If you can sustain that framerate in-game but the video comes out bad, try making the x264 CPU preset faster (faster will reduce recording quality because of simpler encoding, but is less demanding on the CPU, so as long as you're CPU isn't creating a bottleneck on encoding, you'll come out smooth.

I don't want to break your heart but the CPU Preset you absolutely butchered it! The lower down the better as it will then have minimal pixelation the higher it is may give you less CPU Usage but for a RUclips video who cares?

Thank you! I was using the default encoding settings and was getting bad results. Your settings eliminated most of the transition artifacts. Like when I'm scrolling through menus and the screen changes to a different background, I can see a lot of blocky artifacts. Your settings help eliminate that. CPU: AMD FX(tm)-4350 Quad-Core Processor 4.20GHz RAM: Kingston 8.00GB GPU: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series The most optimal settings I can seem to get while running at approximately 60 FPS are 480p, 30fps, CPU Preset: veryfast I list those 3 only, because those seemed to be the 3 most important factors in effecting my FPS in-game. Is there any chance you can tell me what's holding me back from higher quality videos? I was honestly a little surprised this was the best my CPU could do.
I think you may have misinterpreted my comment. I can indeed run in 720p, but I have to reduce the other settings to the point that it honestly looks of poorer quality.

Under Advanced - x264 CPU preset it's actually the other way around. The faster presets mean that OBS will spend less time encoding each frame, resulting in lower CPU usage and lower video quality. On the other hand a slower preset will yield a better video, while using more CPU time. So you should set it to a slower preset if your PC can handle it, and to faster presets if your pc is too slow. Note: OBS recommends the veryfast preset. Making the preset slower will yield better video, but will increase the CPU load a lot. If the intention is to get better video quality, then I would suggest you increase the max bitrate under encoding.

Hey Muaaz, I did all the settings you do in this video, but when I open the recording after I'm finished, the video only goes for a second then it is stuck in a certain freeze frame and I can still her audio but the video just gets stuck at around 1 second in, what could this be?
I've been trying to figure out how to make my pc game appear in my OBS program through "Game Capture" and it hasnt been working that well, it's not showing up in the preview window until I got some options checked and unchecked and I finally did get it to record the game, but when I'm not in the game and on the desktop screen, the game will not play in the preview window because apparently it's "paused". That normal for some games?

Guys, the higher you put your x264 CPU Preset the faster it will be. For example: If you have like a mid-end pc you put it on Very Fast or Super Fast. If you have a high end (i7 4xxx or i7 6xxx) then you put it on faster. Don't use CBR, because it makes the video look more smooth and uses a lot of your CPU. Basically, the more bad your cpu is the faster you put because it a more faster preset just doesn't use your cpu as much as the fast or the faster one. I hope this helped.

new rig - monitor is 3440x1440 ultra wide. when I game capture the game is stretched w/ black bars on the top and bottom, not full screen. When I put my monitor resolution into OBS and try to downscale- it gives me an error saying the resolution is too high. I want the game capture to be full screen so I can edit scene and fit it into an overlay without the wasted space of the black bars. Any help is appreciated!
I'm using the hyperx cloud headset, el gato HD (the old one), mixamp pro 2013 and obs. I did everything but when I stream on obs the audio have a lag delay. when I try to shoot on black ops 3 it doesn't shoot 30 clips to 0 straight. it shoot from 30 to 28 and stopped for few seconds then 28 to 26 and keeps going on and on. it worked before but now is acting up. Anything I missed? please help

+Joren parduyns I use my microphone on my Beats headphones but I mess with the sound in Audacity to make it sound crystal clear. If you want to get a mic then I recommend the Blue Snowball or the Blue Yeti, the Blue snowball has near the same quality as the yeti but doesnt have a mute button which i guess is an okay loss for the price! :D

for some reason when im screen recording a 60 fps video, the end result is very choppy and laggy. Any fix to this?
If your game, app, etc. is getting low fps it will appear choppy and laggy. You have to set a lower fps, maybe 30 or 20 if it's getting low fps.
If you can sustain that framerate in-game but the video comes out bad, try making the x264 CPU preset faster (faster will reduce recording quality because of simpler encoding, but is less demanding on the CPU, so as long as you're CPU isn't creating a bottleneck on encoding, you'll come out smooth.

+Joren parduyns I use my microphone on my Beats headphones but I mess with the sound in Audacity to make it sound crystal clear. If you want to get a mic then I recommend the Blue Snowball or the Blue Yeti, the Blue snowball has near the same quality as the yeti but doesnt have a mute button which i guess is an okay loss for the price! :D
