First thing I want to say is a big congratulations to you, Kaylee, for the shop growing to the point of being a major distributor. Maybe it's not a big deal, but it seems like it's a big accomplishment for the shop, so yay! And this video was really interesting. Flipping plants seems like it's a pretty big gamble so hearing your insight regarding the practice is pretty cool. Seems like it would be a safer bet to chose a product that is more stable ie less able to die, but then maybe that's the draw of it? Idk, the video was just thought provoking. :)

Here in Australia with our strict biosecurity, local nurseries grow out batches of special "rare" release plants. They then release them to our local hardware warehouse in identifiable pots and really comparable price for a first release. Flippers will literally take the photo of the plant in store, with store branding in the background Less than an hour after the store unboxed the plants. They buy all they can and jack the price x3 or x4. They don't even deny it half the time.

See... that.. really disgusts me.. and breaks my heart. Ugh, why can't everyone be excited ... for someone to get... a plant they love.. and want to take care of... and enjoy... without people taking advantage of that... 🤦🏼‍♀️
I just sold a cutting of my monstera albo(easily a cutting i could get for 300+$), to someone in a town close to mine... for literally 100$... and I'm happy about it.. they're happy about it.. I think I was equally excited as she was... because .... I was able to give someone access to their dream plant.. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤩 and she was just so grateful and excited. Mamei and Plowmanii both climb when they are young. They change growth pattern to creeping when they develop cataphyls. Quite a few things change actually including internode length, root thickness, leaf shape. I've heard of Mameis that just straight up climb but I haven't seen a Mamei that climbs while also growing from a cataphyl.

Just catching up on the vids after touching down in Manchester from my holiday. I am so shocked you mentioned people flip so close to you sending out. I am one of the clients from you and the seller in Ecuador. I do not let a plant go out until healthy roots and shoots turn up. I can't imagine buying a plant with import roots and to me it's very obvious those sellers not rehabbing long enough. Luckily I have money to waste and enjoy the process of rehabbing but I agree with you 100% you shouldn't be flipping just for money reasons. Many are with me over 8 months (I still have plants from last april and July from you) and I wish people would realise how much effort goes into rehabbing. I think the video will be helpful for those that are maybe new to plant buying and aren't aware what import roots/damage look like. You might have seen on FB that people are now questioning any suspicious sales so it's very topical right now!

The one on the left, lighter green is Mamei. The veining on the leaves are closer. So you can tell the difference between Mamei & Plowmanii as Plowmani's veins are further apart making the leaves look more pillowy. Also, Mamei are crawlers not climbers.

About the Hoya propagation, I have maybe 30 species of Hoya and find that the more sturdy/woody ones likes to be propagated in LECA, even nodes without leaves. For the more herbaceous ones, like the polyneura, Bella, multiflora, they rot so easily that I just had success in water for the first roots to appear and then switched to soil. But the more woody ones, definitely LECA is a nice way of doing, even just coconut chips lightly moistened works as well

It is important for me to know whether a plant is creeping or climbing and of course learn to recognize and distinguish plants from each other. My personal opinion on flipping plants is that it’s perfectly fine as long as the seller is delivering healthy plants in the end. I don’t care if they held onto the plant for a month or a day as long as I get a quality item. I’m guessing most people who sell plants start off flipping because building up enough mother plant stock can take years, maybe even a decade. Buying wholesale from places like Ecuador, rehabbing the plant as quick as possible and then shipping it off to the final buyer seems fine. I have zero problem with that as long as the plant is healthy in the end. However the seller makes that happen…I don’t care.

Another great video Kaylee! Because of you I have been experimenting with leca and pon. Fun stuff! Elho/Lechuza self watering pots however are very difficult to find in the US. So far I’ve only been using the ‘tray’ method like in your shop.

I bought a monstera albo and a white princess and both within 3 days had root rot. I hadn't watered them very much as the soil wasn't drying. Watching this, I'm realizing the seller was probably flipping plants. Would love to see the video on how to spot flipping.

Very interesting video, great to see the living wall again as your backdrop. Fascinated by the differences in the Philodendron Plowmanii. . Sorry to add to your already extensive video to-do list, but would love a video on your observations of the Plowmanii and their different markings/colour of silver. Silver Boy, as you referred to him, is a stunner All the upcoming videos you have planned or are thinking of doing sound interesting and worth watching. The battle with the larger Elho pots was quite funny to see 😄

For some reasons my home simply cannot sustain philodendron. Every single one of them just dies on entry. I have a variety of anthurium, a group of calathea, and a bunch of alocasia that are all doing pretty well. I'm super jealous because what you have there are all just gorgeous! I wish I could bring them home with me!

I add leca to Pon all the time. I can use less Pon and, if it's a large plant in a large pot, the pot weighs a lot less than if I use all Pon.

I would love video duscussing the Plowmanii vs the Mamei too, I have what I think is a Mamei but now I am not so sure anymore. I grown the bulk of my plants (and that includes about 70 orchids) in Seramis, sometimes I mix this with leca.I have tried pon for orchids but I ‘m not sold on that, however I think my aroids would be better suited to try out pon. I would like to see a video where you discuss which plants do best in pon and which do not. And also what do you use to feed them in inorganic media? Love ❤️ your video’s by the way, no matter how long they get in the end 😉

hey Kaylee, mamei plants are actually crawlers! mine grows in a long pot outside my house and it has not tried to grow upwards. :)
edit: i just saw your mamei and it’s so interesting! it normally is a crawler by i can only guess that it might be growing upwards towards the light? also my mamei has an all green stem. 🤔 and i’ve seen immature mamei as well and they have green stems as well. maybe there are sub varieties? i’d love to see a deep dive on these crawlers.

Yes! I would love to see plowmanii vs mamei, I recently asked this question in my local groups and got mixed answers. Some saying the silver, others saying the ridges where petiole meets leaf? Mamei with the red veining? I can’t tell the difference tbh and would love further insight
