Thanks for the video! I am the owner of the x-t2 and the source quality gets better when the correct white balance and exposure are set for each film. And even with this old camera, I still haven't reached the limit of my abilities.
It is always so refreshing hearing your process and I already knew I gravitated toward you because of your simplistic approach to editing and focus on in camera shooting. It’s funny because I fell in love with photography through the editing process but the more I shoot the more I find it a nuisance. These days I find myself importing directly to my phone and editing from there because it’s simple, quicker and convenient. I still love to edit but it’s your simple approach that I too align with that makes the overall experience so much better. Hope you’re well, Sam!
Thank you for just editing the video without fast cuts or anything flashy. It's a breath of fresh air! And my method to editing is very similar, but I tend to tinker with the highlights and shadows and white balance too much, to get it 'perfect'.
Something I kinda learned from you and that helped me a lot is how important white balance is. I used to shoot in auto wb all the time and many cameras tend to be too cold or lean towards magenta with auto wb. If your eyes aren't that trained yet you just think why does my image look so bad and don't really understand why. Shooting Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten wb instead made my raw files so much better and a better starting point for editing.
Nice take away I had for portraits: starting with the Velvia profile on raws in Lightroom. I've always struggled with getting richer tones in studio portraits, especially with people of color. I started fiddling with that on some existing images, and was impressed that it was easier to pull back the saturation than it is to add saturation with some of the other profiles. Thanks!
Can you do a video like this with the R5 because the raw files in Lightroom completely change from what you shoot in camera. Ide like to know how you deal with that file.
Is it possible to use the JPEG (with appropriate film simulation settings) as a reference image of some sort when editing a RAW file in Lightroom? I’m finding that the “simulated simulations” in Lightroom just don’t quite match those in camera, or what I can see in Camera RAW and am really struggling to get a decent baseline for localised edits. So much so, that I’m considering just working on the JPEG or even switching to Capture One. Your editing process seems so light touch and effortless!
Def feel the same when I got into photography the trend was to really over edit images. I shoot now as simple as possible keeping the image as real true to life as possible
The edited ig story pics you post, usually food, is that from a camera or an iphone edit? Curious about how you edit those and if you use lightroom mobile or similar to get that look?
No idea what lens was used, but if I remember correctly from his Room guide or whatever video, he uses Canon c70 to record his videos with, I might be wrong but I think
This is one I have been waiting for my friend…thank you so much for sharing your insight and being transparent with your process. I’m a huge fan of your work and I also shoot the Fuji system so there is a ton to take away from this video. I really love your simplistic approach and you couldn’t have said it better regarding doing what you can to get as much dialled in camera as possible. Great stuff mate! 🤌🏼
@@SamuelElkinsPhoto Makes sense! I am invested in X system lenses and had a Hasselblad X2D as well. May go all in with Fuji as the combination of APSC and Medium Format with the same color science is really practical ☺️
I have both and I kept Lightroom. I find it easier to use (I'm only an enthusiast and C1 is apparently more for the pros and stuff, didn't like it). The only pb with LR is how it renders the Fuji RAWs but there are tools to sharpen the files nicely.
hey sam, im a huge fan and im in the market for a upgrade on my equipment so i hope you dont mind me asking. if you had choice, would you get a R5 or GFX system (50s ii) ?
so tough - i think if you want to do any sort of video work r5 all the way because it's a very capable video + photo cam. gfx is very niche and tough to use at times if you need a faster camera or more video centric features.
If fuji released an X100 with real manual focus with a distance scale, I'll sell my M10-P. The colors on the M10 is too coop and is a pain to edit for a casual shooter.
Hey I ve got a question: what editing software do you use when editing fujifilm photos? I ve seen online that lightroom doesn t handle the fuji sensor very well and it affects the sharpness of the image.

absolutley! great to get everything dialed in before you start shooting. makes the editing process that much easier
I just want to appreciate the choice of warm tones on the yt video. It feels good)

How you set the white balance when you are shooting? Thank you, Sam.

Interested in this as well!
Always love your colors, this really is and interesting episode Sam

Hey Sam, could you do a video using the Sony ZV-1.. I love your style and want to see what the camera is capable of. Thanks
Great info. How did you get the recipes into LR??? Heard you had to use fujis version of LR…
Soon 200k, well deserved Samuel!!
Thank you!
Any Capture One or Fuji X vids?

How to get the best colors: “I barely edit”. Sick dude, very helpful.
Sam comes off as a D-Bag
This guy has never been helpful
Great information! Looking forward to the lighting set-up videos.
Would love to see you doing a review on Leica SL2 + APO-Summicron-SL lenses

So, are you saying that it is easier to adjust colors in raw images if you adjust the jpeg the way you like it in the camera? Thanks Sam! Geoff

Hey Samuel, how do you export your pics/vids to keep the same quality?
Great video! Keep up the great work!

What do you prefer as your daily driver? The XT5 or actually the GFX100S?
gfx for most things, xt5 for a small compact but practical setup

Great video. I like how simple you keep your edits. But the warmth in your images you add it with temperature or sometime you use the split tone?
sometimes split tone, sometimes temp adjustment. it all really depends on the look i'm going for
Hey Sam and others, about to buy my first Fuji - your thoughts on Capture One vs LightRoom. You obviously do just fine with LR
I have both and I kept Lightroom. I find it easier to use (I'm only an enthusiast and C1 is apparently more for the pros and stuff, didn't like it). The only pb with LR is how it renders the Fuji RAWs but there are tools to sharpen the files nicely.

What bag is that at 1:43?
Sam has a dedicated video for his 3 backpacks
I think it is Shimoda X Series. But not sure it is x30 , x50 or x70.
yup shimoda
As always, dope video my friend!
Also you left 3 minutes of black at the end haha
Yup just fixed it lol
great video
And they said the Rode PodMic isn't a side address mic...
😆
I just asked this on your q&a yesterday lol😅
just so you know the last couple minutes are blank!
thank you! just fixed lol
There is also a small section at the beginning where you do a couple of different takes - think you would have put an edit in to take one out?
