Cool
In another video I saw last week the R 211 was running under it's own power. Why are they using the diesels to move them?
I did notice the cars had their 3rd rail shoes attached and I saw internal lights on.
This was taken before it was testing under its own power
@@lamargoat2.054 I hear ya but like I said these cars had their shoes on. Still remember back in the 70's when the TA was working on a plan to have a line coming out of the 59th st tunnel and go along the LIRR ROW and then divert back to TA tracks leading to Jamaica.. Before it was found out a motorman could put the single control handle in Manual Wayside. In that position they could do 70 MPH or more. My friend did this on the F line in queens. LOL He also showed me how you could bypass the Deadman on the R1-9 by taking out the brake fuse. Those were the fun days for me. :)
Are the locos running off the third rail or diesel electric? Great work to all covering the move "-)
Diesel only. Designed to haul work service trains when there is no third rail power.
Thank you for the information. Have a great day!!!!
Any reason why they use more than 2 diesels? I understand 1 on each end but it always seems like a lot of power for such a small tow.
Subway cars are heavy (the R160s themselves are 85,000 lbs per car). Added to the fact that the cars being towed are dead weight, so the locomotives provide all the movement and (along with the rider car) braking power
Most of the R211As may be on the A, C, G, N, Q, and W lines since they are currently using R46s.
N/Q for sure according to the MTA Capital Plan under which the R211s were budgeted under. 😁
What about on the B & D trains?
@@kennethrembert2776 that I do not know. It's gonna be a while
@@tommicoker8498 Ok
Beautiful shiny new cars, but despite shoes attached, saddeningly paralyzed and mute.
Anybody know why there a tube going in in front of the train?
That’s a run-around hose. The R211s don’t use the same brake system as the diesels, so they run a hose through the train so the diesels in the front and rear of the train can have synchronized braking action.
@@DJHTransport oh ok cool thanks DJ!!! Keep up the Good Work love the videos!!!
