I like that kit. I used a flat point soldering iron with regular staples and melted zip ties to fix a plastic nose cone for the rub rail on my boat. It was a small job and worked well but with what you had to fix the kit looked to do the job! With the freezing temps on the lake the last few days, this was a good fill in vid!
You caught me. I haven’t been able to get on the water in 2 weeks. This weather is NOT cooperating…so boat maintenance video to the rescue. …and I admire that ingenuity!
Great informative video. There's no telling how many people don't think they could do this fix themselves.. End up letting it get worse or just get rid of it. Great video as always!
Great info buddy, I had heard that the landing gear was a problem and that's why I went with a trailer instead. A lot more to haul around, but I can use it for other stuff too.
This is my one complaint about the Old Town. I have a trailer as well, but for me having to launch a trailered kayak from a boat ramp kinda defeats the purpose of a kayak. The beauty of the kayak is you can launch anywhere. If Old Town ever hires me as a spokesperson, my first order of business will be correcting this landing gear situation. Haha.
Yep, their videos only show the strap-on wheels. I think they should make the adjustment for the mounted ones for sure. I throw my other kayaks in the truck, but that 120 is more than I want to wrestle with.
Not a bad weld, you can ask Old Town and they'll send you plastic to match your kayak. You demonstrated why I won't be putting the landing gear on my 120 though. Just too much weight for something like that. Maybe they will add foam reinforcements down that back seam in the future and some tracks.
It never occurred to me to ask OT for matching plastic. I’ll have to remember that for the next time I destroy my boat. Haha. And that’s my one complaint about the OT-it is NOT designed for landing gear. And I HATE carts. With a passion. I think all of these larger, heavy kayaks should be designed to allow some kind of landing gear installation. Landing gear makes kayak ownership so much more enjoyable.
Hey man how you doing? I am sorry to hear about your problems with your kayak man. That really really Sucks man. I just glad that it is Fixable. That was a good job you did for first time doing. I hope & pray 🙏 that it holds up very well for you. If you can please keep me updated on this man. I am very interested on how it turns out for you. Good video on watching you fix your kayak man. I enjoyed watching this. See you next weekend buddy.
Yeah dude, the only reinforced park is the power pole mount. That's really it. That breaks my heart to see but I am happy you were able to use that kit. I have thought about getting a plastic and legit welder to step up my travel game.
There is a larger plastic plate that’s on the back. The issue is the area that it mounts to is not flat…so it’s impossible to get the backing plate to sit flush. It’s just not a design that’s conducive to landing gear. The long term plan is to add some support to that horizontal “bar”. That should help distribute the load during both lift and torque.
Hey Josh how does Wylie look? Coming from Lyman, SC and everything around here is still pretty dirty - just trying to save a trip up Tuesday If bad - Thanks

It was WAY easier than I was anticipating. So easy, even a fisherman could do it. Haha.
Good job my friend. Wanting to get landing gear myself, still researching on how to brace it. I got the pdl106.
I love landing gear, but proceed with caution.

Boat maintenance just comes with the territory. Plus, the problem was all my own doing. I’m just happy you came along for the ride.
Looks like will work hope it holds up 👍
So far as good. But I’ve also been pretty delicate with it.

I said it in the video: the lack of a landing gear option is my only complaint about the old town. I absolutely love everything else.
Great video I have to do the same thing on my yak
It’s VERY easy to do. Way easier than I was expecting. And if you decide to buy a kit, use my link in the description and show the channel some love.
You need a backing plate for the landing gear or it will do it again.

At least you didn't try to do a Wish repair kit video! Although it could have been interesting!
Interesting, BUT dangerous. Haha.

All good. It’s still a little stained, but very fishable.
Great video Josh! Very informative. All those heavy cats last year stressed it too much! HA. Tight lines brother!
I hadn’t considered that, but that must be what it is: all those big cats and NOT the extra 15 I’ve gained since getting married. Haha.
I have the same kit. I call it plastic stitches 😂
