I don't shoot Fuji anymore but whatever you said made sense. And that's also what it is all about. Like it when people start experimenting like you do. Carry on Thanks for sharing
THANK YOU for that clarity tip. I've been shooting with my x100vi for 2 months now, and have no idea why it was taking so long to process my shots. I was seriously contemplating bringing my xt2 for shoots or going back to my 100f
Thanks for this! I'm going on a more "summery" summer vacation tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to testing out this recipe. I'm more of a RAW shooter and I'm hoping this will make it so that I can shoot in JPEG and not edit, or make a badass base edit!
Finally saw the Sigma 18-50mm with you, and those shots were clean! Can’t wait for your review and to know if you’ll replace your 16-55mm with it (as I’ve did a year ago) - no regrets! Haha
The Sigma is so good. OK you lose 2mm at the wide end, and 5mm at the long end compared to the Fuji 16-55, but that lens is such a fatty! On an X-T5 the Sigma feels far more at home/balanced.
Correct. Lightroom adds the white balance from the camera as a starting point but that can easily be undone. So no problem to adjust your WB, your RAW will not be permanently affected.
I notice with my files that when I change the WB, that change is reflected in the starting point of the RAW file. Of course everyone knows it can be changed, that’s common sense. However if you forget to do that, then you’re starting your edits with the wrong WB. Again not an issue, but can be an extra step to correct it all.
At a guess it’s because it’s significantly smaller and lighter than the Fuji 16-55 so makes a much ‘better’ travel lens. That’s why I picked one up anyway 😂
@@benejpocock That's why it appeals to me too... But since Roman is usually a prime user I was a bit surprised :) Although I wished it was 16-50 instead of 18...
Thank you Roman for this recipe. Great to see you shooting jpeg. For me recipes are what using Fujifilm is all about. As for the white balance, I totally understand your reasoning for using Auto for RAW editing purposes. I will certainly try it at Auto because firstly, you have a whole lot more experience than I do. And secondly, you have tried and tested the recipe for some time. However, as I primarily use Jpeg when shooting, I prefer to use K5600 in sunny conditions. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on this?
Brilliant as always, thanks heaps! Question about white balance though, I understand the part about RAW-files but I'm planning to shoot only JPEGs on my next trip and I'm wondering how you would set the white balans to create the perfect SOOC-photos. Let me know! ✌
That's very cool, love this. To push WB shift to a warmer side (I shoot on XT3, so Pro Neg Std is my option) I need to lift Red to +2 or +3 and lower Blue to -2 or -3, is this correct?
Probably no one asked, but anyway: The reason clarity is so slow is because under the hood it requires blurring the image with a very large blur radius to create something like a mask. That can be slow'ish indeed, however I think Fuji is just using some very suboptimal algorithm, or maybe the camera's GPU is weak, not sure.
It's not just Fuji, it's kinda slow on the Ricoh GR cameras too, except they handle it better: after you take the picture, the preview shows up immediately, then a second or two later the clarity effect appears. You can continue shooting while the camera's processing in the background, although doing this constantly does make the camera quite warm.
Bonjour from France..Great video.. Thanks for sharing... With the pro neg standard.. Which warmth settings woukd recommend for the white balance shift.. Merci
I feel like i have to add two corrections: - WB adjustments do not affect the raw. They are a starting point, but WB is perfectly reversible. If you feel like a WB adjustment helps your jpeg's look, use it. - the DR setting does not provide more dynamic range. It samples shadows, mids and highlights from different iso settings (for the jpeg only) - the equivalent to raising shadows and dropping highlights in post. higher iso's have lower dynamic range though, so if you raise your base iso you always impact the dynamic range in the raw. The DR setting is the ONLY setting I don't touch, and fix at 100, unless I'm 100% sure I will only use the jpegs.
As for the second point I was told the complete opposite before. I will need to test it out again.
DR does indeed affects the RAW files. You can recover much more in the highlights but the shadows are a little bit more noisy. Pal2tech has a great video about it
I was looking for a summer recipe before going on holiday and this came on the right time. Thank you. All these pictures from the video are shooted with Sigma? How do you feel about the lens ?
Great recipe Roman, thanks for sharing. I was wondering, how do you ensure your edited raws will look similar to the jpegs? Do you have an equivalent Lr preset? Thx
Awesome video Roman, thanks for sharing the recipe, never tried creating my own but I might have to give it a go, wish I had the recipe a few weeks ago when I did a street video in Bermuda, street is not my thing but I gave it a go, would love you to check it out. Thanks for sharing. Ps About to upgrade from my XT30 whats your thoughts on the XT5.
Do you have your lcd and evf settings set to match your phone or monitor screen? Was going to play around with it but wasn’t sure what the best approach is.
I don't get why you set that Tone Curve with S+2.... you pictures look exactly the opposite with softer raised shadows. Can someone please explain what I am missing here?
Great video as usual, Roman. I just didn't get the point about the WB. If we use a film simulation/recepie is because we want the jpeg with that particular look and WB definitely change the look a lot. At the same time one of the reason why raw is very helpful, it's because the WB is just a metadata and not affects the file (like exposure and focus). It can be easily adjusted in post. Maybe you meant that you trust your FUjifilm to read always the correct WB for the scene, so you never change it in post (if not for creative choice). There's an interesting approach for WB suggested by Sean Tucker, maybe you watched that video already. ruclips.net/video/eQPPa_8Z13o/видео.html Anyway thanks for sharing your experience as usual and it's great to see a channel like yours getting more exposure every month.

Yeah I was surprised at the point on the WB - as I was under the impression for years that WB was never adjusted on RAW files.

@@snapsbyfox I mean the issue with the DR setting is just that you force the raw to be at a higher iso; there's no degradation beyond that.

Does anyone have Lightroom presets that look like this

DR has nothing to do with the film simulation. It won’t let you select DR400 because your ISO is less than 500 or 640.
