8 people got too excited and accidently hit dislike. Seriously though, I watched him play with Russian Circles over a decade ago, if I remember correctly, and I was so damn stunned and impressed by his and the bands performance. Immediately bought an album and two shirts, which I never do.
I'm a drummer myself. Went to go see them live in Chicago last month, and just watching him play was incredible. Best thing about that show was when I got to meet him. =D
I first saw Russian Circles open for Tool here in London and I was blown away. I've always found myself listening to the drumming in songs more than other instruments and Dave just blew me away. Russian Circles become one of my favourite bands that night. Thanks for the video :)
I have listened to them for years. But didnt have my first opportunity to seem live until 9-9-2016. Just a fantastic show. Amazing. The new record is amazing and they just keep getting better. Thanks for the video!
Maggie, thank you for posting this video, I've seen RC one time and I also got some footage myself, they are AMAZING!!! I can't get enough of them! Peace! :)
i had the pleasure to meet him after their gig in vienna last year. he's such a modest person and is absolutely no dick about being such an incredibly awesome drummer. looking forward to seeing them again this year in april
i´m a guitarist and play drums sometimes just for fun and i always think, that i will never be able to play what dave effort but still i think, that this guy can inspire drummers on all levels...
true, not very technical, but the tightness of his playing combined with the originality of his fills and polyrhythms (don't know if he actually uses any, but it seems that way to me) make him stand out from the crowd. I listen to a really wide variety of rock music, and dave is certainly one of the originals out there
one of my favorite videos on youtube. what a goddamn beast, he is so inspiring to watch, but at the same time he shits all over me because I will never be that good, but that's okay
Yeah when they were here a few years back with some shit band called Sleep got to bs with all 3. Them days are gonna slowly go away cause thier on the verge of blowing up. Opening for Coheed lol Nice!!
@dragansfuct - it was probably just someone wanting to be a dick and add a 'dislike' just so that there was one. no way someone who likes this kind of music or understands drum skill would check that seriously. meh.
not that good... i really don't understand what the hype is about.... He rushes mini fills and loses the beat by a 16th every few measures... if this is how the song is written or how it sounds on the album than it is just low quality... Amateur hour up in here
That's just it. Dave ain't some hyper technical drummer. For a progressive rock drummer, Dave is really fun to watch, a refreshing drummer for the genre, and ultimately a powerful drummer. He's influenced by some of the best of this time, Danny Carey and Jon Theodore. And that definitely shows.
well i can see your argument, but there are tons of comments saying he is the best of his generation when dylan elise can keep far more complicated polyrythims in place
It's just another approach to drumming in contrast to the ultra-precise click-tracked drum machine like norm. His fills "breathe" with the song, the mood of the moment, tiny variations that make the groove more human and exhilarating. It takes skill to do that intentionally
I'm no expert and I'm not gonna argue with you about the technical merits of Dave's drumming to he's my personal favorite drummer because of the music he makes. It's easy to find drummers who provide a backbeat for the rest of the band to play on but in my eyes Dave creates interesting and unique soundscapes and actually adds to the music of the piece.
Dyllan Shoemake I agree. He's not a technical beast, but he writes awesome parts and he just drips with style when he plays which makes him super fun to watch. He's not even bad technically either, but comments saying he's the best drummer of the generation are definitely incorrect.

love that at the end the bassist and guitarist are both headbanging to opposite marks. -bassist on the bass kick, guitarist on the snare.
What a creative drummer. His riffs are awesome! It's been 3 years I listen to this video once a week, still love it as fuck !
So this week, at 28 years old, I bought my first kit thanks to Dave Turncrantz. Thank you. You inspire me.
hows it going? i bought mine 2 years ago age 30
Thanks for this. Love watching my favorite drummer play. Dave is unreal
Check out Nick Yacyshyn of the Babtist and SUMAC

Man i would have paid my yearly salary to see that show, which is not much..lol

Incredible. Give me the biggest chills ever
One of the videos I always come back to. Thank you Maggie!

Dave and his drum kit are positioned in the middle of the stage for good reason.. He is the like the eye of the hurricane .
Por la shusha ql seco. No puedo superarlo!
I am impressed with this whole band, being a all around musician it shows there are still good
bands out there
My favorite drummer.Thank You for this vid.
This man, is one of my favorite drummers. Lately I've been trying to play a little more like him. Amazing to watch..
HUGE
Incredible musicians.
I was at this show. They were especially tight. Soooooo good.
Just checking in on this video.. yup, still perfect. See ya soon.. lol
every postrock band needs a drummer such as good as he...
Maggie plz keep putting HD vids up this is an amazing piece. Shane
i´m a guitarist and play drums sometimes just for fun and i always think, that i will never be able to play what dave effort but still i think, that this guy can inspire drummers on all levels...
Amazing drummer, great video!
These fucking guys need to come to Canada, holy shit. I've been a fan of them for too long to not have seen them live.
Thank you!
he is amazing you can tell he plays of feeling rather than counting... to good
Living legend \m/
what a beast!!!
When I think about "Modern rock drumming", I think about this guy.
He's great!I also heard some Jimmy Chamberlin in this video.
@Zvire09 - transcends words, i agree :-)
Dave is a very good technical drummer.
The fill at 2:15 is done with a single kick-pedal.
that was impressive

genius!
@dividebyzeroZA Probably I wouldn't survive a Tool + RC show... You are a lucky guy! :)
@pgcubs05 thank you
Estilo propio.como dave grohl......
one of my favorite videos on youtube. what a goddamn beast, he is so inspiring to watch, but at the same time he shits all over me because I will never be that good, but that's okay
thats what I'd be looking at the whole time anyway xD
You know it, man.
He uses 3 rides. No crashes, but his rides are really dark and very crashable.
RIP Dave's old kit :(
@durkadurka91 thank you
Uf, yeah
@rentk - mine as well. but I'm not actually a drummer so that probably doesn't mean as much ;-)
thats old school af!!!
You have awesome taste in music and you're beautiful! And local! Im in love!
Dave is sitting on a pearl d2000?
What is the name of the track?
'Carpe' from 'Enter' album
@@megatrimba8656 ty
@Ugluk333 I think you'd be pressed to find a mosh pit at a progressive/post rock show.
song name?
what album/EP is this on?
It's 'Enter'
and they're all 21 inch rides. same size different sound
is that like a 24" inch ride that hes crashin on? YAYO
Yeah when they were here a few years back with some shit band called Sleep got to bs with all 3. Them days are gonna slowly go away cause thier on the verge of blowing up. Opening for Coheed lol Nice!!
@davethehostage the emotions would kill me, not the fighting :) :) I am not a jerk to mosh at these shows...
I'd like to put Tunrcrantz in a room with John Stanier and see them go at it. pause...
Bill burr sent me here’s

Post-rock?? the drummer is post-human
This band is the only band that i can listen too without having a vocalist
Nothing special from a drummer's point of view. Usual rock drumming.
not that good... i really don't understand what the hype is about.... He rushes mini fills and loses the beat by a 16th every few measures... if this is how the song is written or how it sounds on the album than it is just low quality... Amateur hour up in here
