Hey, just for thought. I put zerk fittings on my weed eater heads in place of the screws. Just a few pumps with a grease gun and it's done. Some of the newer weed eaters don't have grease plug screws but have the spot where the screw would have been. On them, I just drill em out and thread em for a zerk fitting. Never had a problem with em.

I put grease in my strimmer today and the vibration was considerably less.

What do you use to remove the build-up from the outside of the trimmer shaft housing something that easily dissolves the varnish like coating that happens from usage?

I just got a brand new pas225 from echo. I ordered this grease for when I need it.
Is it normal for the new unit to have the trimmer hub stop almost immediately after letting gas go and takes a little throttle to get it going? Thinking about opening up the gearbox to see if they forgot to grease the gear head.

Because grease expands when heated up while the machine is in use, the amount of grease should not exceed one-third the capacity of the gear box. Doing so will shoot the seals and you'll have grease oozing out from the inside and you'll have to install new seals in a specialised workshop.

What about the rest of the shaft, there`s dirt and maybe some water inside the shaft. I would remove the cable or stick as some call it and completely clean and put new grease all along the cable. I`m not a expert but doing the it right way would seem more valuable to keeping the trimmer in perfect running order.

Yes you would do that periodically as well.

Son does small summer lawn care. He brought a PAS 225 Echo. I do not see this port to open for grease.

Some of the new 225's (assume some of the attachment trimmer heads) don't have a bolt to grease as they are factory sealed units...just gave a 225 to my brother that doesn't have this...let'er rip!

Never have added grease to my echo weed eater in 8 years still running strong 💪

Except Echo deleted the grease port on my brand new SRM225 so I’m looking to drill a hole and tap it to add a Zerk fitting OR just a hole and tap it and a bolt. Planned obsolescence is the new business model for Echo and Stihl… very sad and pathetic.

@@GwinnettLawns it worked. Used Valvoline lithium multipurpose grease. My husqvarna was vibrating the head bad; inside was also empty. After ran perfect. thanks!

Use standard gear (differential) oil. 90weight, whatever. Grease is Not the correct viscosity for bevel gears. Manufactures sell it because it is less likely to leak out the bottom seal. Just open it annually and put in Some gear OIL and be done. Uses less hp to turn the head, saves gas, spins faster. (fyi, using my 30yr old, cheap ryobi head just this way, With the use of also a 10 table saw blade in it, Slamming sapplings... never a problem. Don't fall for this rube goldberg bs... if they could they'd sell you grease to grease your Grease Gun with~)
