I felt that… I was a lawyer, commuting to work everyday downtown. While I was on a biz trip to Vegas I started writing my first novel. I was so excited… the pandemic happened and I realized how much I was giving everyday to being busy rather than appreciating the time I had forged for myself to write, be in that flow state.
After my sister in law passed, my husband and I became guardians of our nephew, a teenage young man. And I lost that job bc of that family emergency, bc of prioritizing what was important to me. So…
Instead of stay in the city with rising prices and business… we bought a small house 30 mins outside the cities. My husband commutes into the city for work but the drive is scenic and he says even tho it’s slightly longer it’s less stressful. I take the dog out to play every day - we have so much green space and a small wooded area. It’s so lovely. Slowing down and living simply is helping me heal from burnout from being a lawyer and all those expectations I let everyone put on me. Now I’m working on publishing my 3rd novel in the Crescent Crown Saga series. I prefer this way…

First comment! Hustler culture is the worst. Your comments remind me of the new idea of living a “soft life”

Never heard of the idea of living a “soft life”… sounds interesting. I’ll do some research about it. Thanks for the comment! Hope you’re doing well Elijah!

I like the various definitions of a quiet life and how it circled back to minimalism

I've noticed that for me, living a quiet(er) life actually means being a louder, more expressive person. Because when the clutter in my head diminishes, the chatter gets quieter and my inner critic doesn't paralyse me anymore. It makes me more open and extroverted in social situations and I express my creativity and playfulness more.
Thank you for the great video Ronald, wishing you a quiet evening (it's evening here in Germany)!

My version of a quiet life would be literally quiet a quarter of the time but the rest would be filled with music and dance and domestic travel - basically focusing on the things I enjoy rather than just existing and accumulating material things I don’t actually need

My name is Yoshikage Kira. I’m 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don’t smoke, but I occasionally drink. I’m in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning.
I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I’m trying to explain that I’m a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn’t lose to anyone.

Thank you sir for your wise words, a great help it was. When I search a quiet life I always look into women content, considering I'm a woman and all. But this is the first time I watch a video with a man talking about such a concept. I was drawn to your video and it did not disappoint.

I always enjoy your videos Ron. I have been most content when on long distance thru hikes. Everything I need is on my back and it's intentionally very minimal. Less weight is critical but so is less stuff as each item takes up space in my thoughts and too much can leave me frazzled when I'm physically exhausted. When I hike I don't listen to music, just take in the sounds, smells, sights, touch and feelings of my hike. And when I eat the food I've taken on my journey the tastes are amazing even though it's always far less varied and extensive as what I have at home. And I sleep so much better than at home as my mind is uncluttered. Your videos remind me of the importance of seeking a less cluttered and more fulfilling existence. Thank you Ron.

A lot of the points you talked about kind of echo what I felt in the early phases of the pandemic but was never really able to put into words. I realized how much “clutter” I had in terms of distractions and commitments and little things that ate up my time without me realizing it, and decided to get off social media. It’s been a couple years but I do not miss it because I’ve been able to find things I genuinely enjoy to take up my time. ❤️

I live a quiet life and I love it, but sometimes life takes over and you find circumstances taking control in ways you hadn’t imagined (as they have in the latter part of this last year for me). However, I found the basis of my life has meant that dealing with the consequences of the difficulties thrown up were far easier to deal with because there were far less distractions to begin with. Thus, the spammers thrown into the works could be dealt with slowly and thoughtfully. It doesn’t mean it was always plain sailing, but I knew who I could rely on for support and that
Living with less had lessened the burden.

It's a interesting point of view. Without thinking about it or planning it, I'm inclined to live a quiet life.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with all of us.
A couple of months ago, I started training my listening with your videos. I'm learning vocabulary, patterns of speaking and minimalism with you.
Thanks again and keep it up!

OMG My sister, who lives in another state than me, (thank goodness) has ALWAYS been a distraction my whole life. Lonely and unhappy with her life, which she mostly caused herself, she calls me 4 or5 times a day just to complain or tell me about her old life. She is causing stress and anxiety to my life everyday.

Why do people who are professing minimalism choose to wear black tshirts? As I look at RUclips, I see that a LOT.
