We have a small place at the beach also in the US and it’s interesting to see your’s. We have been to our friend’s summer houses in Sweden and I know how special they are. Especially the little ones that may be considered “retro” as your’s is. Enjoy!

I love your Swedish cabin and the scenic ocean views. You’re inspiring me to get busy and streamline my home. In Staten Island, New York where I live we also recycle a lot including composting, which is picked up weekly. I think it’s wonderful that we can see how others live across the world and be encouraged. Thank you for giving us this window. ❤️

Diane, you made me laugh so much about the walk in the woods being rather "creepy." haha You must mean it is like a hike through trails? We have nature centers here and they have paved paths cutting through the wooded areas. I love to go to them..yet..never alone, because I tell my DD18, "It feels creepy with out DH with us!" It is rather serene and I love to hear the sounds of the birds and squirrels scampering around but sometimes, I jump and am startled so good thing DH is along. Thank you for sharing your cabin. It DOES have good karma:) The kitchen is always my favorite zone to be in. I use plastic ziplocks the same way to keep items contained. I thought about buying a drawer tray organizer instead but then thought, "Why buy something extra when the baggie works well?" As always, such good fun to follow along and clean with you. I enjoyed the beach walk at the end of my gym work-out today..ahhh so serene...

Thank you for help me getting my kitchen clean again, Diane! We started to move house last Thursday and the kitchen in the flat we are moving out of was in a state of functioning chaos. We do need to live here for the next two weeks still, with only half the furniture etc, and now I can start off Monday morning with a little less chaos at least!

I have joined others for a November self care month online. Our little ranch house is probably the size of your summerhouse.
Your T1 seems to come out when you mentioned you simply slapped white paint onto the cabinets. As a T4 you would have likely planned it out.
It seams like a proper house to me. Why do you call it a summer house?
It isn't built for year round use (the guest cabins aren't completely insulated, etc).
Do you have to nag your kids to do those things, room tidying etc? My boys are admittedly 10 years younger than your kids, but I’d love to know how to get to that stage 😃
Plenty of encouragement and small rewards in the beginning! 🤗 And not "redoing" what the kids have done - don't look for 'perfect'
Mine did the same as Diane's. (A son and daughter, 2 years apart in age.) They learned to pick up their toys after play when they were very young; to push in their chair after leaving the table, to remove their shoes in the house, eneral manners and personal cleanliness. All of this before they started school.
When they were in grade school I gave them small regular chores. Like putting their clothes away after I folded them. Making their own bed. Unloading the dishwasher. Emptying the trash. Putting the clean sheets, which I had washed, on their beds...all of this around age 9/10. I explained I was not the maid and that we were a family, a team.
By the time they were in high school they were responsible for making their own lunches, doing their own laundry and cleaning their bedrooms, and bathroom. I walked by their rooms with blinders on in the beginning, so I would not be tempted to redo it as Diane mentioned below. They knew that they could not leave food, dirty glasses etc in their rooms b/c it might draw bugs, so I did insist on that, and that they dust, and vacuum weekly.
It taught them to be disciplined, which I believe goes along with being a principled person. Principles are not much good if you don't have the discipline to live them.
Dr. Jordan Peterson, a Canadian professor and clinical researcher, teaches his students that if they want to be successful in life they need to learn to clean their rooms. If you need insight, he's got it. You can find him here on youtube.
When I came of age people believed it was a woman's job to serve the man. I taught mine that we are to serve one another; that this is the way love acts.
Thanks for sharing Diane. Your summer home is lovely. I was thinking I didn’t hear your birds. Do you leave them in Denmark or bring them with you if you are staying for a bit?
They have a large volière here at home and can look after themselves for a couple of days. When we are away, our neighbours come and feed them and give them fresh water.

The family are doing fine and well, thank you! They moved back into their own house in May (there is still some refurbishing work going on).
