I never quite understood how in "War Games" Stephanie managed to trigger the gang war (in a bid to make herself appear to be a better hero). She hacked into the Bat-computer, found a contingency plan where "Matches" Malone does something to pit the gangs against each other, and then the battle escalates. Of course, the storytellers acknowledged that Stephanie's fatal flaw was not realizing that Matches was Bats' underworld alias. Fine. So how could she start the war? Batman would have been aware of her actions as soon as she tried to activate Matches, right? And without a reason to use his contingency plan, Matches/Bats would not have stirred up any conflict between Gotham's gangsters.
Great video. She is a Robin, if Batman takes you under his wing and then cries at your bedside as you die... you are a Robin. Just glad she didn't get the crowbar
I don’t think my rules for what makes you a robin will apply to. I think they should. Those are one you have to wear the costume into and more importantly you have to be accepted by Batman. (Yes it really is that simple)
Great, concise video. I love learning about these characters and plots without hearing a voice for every speech bubble or unnecessary skits in-between. Congrats on a thousand subscribers also. You definitely deserve them. Looking forward to the next video!
What is so great and impressive about your videos is the deep dive and the look behind the scenes. The artist sketches of the costumes with notes like at 1:20. The interview quotes from various multiple writers/creators which are always fascinating because amongst them, they will differ, sometimes hugely, on their take on a character's motivations, look, legacy, meaning, etc. (Somehow I never expect that.) And your commentary making sense of it all and bringing together the history/origins, and things like, such as in this instance, noting that a character was an amalgam of various characters and showing that to us. You always do an excellent, thorough job, while managing to keep it interesting and fun. "Find your real clothes and get out of that ridiculous playsuit, son". Ouch! Have to say I'm a little disappointed that their reasoning for bringing in a girl-Robin is to get revenge against her love interest. She can't be into crime fighting superhero stuff just on her own? This seems a surprisingly stunted sense of imagination considering the otherwise endless imagination of these writers. Wondering how her resurfacing from her, um, faked death went over. This seems super lame. And the weird twist that she was allowed to die by some rogue nurse. Just strange.
Although she's a pretty beloved character, the whole stunt of making her Robin was probably ill advised, considering it had a predetermined ticking clock, regardless of how fans reacted to it. A lot of the writers and especially Dan Didio were kind of raked over the coals for doing the character wrong. Someone mentioned in the comments that there's an obscure comic that expands on Stephanie's motivations to become Robin beyond revenge on Tim, but as I said, it's obscure, and typically skipped over. They've gone onto fix their mistakes and redeem the character as best they can, and she's about to get her own series alongside another version of BatGirl (called "BatGirls"). So, it worked out for ol' Steph in the end, just not as a Robin. Thanks for watching!
Totally! It would be cool to see her pop up in anything. The upcoming Gotham Knights series is going to have a female Robin, but they went with Carrie Kelley. 🤷🏻♂️
As spoiler, she wanted love
As robin, she wanted revenge
As batgirl, she wanted justice
Stephanie B sure does have an interesting arc.
Well put! Thanks for watching!

and I totally agree. 👍

yes she is the robin why she deserved to be the 4th robin
Stephanie Brown is better off being Spoiler.
In 2020 Tom Taylor's DCeased Hope at world's end#5 Stephanie became Robin to Damian Wayne’s Batman.
