    I have my Magic Speed 2s up over 130 miles. One of my absolute favorite shoes ever. The firmness of the lower layer and carbon/TPU plate combined with the soft middle is perfect for my particular foot strike. Great for snappy tempo/threshold workouts. I also ran my marathon and half marathon PRs in them. Grip is amazing even in rain. Midsole is also much more forgiving at warmer temperatures.

    I just ran both a 5 and 10k pr in these last month. 19.30 and 39. 37. Not for running slow in as they feel unstable from the heel. So if you are running on your toes I feel these are very good. And so they are good for threshold and tempos when you need to step on it. Got them on discount here in Ireland 🇮🇪

    I switched to these from the Endorphin speed 2s (kept getting hot spots) and I think they are some of the best tempo shoes I've owned, really comfy and feel nearly as snappy as my Alphafly's

    I got a pair of the magic speed 2s in October, and I have over 200 miles in them. Easily my favorite shoe I've ever owned, despite my preference for more cushion. The outsole gripped quite well in the rainstorms I ran in, and is wearing down far slower than any other outsole I've used, since I shred any exposed foam on most of them, and I'm seeing almost no wear. I love the bounce of the midsole, but as you speculated, it really opens up after about 80 miles and feels incredible. I am slightly perplexed that you gave it a 5/10 for the weight because it has a carbon plate, and a 6/10 for price, despite the plate and purpose of the shoe. I personally think $150 is a steal for a plated raceable shoe. I also suspect that the foam would also open up a lot in warmer weather, which may have changed your opinion on the ride if you tested this shoe in the summer.

  • @RobertHarridge
    @RobertHarridge Год назад +11

    They open up. Mine took about 20 miles to open up, but it’s a fantastic plated shoe for a heavier guy. I’m easily able to compress that FlyteFoam/FFBlast+ pretty easily and it feels great!

      I'm a bit late to this, but just seen some on sale and they've peaked my interest. Do you feel like they compress a lot as a heavier guy or do you find it's firm but compresses just enough? I bought the glideride 3 last year - I'm aware they're very different shoes - but those things seem to have a similar foam combo and they just bottom out on me in the forefoot. Makes me nervous about buying anymore asics shoes.

    best shoe I've had towards the latter part of the year. Wanted to go from endorphin speed 2 to speed 3, but opted for these instead. IMO felt better in the shop for me - felt faster. Firmer than the Speed 2s, but the roll feels similar.

    I have the v1 and really like it- it is firm, but I actually found it really comfortable! One thing I noticed is that the midsole foam is very temperature sensitive, so it notably opens up and gets bouncier in warm temperatures. I exclusively use it for tempo runs and workouts in the summer and love it for that. In the snow/cold the ride feels just like you described the v2 😅

    • @JTD33
      @JTD33 Год назад

      That also applies to the v2. RunRepeat tested it and the midsole got 125% denser after being exposed to freezing temperature. The average result is 26%.

    Someone please clarify for me if I'm reading this wrong but why are there such low scores for the durability (7) and price (6)? Given that there is a carbon/TPU shank in the shoe that's geared for tempo days and racing (according to Asic's website) you would think a prediction of 400+miles and a price of $150 would be a fantastic deal (should warrant a score of 8s). Most tempo and race day shoes these days come with super soft compounds that don't last long so I can't help but to think his bias towards the stiffness and feel of the shoe is affecting his scoring. I know his scores are highly subjective but I thought he was trying to move towards more objective scoring with how each score should be relative to what the shoe is used for. It's frustrating to hear how a shoe like this with most people loving it in the comments is getting such a poor overall review score. He says the scoring system is a work in progress but I mean it's been a number of years now since he's been adjusting it...

    • @alansutherland6663
      @alansutherland6663 Год назад +2

    I had the V1 and now the magic speed 2 as well and have to say I really like them. Super comfortable and supportive upper nice lockdown and tho stiff I like the ride and you can feel them compressing more and more under the forefoot the faster you run...
    Have to admit the heel feels kinda like a brick underfoot but I haven't really found that to be an issue during my shorter treshold or interval sessions :)
    And I tested the speed 3's as well and just thought you sunk to the ground in those and really lacked toe spring
    Yet everyone loves those so it's really personal to find what you enjoy the most

    These shoes are both hard and soft. I have found that the temperature changes these shoes a lot. Anything above 50 degrees and these are great. Below that, that midsole is hard and I cannot run more than a couple of miles in them. These are definitely a summer shoe. I still like the Endorphin Speeds better. Those are much more versatile shoes and do not get effected from temperature changes.
