but remember my family doing some of it. Sarha Beth, tell dad to stop for ice cream!!🤣! I remember taking a few loads like that out of the woods with the skidder blade up under the back bunk so the truck wouldn't tip over! one did get dumped, had to push the logs with the skidder to loosen the chains, very carefully, then upright the truck , and reload it! only that happened to the truck, broken mirror, and my boss got a few broken ribs! He was a funny guy, so we would say funny things to make him laugh, and he would tell us to quite it because it would hurt to laugh! We worked hard but had fun also!

Nice logs and great job of loading them...next time maybe we'll see the unloading. In WV we referred to the pulpwood or charcoal wood as "starvation sticks" Blessings.

We weren't all that far from you yesterday. We were touring a cattle farm south east of Franklin, Ky just over the Tennessee line. Really pretty country. Everyone was combining wheat and cutting hay around that area.

That was a bit nerve recking ,Zach you must be a very very experienced truck driver with such a heavy load on board.Very dangerous job so you must know your stuff.Such huge trees never see anything like this on our roads.And you weren't hanging about on the road,going down that steep hill in the field was nail biting lol.Stay well Stay safe.My goodness your daughter looks the image of you.
