    Next year I'd love to see a F150 lighting version of this experience

    Glad to see this video being made. I'd love to have an EV but this kind of thing (plus the pricing of one still being high) is detering me from getting one.

      Yeah it was a bit of a pain. If I actually owned the car my trunk would have a lot of charger adapters in it lol

      @UCWRPH2MGyocY-RUxnxYX4Xg yeah actual ev pwners might have more informed responses but you can order in 240 NEMA14-30 and NEMA 14-50 adapters and a 120-volt adapter for the Porsche connector to make it work with a wider range of wall plugs

    Go to Renfrew/Pembroke every now and then and I need to make sure that I top off my Tesla in Ottawa before heading North because the next supercharger is in Petawawa. Hopefully that CCS adapter for Teslas come in sooner than later and I can fast charge at more places.

      I couldn't do a round trip from Kanata to Eganville with my 2018 (40 kWh) Nissan LEAF because of the lack of charging stations

    Charging stations are the biggest advantage of owning a Tesla. Put in your destination and Tesla will show you where you have to charge, no credit card, no settings up accounts.
    When other car companies start integrating charging stations locations into their cars, Tesla will have some competition.

      Some do and they’re getting better. I think the bigger draw is that there are just more Tesla chargers right now.

    Lack of infrastructure support will impede EV adoption in Canada. This video really highlights why majority of Canadians will not fully swap over to an EV until its more readily accessible.

    Very informative! On an EV road trip from Victoria to Newfoundland and back last summer we found the off-the-beaten-track infrastructure was best in NL, QC and BC. The chargers installed by the hydro companies in each of those provinces were generally reliable and are sprinkled around lots of small towns. Elsewhere there is still a good way to go.

    Petro Canada chargers are free if you have RBC credit card until June 2022

      If their charger works. This past year they have been neglecting to maintain their infrastructure. Every location I’ve been to, there is at least one charger that is online.

    If your parents had a Level 2 installed I feel like this wouldn’t have been nearly as much an ordeal. Get your parents to buy an EV and then they’ll have a reason to put in a charger!
    Our family cottage is close to Renfrew and after my parents bought their EV they’ve now installed a level 2 up at the cottage to make it easier for all of us to go there from Ottawa and back. We had been using just a normal wall outlet but if my brother, myself and my parents all showed up it took days for us to all charge our cars. Now it’s just an overnight thing.

      Yeah I could have gotten level two speeds off of the stove plug I think but since there was a lot of snow I was hesitant to pull the car into the back yard and charge out the window lol. But yeah ideally that would have made this trip seem less!!

    i really dont see any benefit of 1st buying an expensive EV (all EVs are super expensive if you want good range) and 2nd waste time in searching for charging........may be after 5 more years we can have enough chargers and good budget options with good range (mercedes eqs already left tesla in dust for both price and range), but until then nothing beats a natural 5.8 V8 which you can top in under 5 minutes anywhere where there is gas!

    • @wgemini4422
      @wgemini4422 2 года назад

      If you have to drive long distance regularly, yes. EVs are good commute cars. That is why it actually does not make a lot of sense to pay for range. Of course, PHEVs give you the best of both world except you still have to maintain the complex ICE engine. All depends on your usage patterns.

    Most annoying part of this video was repeating everything in miles. Just leave it in kms.

  • @desultorilypanacea

    Did you save any money on gas? How much money would it cost to drive ICE car?

    • @bradbennett1420
      @bradbennett1420 2 года назад +1

      Good question. So In theory had I just squeezed the car into my parents back yard and charged off the stove plug it would have cost me around $25 for the single charge on the way home.
      Since that plan didn’t really work, it overall cost around $90 which is prob about as much gas as I’d use in my car to get there and back. I’ll also mention that we did drive the Porsche a lot more around town and stuff than I would have likely done in my jetta though since I was doing testing.

  • @YourMajestyTheKing
    @YourMajestyTheKing 2 года назад

    Yeah. I tried charging in public for the first time with my Mini SE ever two weeks ago. I played with a Level 2 for free before my dealership kicked me off haha. And then i went to a DC charger 50kw one, wow. The DC charger compare with Level 2 and my regular Level 1 is night and day. that 15 minutes would have been 8-10 hours at home using home socket. So yeah, if there are not enough DC charger. No EV for long trips

    They're pretty much everywhere now, on routes are getting installed right now...I'm surprised the Taycan dropped so much in the cold...a lot of tests in summer have then doing 300miles

    • @bradbennett1420

      Our RUclips often gets a lot of American viewers too, so just trying to Accommodate both measurement systems.

    • @mileitman
      @mileitman 2 года назад +2

      @@bradbennett1420 they can figure it out. :) You never see US or Australian channels doing that

    • @spamclarkeca
      @spamclarkeca 2 года назад +1

      @@mileitman I see a lot of American automotive RUclipsrs putting metric measurements in their videos. TFL and Doug Demuro, for example. Compare with The Straight Pipes, who seem to have decided to just focus on American viewers, losing me at least in the process. I think adding miles in for fans of Her Majesty's measurements is a reasonable concession.

    • @mileitman
      @mileitman 2 года назад

      @@spamclarkeca I'm totally ok with Imperial measurements, so long as metric is there too. I genuinely want to know how many litres of capacity a trunk has and if a vehicle is less than 5m long (to fit in my garage) and by how much. But, I can't just rely on Australian reviews that talk about Nm instead of horsepower. I find it frustrating when Canadian RUclipsrs chase US views to the exclusion of the Canadian audience.

    We are getting closer and closer to the EV revolution. But, for me *this is A LOT of mental gymnastics* to take into account especially for EVs being so expensive. Add to that our harsh Canadian winters (in Ottawa) and I'll wait a few more years until i get an EV.
