Unreal video and great review. I have the E.A.S 2.0 and am going to do a fitting for their wedges in the spring. This video has made me want to do the irons as well!
The hype is real. I moved the 8g weight from the toe to the mid position and the ball flight was a towering baby draw. A little too high into the wind so back to the toe it went. I find the feel is crisp and solid, and the milled sole makes a zzzzip sound when I slide it into address. Pure ASMR, lol. If you're a digger and the lofts are too strong, weaken them and they may be greatness. These or ZX7.
Hey James! I'll try to break it down as best I can. In terms of looks, the Edel has a slightly smaller blade length and a bit less rounded overall shape. Interestingly, I prefer the shape of the Edel's but the blade length of the PXG's. - From a feel perspective I personally think the Edel's feel softer, but the only 0317 CB's I've tried are the black finished ones (which I believe have a slightly firmer feel than chrome). - In terms of workability, very similar but I'd give the edge to Edel because you can dial in the weight to fit your swing type (which to me makes these easier to work consistently). - In terms of forgiveness, this is very close. I'd give the edge to Edel, again, because of the SMS; But the 0317's are actually quite forgiving for the style of club they are, so it's pretty close to a toss up. - In terms of turf interaction, I think the 0317's work through the turf well, but just have slightly wider soles and more bounce which isn't my preference. That being said, the tri-stepped-sole on Edel's has been absolutely amazing for me. It is just a bit narrower overall and flatter (less camber), with less bounce, which fits my style of play better. - Distance wise, if you match up the lofts, these will be quite close. Again though, I think dialing in the weight of the Edel's will give you a hair more ball speed which is a plus. - Design: I love the having the back weight in both of these, as it doesn't limit you to using a tip weight. That being said, I think being able to move that weight into the toe or the heel with the Edel's does give you an edge (if one of those weight positions suits your swing). - Overall: I personally prefer the Edel's, but to me the decision would come down to your preferred shape at address, feel, your swing type in terms of turf interaction (steep vs. shallow + turf conditions you play in) and additionally, if you really need that weight in the heel or toe; Because if the right weight for you is in the middle, it would be a near toss up in some of those categories I mentioned. Hope this info helps! - TEJ
@The Equipment Junkie this was the best reply ever. Thanks for the time you put into it. I've played the Edel SLS in the past and I like the quality. I'm currently playing PXG 0317 ST and Srixon ZX5/7 combo. I want a little more forgiveness with the PXG ST but don't want the hot left miss I get with the Srixon. I prefer a short left miss to a long left over draw. Any additional thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank again!!
@@James-th8tu Happy to help! If you went full ST I don’t think you’d see any hot left misses, as they just aren’t built for distance. Additionally, you could even bend them a hair weak to further negate any hotness. That being said, if you struggle with a left miss, being able to move that weight into the toe with the Edel’s is a game changer imo. - Now you mention forgiveness and truthfully, I wouldn’t consider either these irons one you would buy for their “forgiveness”, as it’s just not what they are built for. That being said, what you could do is run a PXG 0311 T or 0311 P in the 4/5 to help with forgiveness in those clubs and then the ST 6-PW for precision. Same with the Edel, 4/5 in the SMS and 6-PW in the pro could work as well. Me personally, I wouldn’t go with a hollow body past the 5i (as that is where spin can get a bit wonky and you can get that occasional jumper/hot left shot).
SMS Pro is a little bigger, probably the size of T150. I had T150 but the swing weight was off. SMS Pro at D8 has been a revelation. Definitely try them.
Played with the PXG 0317 tour. Played with the Edel sms pro. There's no contest: Looks - edel just looks so much better. Feel - edel feels more solid and 'buttery' Distance (carry) - exactly the same Spin - exactly the same Forgiveness - edel, even with the smaller head, is more forgiving. Note though that I played with the weights a bit. Instead of having 2/8/2 as the standard weights - I have them at 8/2/8 which greatly improved stability and forgiveness.
Now that's a review! Thank you for giving them a test drive 👊

Great review. Thank you so much.
Review the matching wedges!

Had a quick question. What shafts did you have in the irons
KBS Tour $-Taper
You should be a news personality 😂 you are way too good of a speaker.
😂 I appreciate the kind words Ian!
They look so good, would love to try them. Agree on the lofts tho
how would you compare the SMS PRO irons to the PXG 0317 CB irons?

One could say this can help muscle memory or make it hard to ever go back to other irons 🤷♀️
Would you say more or less forgiving than Titleist T 100
It’s pretty close, but I’d give a slight edge to Edel because of the ability to move that weight around 👍

How do you like these compared to the PXG 0317's you also tested? Nice channel by the way!

Je ne do like pas. Gimme new P790, Apex Pro, Titleist 150, Tacomo 100...
250 a club is outrageous for a brand with no name value
$250 per Just for a bag of tungsten weights you think are free lol 😂
