  • Hello pianists!
In this video I talk about one of the most beloved song transcriptions by Franz Liszt. Widmung is a part of a song cycle Myrthen, Op. 25 by Robert Schumann, and I haven't met anyone who doesn't find it beautiful.
If you are working on it, here are some ideas to make it sound more beautiful. If you are here to simply appreciate the piece of music, I do play the complete piece at the end of the video.
    Thank you for watching.
    Jeewon

This is such a treasure trove of pithy advice. It's wonderful to see this practice process unfold with such a beautiful piece. It reminds me to slow down and relax and be patient with myself which is much needed. Sublime playing at the end Jeewon! Thank You! Best.

Love this so much. It's not a coincidence that all my favourite pieces are transcriptions?
Ballet from Orphee et Eurydice - Gluck/Sgambati
    Liebeslied - Kreisler/Rachmaninoff
    Le Cygne - Saint Saens/Godowsky
Chopin Piano Concerto Larghetto - Chopin/Balakirev
    Casta Diva - Bellini/Thalberg
On wings of song - Mendelssohn/Liszt
And of course Standchen/Widmung and Auf Dem Wasser Zu Singen by Schubert/Schumann transcribed by the great Franz Liszt.
It's as if everything Liszt touches becomes magic.

It is also no coincidence that Liszt Rachmaninoff and Godowsky were all fantastic pianists and knew exactly how to write for the piano. I mean they could have turned dirt into something completely satisfying to play on the piano. 😆

    Hello, love your piano music^^
    and I have a suggestion.
Would you mind to adjust the camera angle, so that it may also show the pedaling(not only fingerings) in your upcoming videos? It will be very kind and helpful for the new players and beginners to have references from you, and also let the whole picture more complete.😊😊

    Widmung
Mein guter Geist, mein bessres Ich!
Lyricist: Friedrich Rückert, 1788 - 1866, vertont von Composer Robert Schumann; Myrthen Op. 25 No. 1 (As-Dur) 🎹🎼🤍
Tenor: Peter Schreier, Piano: Norman Shetler, Brilliant Classics 1975, released on: 2014-04-25
    Dedication
You my soul, you my heart,
You my rapture, O you my pain,
You my world in which I live,
My heaven you, to which I aspire,
O you my grave, into which
    My grief forever I’ve consigned!
You are repose, you are peace,
You are bestowed on me from heaven.
Your love for me gives me my worth,
Your eyes transfigure me in mine,
You raise me lovingly above myself,
My guardian angel, my better self!
