People seem to have forgotten that the government work for us, and it is not only acceptable but necessary for us to tell them what to do, not the other way round. I think people would be surprised to know that the public service actually appreciate hearing strong community voices giving them direction, and in my experience that is often because they do not have that from within.
I would also say, my family have fished and hunted for thousands of years and we have the human right to continue if we choose to do so, regardless of where we might be living.

Our cause has people way too proud and we only come together ‘when the blade touches the bone.’ Everyone can play a part it’s the ones who aren’t brought or accepted in that can hold a grudge or be treated as God told us to treat each other to come together, work together, supporting the cause more than just ourselves.

Thankyou Mark for all your efforts to highlight the real problem that we have here in Western Australia. The new laws just passed are the result of the general complacency of the gun owning community’s failure to refuse to be seriously become involved in a organised way to push back against the current government. I can honestly say I have tried to encourage interest among my contacts to come together in a organised way only to be met with indifference, lack of interest, “you can but I am too busy”, apathy, “I don’t do that, that’s not my thing”and the list goes on. Our failure to organise ourselves and all come together in a united way is not only this matter but seems to have become the norm concerning the shooting community,we are just too busy to care. You just have to look at the farming community as they are being constantly attacked by the current Labor party in its so called idealistic socialist policies and their organised response and fight back. If only we were like them. So BE WARNED those of you who live in the rest of this great land of Australia, take special note, it will ALSO be coming after you too very soon, so WAKE UP and get organised, DON’T WAIT as you can now see it is too late for us.

I feel for you Mark . Stay strong and thank you for sharing with us. They do they same thing here in the USA and blame the object or tool. No matter what they do they will never be able to legislate morality or stop mental illness. If they lay blame elsewhere they avoid responsibility for their short comings of ignoring the warning signs like those that the family gave before the tragedy. The strength we have in numbers is amazing , unfortunately we need to be willing to sacrifice ourselves / time/money/sanity and comfort for our beliefs. Most will cut and run the first time they make an example of the first one who opposes them just so the rest fall in line. I believe that if we see an injustice and do nothing about it then we are accepting and condoning it. Everyone that experiences an attack on their liberties and accepts this one small loss of freedom - needs to ask themselves "What will I accept the next time?" People think that it's only one time , it won't be that bad, until they realize they took it all and you never noticed it until it's all gone. People never acknowledge how much harder it is to get something BACK instead of fighting for it and holding on to it while you have it. We "ALL "need to do better for each other!

I worked for government my entire life. What I really despised was a subtle corruption that I noticed from govt officials. They'd often try to pass rules, regulations, restrictions, etc that did no good for the public, but it perpetuated their job or gave them a slightly increased chance at promotion. Of course they'd have some semi-defendable reason why they created additional regulations, but if any in-depth reasoning was performed, the justification would collapse.

The local community group ran a day at the range for kids as well recently, which was a big success. Anyone can shoot at a range without a license. Drag your non shooter mates along to show them how much fun it is. The masses got scared because of one incident, they just need to be shown the other side.

Mark, We’re under the same pressure here in the US also. While the US Supreme Court seems to be very conservative and sort of on the gun owner’s side, our two presidential candidates are both anti gun guys! Biden is a Democrat and is honestly trying to get higher gun control legislation passed, his party has had this idea for decades, no surprise! Trump is a Republican and should be pro gun, however he was a registered Democrat until a few years ago when he decided to run for president before the 2016 Election. His son convinced him to change his mind on guns because he’d need their votes. Long story short, Trump decided to run as a Republican because he strategized he’d be able to infiltrate and take over the much weakened and divided Republican Party, which he did. In 2017, when he became president, there were a couple of bills that had been written and could’ve been passed in short order to repay gun owners for their support and votes but the powers in charge paused on the bills for millions of voters and the Reciprocity Bill and HPA were shelved for later… In other words, thanks for your votes but a national law recognizing every state’s gun licenses, just like driver licenses, medical licenses, and so forth as well as the HPA for suppressors, still haven’t been brought up again! And to top that off, it was Trump’s suggestion to the ATF to outlaw AR-15 bump stocks. This has just been overturned by the Supreme Court but people were told in 2017 that these were illegal and they were ordered to turn them over to the ATF for destruction or they could cut them up themselves… Everyone that owned them simply removed them and put them away and waited for better days!
Anyways, Biden or Trump, gun owners are in trouble! Biden’s truthful about wanting to take away people’s rights and Trump’s saying whatever his supporters want to hear! Trump’s also claiming he wants to be a dictator and that he likes Russian President Putin!
Yes, the 2024 USA Elections are the scariest I can remember because, either way, I fear the government will be taking away our rights and imposing their vision of the future, all the while saying, “It’s for the greater good!”
All I can say is keep both eyes open and read the fine print!
    Take care and be well!

I really hope that people can get proactive enough to stop this garbage going through in its current form. I personally think that the new regulations will be so difficult to manage that it will need to be sidelined - a bit like what happened with the poorly thought out Cultural Heritage Laws. It took 12 years to remove my father's shotgun from my licence after he had handed it in , in 1997/98. After many, many phone calls! I gave up in the end and yes it was finally remove, 12 years later! My father had passed away by then.

There is a possible way forward and it is happening and has been happening for a little while. Both major parties are losing votes, it is imperative we keep that going, there is nothing democratic about the present two party preferred system of governance. At this stage it doesn't matter which independent you vote for as long as you are voting independent and marking all the boxes below the line placing ALP/LNP last. The first job is to diminish the two party preferred system then we can decide how Australia should be governed after that.

Todays trend goverment be left or right to over react to cover their failure to administer the systems that are already in place.
The administrators and enforcement failures just seem to get away with incompetence and inaction and the goverment trend to de fund and privatise let alone depopulate. Taking the easy way out for example forcing face to face interactions out of the mix to basically save money. Blanket bans are just a cover for their incompetence. Sadly this is rarely focused on hard enough IMHO.The laws in place today and for the past 10 years if run properly would have stopped any of these problems.

Apply for a PTA in QLD ,and you later get an Email claiming you didnt provide enough information in your PTA [there is NO provision to provide further information ] then,'' Why cannot this need be satisfied with what you already own ? ''if you dont reply within 14 days your PTA will be cancelled ,this is what we have to look forward to with everything in future !! like under Communism ,total control over what you can and cannot own ,will be the death knell for manufacturers and Gunshops .

SSAA magazine.. All firearm disciplines need this mag as a platform. It's established, can reach every person, code and club in Australia. Needs to be organised and shared content instead of separated magazines for PA/ISSF, Rifle etc as an example. A first step for all hunters/athletes and all the codes in Australia to learn together and strengthen together as one group/community.

Maybe have the stats of where police have failed their citizens in the background Mark and how many deaths involved. Here in NSW we had gangs simply posting Glocks to Australia. No point to gun laws if criminals aren’t going to obey them.

The best thing to hear a politician say is "I really dont want to do this but I am being forced to stand up and take action"
You sir are ready to represent the people.
I trust you because you dont want to.
I dont want a career politician, I want somebody who has been forced to depart from his life and do the job because they could no longer stand for it.
We are all waiting for "the One"
This has implications far beyond firearms.

@@markandsamafterwork Very inspiring. In fact after watching this I have decided to skip the range time today and go to politically themed BBQ where I was invited to see what else I can do to get our state rid of there blood sucking and self serving government. Also forwarded this to a few friend in 4WD and fishing clubs. I suggest that everyone watching this channel trying doing the same. As Mark said, complaining to your friends who are most likely on your side does absolutely nothing. So let's make a real difference.

I'm really concerned about how many conversations I've had with people who say they are comfortable with being over-governed.
People in Australia have forgotten about the "lucky free country" we USED TO have and are quite happy to have big government think and act for them.
In my opinion, things got worse during COVID. It's almost like people have had a spell cast over them or something and they're too afraid to think for themselves!

Very well put. Factual, named some aspects of your problems, and offered reasonable solutions. You are correct in mentioning that individuals have to make their opinions heard, and definitely politely, but loudly. Here in the US we are facing a similar set of situations with restrictions on farm use of fertilizers, water rights and consumption, having EV's pushed on the market with limited interest and less infrastructure to support them, of course fire arms, use of public lands. I for one like your thoughts and comments, tho I admit that I am as unfamiliar with your regulations as you may be of those here in the states. The central issue is in your header. "government for Government Sake." Thanks for your thoughts.

I share your pain I am a government employee and are concerned how this will end. First it was the large calibres, now a defined number of firearms with rumours of a new safe code we must comply with. Next who knows what will be on the chopping block. Keep up the good work.
