  • This project was inspired by Peter Brown's "Secret Wood Wand" video (link below). I saw his video and thought it was a really cool idea and decided to try and make something similar. I recently discovered that parchment paper does not stick to epoxy resin. Armed with this new knowledge I set out to make a mold using parchment paper. The main advantage I suppose is the minimal clean up when de-molding. This could probably be done using some poster board or card stock but that would definitely stick to the resin. While I don't think my wands turned out as nice as Peter's I am still super happy with how they came out. My kids loved them so in my book that a win! Thanks for watching.

    This was a great idea that pretty much anyone with almost no tools could do. I wouldn't have ever considered this. Great job Dan.

      Thanks bro that's what I thought too. Now I just need to figure out how to stabilize wood on the cheap, messing around with epoxy has a certain allure.

    I don't know anything about Harry Potter or wands, but the bottom of that shorter one is so cool and intricate. Great job.

      I didn't either until just this last year my son started reading the books and then we started watching the movies. Before we knew it we were all in to Harry Potter.

      Thanks it really is a cool effect the camera doesn't quite capture the color variation you see in person.

    This makes me wonder if it would be possible to make a resin “gem” inside a wand and have the wand kinda “grow around it...I’m probably not describing it well

    How do you figure out how much epoxy to mix?

    • @danthemakerman
      @danthemakerman  3 года назад

      Its been a while but I probably taped off the metal tube/conduit that I use to tape up the parchment paper and filled it with water to get an idea of how much liquid I would need.
