    Hey Paul, lawn is looking good! I feel for you while you were wearing that long sleeve jacket. You looked like a pro though :D
    Heath was a huge help for me when i talked to him earlier this week and got some chemicals to help in my yard. Here's hoping I'll have a yard like yours by next year.

    • @theCastleberry
      @theCastleberry 7 лет назад

      Thank you so much! It has been a TON of hard work but so glad with how it has turned out. Heath came and told me about the conversation he had with you. He has helped me so much in getting my yard where it is. Glad to have a fan out there and fellow Lawn nut! I have n doubt that if you put a little elbow grease into, your lawn will be popping and putting your neighbors to same next year as well! Cheers!

    a good way to identify a weed: if it wasn't planted, it's a weed.

    • @theCastleberry
      @theCastleberry 7 лет назад +1

      Pretty good! It is extremely messy but does a really good job of marking the areas you spray. Pretty happy with it. Thanks for the compliment! You should see my neighbors yard that has done absolutely NOTHING to their yard! Full of weeds! Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @LawnTips
      @LawnTips 7 лет назад +1

      no worries mate! Love watching a lawn improve week by week! Sometimes is a long journey to the perfect lawn, but its all fun! Hopefully the neighbours weed seeds don't drift into your lawn. My neighbours do, so I started spraying their weeds, haha!

    Hate to be the one to point this out, but the grassy weed at 1:09 is not CrabGrass. I can't fully tell without seeing Ligule and inflorescence, but it sure does resemble Field Paspalum.
    Here's a link to it's description from Missouri State.

    What is the recommended active ingredient and/or product targeted to "grassy" type weeds in a cool season lawn? Specifically foxtail, quackgrass, and clumping tall fescue? Tried 2,4-D to no affect, which I know only targets broad leaf.

    • @domyown
      @domyown  6 лет назад

      Quinaclorac would be your best bet for foxtail and Fusillage for quackgrass.

  • @brenthill5596
    @brenthill5596 7 лет назад +2

    I gave up and let the crabgrass take over 95% of the yard the past few years. It actually looks pretty good if I cut it twice a week with my 42" with gator blades.

      I use to say that if it is green, it's grass! But, having really put forth tons of effort to clear out the weeds, I love the way my clean Bermuda looks!

    We have a weed that comes up every year and spreads. Its only in our back yard and not the front. I believe its called thistle. Very prickly. We pull them out and they come back. We’ve tried sprays and they don’t work. Could you please advise?

    • @domyown
      @domyown  4 года назад

      We would need to confirm an identification of the target weed to recommend a product for you, but there are many products labeled for thistle control. Please feel free to call us at 866-581-7378 for assistance with your situation. We will need to know your state, turfgrass, and the size area you are treating to make a product recommendation for you. Your local Cooperative Extension office is a great resource for assistance you with plant IDs.

    As a reminder the quinclorac is what kills the crabgrass. However it only works if the crabgrass has not reached the 4th tiller stage. Please correct me if im wrong.

    • @domyown
      @domyown  4 года назад

      Quinclorac does work best when crabgrass is young and actively growing and before the 4th tiller stage, or later in the summer as temperatures cool a little. Quinclorac does not work well at times when the crabgrass is kind of in-between in the hottest times of the summer.

    I know you plan on doing this as mentioned in the video, but I am very interested to see the follow-up here. Reason being, I used the same herbicide on my Bermudagrass lawn (Q4 plus) w/ a surfactant and had serious herbicide damage to my lawn. Left huge brown spots and killed much of my grass. Luckily, with the resiliency characteristics of Bermudagrass, I was able to bring it back by watering heavily as well as little doses of fertilizer. Still not sure what went wrong as I am sure the application was applied as specified by the label. Interested to see if you encounter the same issues.
    Love the videos (both lawn & garden). Thanks!

    • @ColonelK0rn1
      @ColonelK0rn1 7 лет назад +3

      Not to hijack his video, but you should come join us at thelawnforum.com and check out the warm season grass threads. There's a great writeup called "The Bermuda Triangle" where there's pretty much 3 chemicals that you'll need to take care of the weeds in your bermuda. I used Celsius in my lawn, and it got almost all the weeds eradicated, with no damage to the turf. I'm working on sedges now, and will be putting down a pre-e later on in the year.

      Yes, I noticed amazing results within 24 hours with Q4 and was blown away with how quickly I saw results. It wasn't until maybe a week-two after where I saw turf damage. Hope you don't encounter the same issues!

      There are many excellent resources online to help with plant identifications. We have some guides for common weeds here: www.domyown.com/lawn-care-guides. We also recommend your local Cooperative Extension website for lots of articles on common issues in your area: nifa.usda.gov/land-grant-colleges-and-universities-partner-website-directory
      WeedAlert.com has a nice image library, although keep in mind that this site is from one specific manufacturer, so it only have product recommendations from that company. Please let us know if you need assistance.

    this application will ding the bermuda a little bit but it will bounce back. quinclorac needs to be watered in to move it to the rootzone.

    • @theCastleberry
      @theCastleberry 7 лет назад

      Luckily I haven't seen any BAD results from this application. I did have a nice rain storm come through the very next day, so maybe that helped out. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Imagine doing all this just to get rid of a few "weeds" why not just leave it and cut it when it gets long? After you cut it you could even leave them in a bucket of water for a week and it wouldn turn into liquid fertilizer.

    I think your inflammation was very helpful but I've been having quite a few problems controlling my crap grass I have tried numerous amount of pre-emergent post-emergent to no effect I can say that was only one product that actually worked and they took it off the market and that was MSMA herbicide it's been a while I can't tell you what that mean but it worked as a post-emerge. can you help me find something that works just as good as a post-emerge I live in the south Bermuda grass is common we can have 70° temperatures in January and at night the temp can drop in the 30s how can I use a pre-emergent and what time of the year can I use it.

    • @domyown
      @domyown  3 года назад

      We understand that you are having problems controlling crabgrass in Bermuda. Using a pre-emergent would be best both in the spring and fall as well to prevent weeds in general. Not sure how large of an area you are treating but Hi-Yield Turf & Ornamental Weed and Grass Stopper would be a good product to use to prevent crabgrass. Timing is very important so contacting your local extension office for timing in your area would be recommended.
      npic.orst.edu/pest/countyext.htm
      Drive XLR8 is a good post emergent for crabgrass as well. If you tell us what products you have tried using we might be able to assist you better. Also if products are labeled and not working you might need to get a weed ID if it's possible it could be something else. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

      We definitely understand your frustration. Our volume of inquiries has gone up over 100% but our staff size had to stay the same as our entire team is still working remotely due to Covid concerns in our area. Since we did not want to keep customers waiting for answers for extended periods of time, (weed ID’s can take quite a bit of time since weeds vary from region to region) we do direct weed and disease ID inquiries to their local extension offices. These folks are very well versed in the weeds in your region and can usually respond to a request within a day or two. You can find your local extension office here: npic.orst.edu/pest/countyext.htm
