  • Jannis, Ilias & Emmanuel join us for chat, playing and fun!
Welcome to the show! We are delighted to welcome our great friends Jannis Anastasakis, Ilias Pantoleon and Emmanuel Vourakis from JAM Pedals to Schwangri-La.
Regular viewers will know that we have a special relationship with JAM, not least because of our collaboration on the Harmonious Monk pedal. Its very existence is evidence of the deep respect we have for the inspirational art and craft that emanates from their facility in Athens, Greece.
While they were visiting the UK to see Blur at Wembley and take in a few dealers along the way, we thought it would be only proper to get them into the studio to talk… and play!
There are English language captions available if you find Jannis (or me and Dan) hard to understand.
The first track Jannis plays at 0:35 is a version of the track 'Agrypnia' by Greek songwriter Thanasis Papakonstantinou
You can see more of Jannis' personal music stuff at www.jannisanastasakis.com
Jannis also mentions an artist with whom he plays; Dan and I attended a gig. The artist is Michalis Siganidis.
    Enjoy the show!

I’m very glad I don’t have Jannis’ skills and creativity to loop like that otherwise I’d lock myself in a room with a lot of gear, stop eating, sleeping or showering and I’d play until I die. That was VERY special.

What a ruddy brilliant episode. All the JAM guys seem incredible (whether it's their playing, or their vision like Jannis) and I think it's beautiful that you guys get to have a relationship with them and that you get to partake in that experience. Really just wonderful stuff to see two parties who just want the best for the product come together in this way. Also, I have to say, when I decide to graduate to 'big guitar' (bass) for music making purposes, I want to play just like you Mick - your perception of space, the pocket you fill, it's all just beautiful. Really thoroughly enjoyed watching you play bass at the end!

Honestly, this all gives me a big giant flashback to that time I first picked up a guitar and just made sounds. Couldn't play a chord or knew a note, but music was made. Almost a shame, that 20 so years past that day, all the knowledge sometimes keeps me from making the music again. True words to Jannis saying that, if you truly let go, things might just open up. Please keep doing these shows, its so much more then just the pedalgeeking! Thanks!

My listening tastes range from Delta/Piedmont blues to singer-songwriter to southern rock to pop. When I hear etherial soundscapes, I love it and want to play it. I want to get swept away on a modulated wave of emotional presence. Yet, I think it requires a greater ability than I have to simultaneously hold the big picture and details in mind. Jannis is amazing at this and I'm sure this broad yet detailed approach explains why JAM makes such amazing pedals. Yet another wonderful TPS episode. (2 hours next time please 😜)
