Part 2 - Update on the Belgian Draft horses saved from slaughter at the beginning of September 2024

- Episode 112
Since the beginning of August 2024, because of your support and generosity, we have rescued 51 equines (horses and donkeys) from shipping to slaughter! 41 - Belgian Draft Horses, 4 - Percheron's and 6 - Donkeys
Since the start of the farm we have rescued 96 equines! Currently there are 69 horses and 9 donkeys living on the farm. It's amazing to me to that we have rescued so many horses and donkeys in a short amount of time with the size farm we have.
With the amount of horses rescued since the beginning of August 2024, we will be doing the updates on all of them in sections. This video is about the rescue of Hansel, Klaus, Frank and Sage from Bowie Texas Livestock.
Buddy (a Belgian Draft horse gelding) and Luna (a Percheron mare) were previously rescued from another rescue group here in Texas. Buddy and Luna were a bonded pair and were picking on the smaller horses at the rescue. The owner of the rescue reached out to us to see if we would be willing to give them a retirement home since they needed to be kept together. We agreed to take them! This is an update video on these 6 horses and how they are doing since arriving to the farm.
As a growing horse rescue group, we rely on monetary donations to keep the organization moving forward. The Big Hoof Foundation will always be transparent with how your donations are used. 100% of the money we raise goes directly to the rescued horses' bail fees, transport, feed, hay, medical bills, medications, alternative medical treatments, supplements, surgeries, etc. Every dollar raised is for the horses!
We have a fundraiser going for all the medical bills for the 51 equines we have rescued since the beginning of September. We could definitely use your support with this fundraiser. All the details of the fundraiser along with copies of the medical bills are at www.bighooffoundation.org
We hope you enjoy this video! Make sure you like, comments and subscribe to our channel so you don't miss anything happening around the farm! Because it's never a dull moment! Thank you for watching!

Another way to support us is with feed...the one item WE always need is FEED! If you would like to send a gift/donation of feed (Alfa Pro or beardless wheat) you can send that through our local feed store, HF & C Amarillo. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo/Big Hoof Foundation and they will add the gifts to our account.
We are feeding the herd round bales of beardless wheat and the horses go through about 6 bales every few days. A round bale of beardless wheat is $140. We also use small square bales of beardless wheat and can be purchased through HF&C Amarillo for $14.95 each. Our special needs horses also eat Alfa-Pro which is a complete pelleted alfalfa mixed with vitamins and minerals. Alfa-Pro is $17.45 per bag. They do offer a discount if you purchase by the pallet (40 - 50 pound bags) $16.95 per bag if purchased by the pallet.

Although I follow you from the beginning I still have sometimes tears in my eyes when I see starved horses with ribs you can count and scars above their noses. I enjoyed to see less "walking skeletons" in this video and some of the gentle giants "pestering" you for treats. After their hard lives with little or no respect or love they are so forgiving. Thanks to the great sponsors who are able and willing to pay a whole bail for a doomed Belgian. You and Julies team and supporters around the globe are a light of hope in these dark times full of aggression and destruction. I am glad to be a member of this community and can help from Europe to make the world of today a little better. Bless you all. 🌟🌟🌟
@@hansgustaf540 thank you so much for your support and kind words! We appreciate you following our journey!
Super comment Hans! I love the Fletchers too, from UK ❤️
YOU ARE AN AMAZING DONOR!❤ THANK YOU
Thanks to all who cared for this amazing mare! I had a Cappuccino granddaughter, PasoFino, that we bonded immediately and rode the trails for 17 yrs. She had developed a suspensory ligament disorder. I let her go. She was 24.
I love your comments and your love for horses. It’s wonderful. Horse stories are always heartwarming. ❤❤❤❤❤
Mr. Supervisor Dog always checking that things go right.

Very sweet a necessary thing that you are doing. Wonderful to hear that some Percherons are with you too.
Sage has an old soul and Frank is soi Funny 😂
Ahh, Frank, you are a sweetheart. He’s a beautiful horse. Love Klaus’ long tail.
Question: why do some Belgian's tails grow long, but most don't?
@@RataPerry The short ones have been docked for the use of harnesses. Some grow again after the rescue.
I have a deep love of Belgians. We even have Belgian mules on farms nearby.
Hey subscriber's putting a shout to everyone to subscribe. Julie and her team do such a wonderful job and taking care of these horses and donkeys. I would like to see them hit ONE million. Hansell will be friends with you one day I think. He is still scared. Poor boy. Who knows what happened to him. Thank you again.💕
It's all so new to him.
Thank you for taking care of them. I know you love them.❤
Thank you for watching! We appreciate your support.
PS I have shared this to my Facebook page so my friends can see all the horses and donkeys.
Thank you so much! We appreciate you spreading the word and thank you for watching!
*It makes me SO happy to know they will never have another dang tag glued onto their body or tail!*
I just found your channel. Love your passion for horses! I got my first horse back in 2014 at 51 years old. Thank you everyone who helps these beautiful horses❤❤❤❤
Thank you for the update, everyone looks so happy!
Oh my goodness! They are SO skinny!
They probably haven't ever been touched except to be brought to work. Looking forward to when they get to be "love bugs"! I think I'm in love with Hansel and Klaus!
Hansel is gorgeous.
Such beautiful horses. Thank you for helping them. I can't even think about how anyone could kill these poor creatures.
We agree, they are so special!
A friend had a old long handle frying pan that she would put a treat on and then used to give treats to the horses, until they would take treats from her hands. The horses also were gentled by regular grooming. She that slow also.
Thank you😊
Love all you are doing. Thank you very much 🙏😊
Thank you for your support, we appreciate it!
Thank you all, so very much❣️💯🐴 ☮️
You are very welcome! We appreciate your support.
Wow, so many horses out to pasture. Great to see

All the scars on the horse‘s faces 😢 and the scars on their souls 😢
We are working on healing both of those scars!

Thank you for doing this. I wish I could help.
I'm always amazed you know their names. Love ❤ your dedication to these neglected beautiful giants N donkeys.
Really appreciate the update such a joy to see these beautiful horses being rescued and given the life they deserve!

Their Stunning,.
thank you for saving these horses♥♥♥
I absolutely love seeing these ‘little’ babies for low you around like puppies! 😅❤ I am sure they realize the change as soon as they step off of the trailer at the farm. You are such a Godsend…. I can’t imagine how satisfying it would be to walk among these wonderful creatures! Thank you so much for your work, and thank you so much for sharing!!❤❤
What a wonderful job you are all doing. I love your channel so much❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉

@@FletcherFarmsAmarillo WE appreciate you!! GOING INTO ACTION
Love how your dog is like, ok guys follow me the herd is this way.
Thank You so much for rescuing these beautiful, majestic horses. Shame on people for using these animals, and discarding when they can’t work hard enough for them.
Such a great video. Lovely horses. ❤❤❤❤
That man at the auction is strong, he can jump onto an 18 and more hand horse! Hansel is so gorgeous. I remember when the vets used simple hand tools with no power to float their teeth. Their vet care, so complete, must be costing thousands and thousands.
Yes vet care is expensive!
Frank is a puppy dog …. So sweet..
He really is!
Always look forward to your posts. Buddy and Luna are a sweet couple. 🐎😊
It will take time, Julie. But I have no doubts that Hansl will eventually come around to letting you or someone else touch him. With some horses that have been dumped into the slaughter pipeline, they feel abandoned by all they know. Everyone they knew is gone. The routine is different. Give him time, and love, and move slowly. Let him dictate the pace. You'll find that's the best way for him to learn the all-important TRUST again. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
@@jenniferlehman326 Hi Jennifer! I always like your comments about the gentle giants. Greetings from Germany! 👋
@hansgustaf540 Danke! Thank you! I've dealt with many rescues, and it takes time for them to learn to trust us again after all they've been through. I'm just speaking from experience. I hope you have a wonderful evening! Where in Germany are you? My family is from around Hamburg. I have Ruhl, Kuhl, and obviously, Lehman, in my paternal family tree. Jenn 💖
Nice so happy you are watching too❤
@GlendaFoxhlove-n9f I always do! Love these gentle giants, hate the treatment they get when someone decides they aren't worth anything anymore. But they deserve so much!! Love for all the work they've done all their lives. And they get that here!! Love Jenn 💖
Beautiful update!! All look so happy in their new home!! 🫂💗
We are so happy they are all doing well! Thank you for watching!
Hi Everyone on the farm, people and all these beautiful animals!!!! Love your channel!!!! Keep up the great work. It’s soooo hard, but must be so rewarding. Love from Bucks County Pennsylvania. My son lives in Midland Tx. ❤❤

Another amazing video saving and nurturing these beautiful horses. Thank you.
Thank you ❤🎉
Happy New Year Julie! Your rescue herd seems so happy and doing well. I love watching the reaction when the rescues first go out to the pasture, it's like they know they are free!😊
Thank you so much!
Thank You for saving this Beautiful Horse and every horse!!! 🙏💜🙏
Thank you Julie, we appreciate the update and always love seeing how relaxed and happy the horses are now. 💜
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!
Bless your hearts for savings these beautiful animals ❤
What’s going on at the farm where the 4 horses came from 😢
Get the muffins Julie! (that’s what Frank, Buddy and Luna are saying!)
So wonderful to see weight on Klaus. Hansel - I hope he gains the trust.
Can’t imagine what these horses have been through 😢
We have gotten a lot of horses from the same place now. Most people dump horses before winter so they don’t have to feed them for the winter.
Hansel will eventually come to trust you, Julie. Your gentleness and kindness will win the day. One day, you could always try lunging him to teach him to treat you with more trust and respect. Frank is a sweetie. Thanks for all your hard work.
It’s great to see how all these guys are all following you around. I’m sure they look forward to the possibility of treats but it’s also clear that they are living a good life and they are enjoying their life and all the people too. Great work you all!😊
They definitely love their treats!
Thank you for all you do..I send money whenever you ask…
Thank you so much for your support! We couldn't do it without you.
❤️Thank you so much for your update, all my best for you and your family 🌞🌻🙋♀️
Everyone is doing great thanks to everyone's help.
Frank was posing! 😊
I thank you all who can and do advocate for the majestic and loving and loyal horses. That anyone would choose to slaughter what should be beholden as Gods pure gift to our care is sickening. All animals and wildlife are here at God's will and we should be grateful for the opportunity to care for them in their older lives. Please continue to pray for their freedom to relax and be treated like the gorgeous creatures they are. They deserve that.
Wow so wonderful to sweet
Thank you for watching!
Do you ever allow a horse to be adopted? You are amazing and I love all your videos, and of course all the rescues.
No…these horses are here for retirement. Most are in their upper teens with medical conditions. We give them their last years to live as a horse in a herd with their own kind.
@FletcherFarmsAmarillo
I like that. I also like the set up of your organization.
Liam looks AMAZING! glorious mane - he's a rockstar! you all are so special - making things so stable and safe for these angels - i love you all (including the donators, subs and fans) so so much xoxoxox humanity at our BEST
Busy time at Fletcher farms!!! Thanks for all you do julie!! You guys rock!🎉🎉❤❤❤

Thank you for the work, love, and commitment you and your team made to save these horses. Glory to God! For all your efforts.
You may not have been able to pet him, but you did get a nose boop! Baby steps, boops are baby steps.
You must keep farriers really busy!! 😊
Yes we do!

Thanks Julie for all u do. That Luna is stunning. God bless❤
I tried to donate by card. I don’t use PayPal . Thank you for your compassion for these animals.💚🙏
Humans using those horses as slaves and then kill them. That is so out rages and I think it's more than that. I believe that it is evil. I am extreamly thankfull that you rescue them and keep them and love them and look after them. May your endevour be blessed richly. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! We appreciate you watching.

Julie, I want to visit one day!
It seems like your pasture would be a good testing ground for horse toys that engage their minds as well as their bodies. C'mon horse toy entrepreneurs, here's the place to test, (I don't mean to be out of line with the invitation, which is rhetorical.)
Shared and am a subscriber and patreon. Best rescue.
Thank you for your support, we appreciate it!
So beautiful ❤
Thank you so much for watching!
Julie, I just love the relationship you have with all of the horses. Are you ever afraid out there in the middle of the herd?
No I’m not afraid but I do have to keep my head on a swivel. Definitely don’t want to get between 2 horses.
Thank goodness for Fletcher Farms
Great job Julie, Corey and friends, doing an amazing job ! 🐴😀
Thank you so much for your support!
👍👍👍👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰🐎🐎🐎😀😀😀happy to see all are healthy 👍👍👍🤞🤞🤞😀😀😀
Ty for all you do.
I am so proud and love you guys so much
One rule of thumb when filming, always face the sun when possible. No glare then. Wishing you a wonderful day from Germany. 😊
I try but the wind is my issue. Depending on the direction of the wind I have to put the sun behind me or you won’t hear the audio.
Love ya'all!!!
It's such a wonderful thing you are doing to take in these great draft horses & donkeys. The alternative for them after their working life is too cruel to even imagine. God bless you.
Julie, most horse rescues with even half the number of horses, have 4 times as many locations for all the herd the feed without be chased off .
Please consider this for the newbie’s.
Also, fly spray them before they arrive to the ranch.
This is the 3rd time the newbies were very agitated to the point of distraction from eating . ❤😊
I do enjoy your effort and happy to see more rescues.
QQQ have your board ever considered collaborating with other similar horse rescues to eliminate the slaughter of all equines. ??? Food for thought!!
@@janelmc17 it’s winter now and they all do get fly spray. Other rescue groups don’t want to work together because it takes away from their donations. I have been doing this by myself for the last 3 years and these horses would have had a much different fate if we hadn’t stepped in. The horses never go without anything and there is plenty of space for everyone!
These big horses are so deserving of all good things.
I hate how they are referred to at auction
as "used" for this job or that.
Those people care for their farm trucks better than the horses.
I've seem it with my own eyes.
Although the Amish don't use mechanized tools. Hence, the use of draft horses, carriage horses and mules.
I know you'll win over Hansel with those yummy minty muffins...he'll be eating out of your hand soon enough!
Indianapolis loves you all
So 2 of the 4 horses from the same farm, both have a blind left eye!
Probably NOT a coincidence 😢
No Frank is the only one that is blind in his left eye.
Love you al so much ☺️💕
