Oh how I dream of mudlarking with Fluer, Kate and Family and Friend. They are all Gems on this earth. I am in awe of all the History and Joy they bring to all. We who are able to watch their adventures are Blessed.
Love the little blue bottle, but I would clean it where every little detail in the glass sparkled. Do you think it could have contained smelling sauce (salts? what ever it was called )
Considering what kind of tools glass blowers had in those times in the past, that tiny cobalt blue bottle was made by a man at the peak of the industry's skilled labor, meaning he must have been extremely talented to be able to make such a tiny bottle! And the fact that it survived all this time, also attests to his skill!
I Truely Love you, Fluer and Kate. The enjoyment you bring into people's living rooms and lives should not be taken lightly. Please never lose your enthusiasm for this wonderful hobby or your expression of that joy. You never fail to uplift and encourage us, simply by being unafraid to have fun and making us a part of it. I am grateful. : ) Fave finds, hand-twirled bead and mini blue bottle.
Hello, My 7 year old granddaughter, who loves your programme, and I have just been watching your latest video. I was so thrilled when you found the Union Castle ship price of crockery. As a girl and young lady I travelled on many Union Castle ships in the 60’s and 70’s between Southampt and Cape Town, stopping at Madeira and Las Palmas to restock. They were beautiful ships and in those days you would meet many characters with stories to tell. True travellers. We lived o. The sea front in Cape Town and every Wednesday and Saturday morning we would see the castle ships appear on the horizon. Always on time after travelling so far. A magic era long gone. What a find. 😁😁🥰🇬🇧🌷
That tiny blue bottle is amazing and I don't blame Kate for being speechless when she found it! The pencil sharpener is so decorative, I love how ornate simple things were back then, truly a treasure...
My maternal great-grand aunt’s husband, John Brown (1843 -1923) was a sea captain who sailed for the Castle Line. He was captain of the sailing ship the Tantallon Castle between the UK and South Africa and the East Indies, he also sailed between the UK and New York. I heard many things about his adventures from my Mom over the years (he died the year before Mom was born) but I learned much more fron news articles. He was responsible for rescuing the passengers of several ships over his career. He came across a foundering ship off the coast of South Africa and took the passengers and crew aboard before the ship sank. While he was returning to Capetown with those he had rescued, he came across another ship where the crew was fighting to fix a hole in the hull. He and his crew helped to make a temporary fix and stayed with her until the were able to get into port to make repairs. Upon returning to Liverpool to drop off the passengers and crew from the first ship, that he rescued, he then sailed for New York. Returning from New York, he came across the ship “Mary Stetson” which was sinking. He pulled the passengers to safety and returned them to New York. For this rescue, he was awarded a gold chronometer by President Ulysses S. Grant! How I wish I had known him!!
The Castle Lines had ships like Tantallon Castle whose first incarnation was as a sailing ship. When steamships came about many of the ships were retired and were replaced with steamships which inherited the names of the older ships. Such was the case of the Tantallon Castle. I have a copy of a drawing of her as the sailing ship that he would have known.
Your treasure beach never disappoints! What a precious little bottle..my imagination sees secret poisoner slipping this in a pocket..every thing you find has such intriguing history/ possibilities..a fine lady may have kept that sharpener on her desk while she kept up her correspondence..delightful to hear your laughter! Can't wait for more!
Wonderful truely wonderful that tiny blue bottle and the pencil sharpener. I thought at first it may have been a candle snuffer but could'nt work out why it would have a slit in the back. The tall ink was very nice too and so many soldier parts. I agree the tiny face has a huge bearskin hat!! Stay safe you lot and where's our Sunny lately???
I’m just going to take a moment to admire Kates beautiful autumnal colours. She always wears the most gorgeous colours that compliment her red hair perfectly. Also, Fleur wears a skirt, a SKIRT, mudlarking. Not only that, she manages to looks relaxed and comfortable. Me? I would be tripping over it every time I squatted down, ripping it, the wind would blow it over my head first gust, I would get it soggy any where near water. As for doing sneaky loo stops in the wild…. Nope. Another great video. One day I’ll send you a video of me mudlarking my beach…. That’ll be a very short one! Xxxx
That tiny light green bead looked like a bird's head. The pointy bit the beak and the hole its eye. Perhaps it was just the way you had it in our hand. Always a fascinating time to share your searches.
My Dad was a member of the Ship Society he collected ship postcards from the Union Castle Line many were called the Mail Ship sailing from Southampton to Cape Town and return many people sailed on holiday or emigration to South Africa. As a kid we would go to the docks and wave goodbye lots of blowing of the horn and streamers being thrown from the deck to folk on the warf. I have so many wonderful memories. Love from Cape Town the Pendenis Castle was the Ship on which my husband sailed to Cape Town lovely finds so exciting.
What I stunning find with this tiny blue bottle. It’s amazing…but this little bunny head is so cute….I’m trying to imagine what the complete figure looks like. Thanks as always for this heartwarming journey
How cool I have always loved England Scotland and Ireland and it’s super cool that at 67 I have friends over there across the big pond I’m from South Ga USA love y’all
The small cobalt bottle and Victorian pencil sharpener are truly magnificent finds. I’m so glad you recovered those beautiful and historical relics❤. The bunny head looks like perhaps a Peter the Rabbit bit from a toy or mug. So many fascinating finds. Thank you for taking us along with you. Truly can’t wait to see where you’ll take us next time!!
I was born in South Africa, brought up in Zambia and Zimbabwe and then married an Irish man at the age of 19. We will be 48 years married in August. The cheapest way to travel back in the day was by sailing rather than flying. We sailed from Cape Town to South Hampton on the Edinburgh Castle. We arrived in the snow and it was my first time to experience it and I was so excited. Thank you for bringing back some amazing memories from your incredible finds. Thanks also for sharing your adventures!
It’s a happy day when I receive a notification that you have uploaded a video on either of your lovely channels. I subscribe to many different channels, but yours are my favourite, and I honestly believe it’s because of your genuine passion and excitement that is so evident in everything you do. The tiny blue bottle is beyond adorable💙what a brilliant discovery!
Grandmotherly comments coming😀😃Kate you looked extra lovely today and made that outfit look nice. Those are definitely your colors..they compliment your hair. I would love to see you wear something light pink ( summer material) and light moss green for late spring and summer. I have a feeling you would look nice in these colors also. (Blue too) Fleur you had 2 real good finds..little round bottle and sharpener. WOW ADORABLE Cobalt tiny bottle!! WOW AGAIN beautiful green shelf full of FUN FINDS!! EXCEPTIONAL shelf. Would love you to tell us where you found it and how long you ve had it. Wondered if you both found it while out and about together in 1 of your charity shops?? Did you get a good bargin which makes things like that Extra fun.
I never realized my beloved Dover Castle (spent many hrs there as a child as my grandparents lived in Dover) had a ship named for it. Such a cool thing to learn.
When you first found that pencil sharpener I thought for sure it would have been a key of some sort, like to wind a clock or open an intricate box or something. Prettiest sharpener I've ever seen for sure!
That tiny blue bottle and the stylish Potter and Moore bottle make great additions to your wonderful small bottle collection, loved the display cabinet. Kate, your shred story brought back memories of my (Ian) childhood days in Rhodesia in the late 1950s. Post to England went either by sea or airmail, the former being cheaper postage and always via the Union Castle ships. Envelopes had to be marked SEAMAIL! Liked the small pencil sharpener, unusual.
Amazing finds. As a history nerd, my best guess is that the Victorian pencil sharpener was hanging from a woman’s chatelaine. And now I also want one to hang in mine.
The small bottle reminds me of one I seen as a child ...it had a glass rod attached to the lid ( or how ever it was attached to the top ) ...the rod was used to put the perfume behind the ear...hope you find out the real use of such a small bottle..a true treasure
The pencil sharpener is lovely! As soon as you found it I thought it looked like a sharpener, it makes me happy that I guessed right! You both found wonderful things today! Please be careful and stay safe! ❤❤
The tiny bottle is amazing. And I guessed right on the pencil sharpener! The lovely little face that Kate found - it wasn't in the wrap up. It looked like it could be made into a wonderful pendant with a bit of sanding around the edge and then mounted in a silver back. Perhaps it is something you could ask Alex or Gail to do for you if you wanted?
What an exciting array of such lovely finds. I'm happy for you both. Loved your tiny bottle collection. So pretty. Plus all the inks you have. Who'd of thought there were so many types of bottles to contain ink. I'm now very excited to see what you found next. 😊 x
I love the pencil sharpener, proof that there was a time when people made even the most utilitarian things beautiful. I have a thought, regarding the tiny blue bottle: The term ‘Dram’ comes to mind,I do not recall if it is a term of measurement or a style of bottle. I wonder if this is an old dram of ‘smelling salt’,used for reviving women who fainted,at a time when women were believed to be prone to that thing called ‘hysteria’.
Kate and Fluer wonderful lark, I was wondering could that little rabbit be an eraser? Anyway, nice items found and that tiny blue bottle so crazy to have been intact. Love all of your finds. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
What a wonderful larking day both of you girls had today. So many cool finds, Kate's beautiful little bottle, and Fleur your pencil sharpener!!! I do so wish that I lived in England. Take care girls. ♥️🧓🌺
Lovely to see your bottle and stopper collections. I’m wondering if you sometimes pair up random stoppers with bottles? The pencil sharpener is so nice 💐
❤Oh how I Love your videos, And the finds, Kate I collect tiny bottles too, Love your blue bottle, Fleur your pencil ✏️ sharpener is very interesting to me. Thank You so much🌷🌻🏵️🙋♀️see you soon
That little blue bottle you found I have seen one like that before and what it was used for was heart medicine that went under your tongue if your heart began to race. Now I could be wrong but that is what I remember. Love your show girls. ❤❤❤❤❤😊😊
I guessed it, I guessed it! As soon as you turned it round I thought it was a pencil sharpener. I'm a couch mudlarker! Love yalls videos. How I wish I could fly over from Tennessee in the States and go out larking with you young ladies. One can dream!
Love your Sherd Stories -- especially this week's history and the breadth and depth of the ship line. What is the fluid capacity of the cobalt blue bottle? The Victorian pencil sharpener is so ornate. Wonderfilled mudlark. Thank you both.
I am only seeing one of the two coins found sitting on the table 🤔 That tiny cobalt is as cute as can be 😃 I've yet to find an ink bottle, I'm in Texas though so I guess that's to be expected 😕
Oh how I dream of mudlarking with Fluer, Kate and Family and Friend. They are all Gems on this earth. I am in awe of all the History and Joy they bring to all. We who are able to watch their adventures are Blessed.
Totally agree
Yes!❤
Yes totally agree 😊
Love the little blue bottle, but I would clean it where every little detail in the glass sparkled. Do you think it could have contained smelling sauce (salts? what ever it was called )
The conversations are just as precious as the finds

The tiny rabbit reminded me of a jigsaw puzzle piece. The type in a wooden try with cut out shapes 😊

I notice all the fantastic rocks too
Every time I see a small cobalt bottle it always reminds me of Evening in Paris. What great finds!
I think every little girl my age remembers seeing a tiny little cobalt blue Evening in Paris bottle in our grandma's safe keeping box.
That tiny blue bottle is amazing and I don't blame Kate for being speechless when she found it! The pencil sharpener is so decorative, I love how ornate simple things were back then, truly a treasure...
Another delightful episode
Your "pewter plate" seal might also make a pretty sun dial for the garden. Lots of lovely finds.
The blue bottle and sharpener were the best finds. Love the way you have your bottle collection on display. It was a nice treat to see.

I remember the Union Castle ships docking in Cape Town when I was a young girl
It looks like the Leasowe Castle has dazzle camouflaging paint, which is really a fascinating subject to study.
Wonderful truely wonderful that tiny blue bottle and the pencil sharpener. I thought at first it may have been a candle snuffer but could'nt work out why it would have a slit in the back. Nice finds as always.
The bottle was waiting for Kate to rescue it. She knew you would treasure her😊
Ohh that little blue bottle has seen some things. And probably has a story to tell

There is a new show from the US I believe called Citadel, in last night's episode they had a quick scene while mudlarking on the Thames (I think).
I love the pencil sharpener, proof that there was a time when people made even the most utilitarian things beautiful.
I have a thought, regarding the tiny blue bottle:
The term ‘Dram’ comes to mind,I do not recall if it is a term of measurement or a style of bottle.
I wonder if this is an old dram of ‘smelling salt’,used for reviving women who fainted,at a time when women were believed to be prone to that thing called ‘hysteria’.
