Do you have a source on Rick wrighting it? (heh) just curious, I hadn't heard of this before and couldn't find anything that credited Wright. I do recall reading it was intended either as Syd or Rick's tribute to each other somewhere, but I don't know about that. The only full fledged "love" song to Syd was Oh! Wot a Dream which is such a great tribute. I always thought Kevin Ayers sounded like Syd in quite a few songs and wondered how much Syd influenced him, and then to come across that, it all made sense.

She Was a Millionaire (not one in a million, which exists as a live song, but is unrelated) was supposed to be the follow up single to See Emily Play. It was mostly finished and was generally felt that it was some of Syd’s best work. Unfortunately, before it could be fully completed Syd started getting unwell and the band had decided to take their music in other directions and it was never finished. The tapes are believed to have been destroyed. But, who knows.
There's a bit of debate on who actually wrote this song: Syd or Rick Wright. Judging by the lyrics--specifically the lack of surrealism and psychedelia--it sounds like a Rick song. Either way, it's still a great song.
@@jamesmckean3221 yes I quite like birdie hop, one of his more bizarre songs but it has a happy and cheerful feel with eerie undertones, something he was very good at doing with other songs such as Flaming and Effervescing elephant. I don't often listen to Birdie Hop and will admit it's my least favourite, but I don't dislike it, rather there's a time and a place for it, whereas most of the others I can listen to anytime.

Syd Barett and Pink Floyd were a good match!!! The healthy Syd was very creative. Unfortunately he had the wrong friends. His sister Rosmarie once said: His bad times started with Pink Floyd. I would say: His bad times started in the shared flat where Syd lived. He hung out too much with junkies. His two solo albums should have been recorded with Pink Floyd, they would have been better musically. Syd Barett could have become something real. Drugs ruin your life. He failed as a painter and musician. I am interested in how Syd lived with his illness?? Did he ever have therapy???

I can relate to your feeling very well. I like every outtake and version of his songs. Each has unique style, catching brief moment of Syd's view.
