"Learning to Fly" is a song by written by David Gilmour, Anthony Moore, Bob Ezrin, and Jon Carin. It was the first single from the band's thirteenth studio album A Momentary Lapse of Reason. The lyrics describe Gilmour's thoughts on flying, for which he has a passion (being a licensed pilot with multiple ratings),[citation needed though it has also been interpreted as a metaphor for beginning something new, experiencing a radical change in life, or, more specifically, Gilmour's feelings about striking out as the new leader of Pink Floyd after the departure of Roger Waters. The track was regularly performed live on the band's two post-Roger Waters tours, with touring guitarist Tim Renwick playing the song's guitar solos (although David Gilmour played the solos on the studio version of the track).

In Nick Mason's book he mention's that's part of why they hired him. Besides loving his energy they were aware of the fact that they weren't exactly animated showmen on the stage and figured that would help up the energy of the shows.
I suppose some people like that and I don't have a problem with it especially since the Floyd obviously thought it was good for the show. But to me it comes across like the guy is trying to be the show, upstaging Nick. And are we supposed to be impressed by his ability to jump three inches off the stage to hit a cymbal? No thanks. Not my thing. The music itself is good enough not to require such antics.
@@kevinlyons7351 I understand not liking it but I think you're misunderstanding his motive. That was just the guy's energy on-stage whether he's playing with Pink Floyd or not and they brought him in specifically to do that. Nick mentioned it specifically in his book and made a crack about how looked like bored old men up there or something. I'm not sure why they thought that, they had a solid reputation as a band and were just as well known for their entertaining effects and their big screen. My husband, Captain Gabriel James Fernandez, passed away, his brother sent me the lyrics to this song…….he was a pilot since 16 ran old, flew 36 yrs NWA (now Delta)….. he had 6 airplanes, was flying his RV4 when he had a massive hemorrhagic stroke, could not talk to control tower, he brought the plane down safely, taxied to his hanger…….he avoided 100+. 737’s that were parked at Boeings area on Paine Field, he somehow managed to land safely, he died shortly after. This Pink Floyd Song….. learning to fly gives me such comfort, I listen to it often♥️♥️
I had the honor to see the Division Bell tour at the CNE Grandstand in Toronto, Ontario from the 17th row center stage in 1994 before it was torn down, before I started to play guitar. I watched David Gilmour, change a broken string in the middle of a song, it was one of my memories and it was undoubtedly the best concert I have ever seen, it was funny how I got the ticket. My boss's friend camped out for 3 days waiting to buy tickets to one of the two shows announced. When he got need the ticket counter both shows were sold out, but as luck would have it they announced a third show, so he was able to buy 4 floor tickets, he came by the shop to show them off to my boss, he walked in and said ha ha look what I got, I got 4 tickets to Pink Floyd and threw them on my bosses desk, my boss laughed picked up two of them and threw $200 dollars on the desk and laughed and said, "No, you only have two tickets to Pink Floyd"
Among other things in this clip, that has to be the best sounding, best looking backing vocals line up ever. Sam Brown, Durga McBroom and Claudia Fontaine, RIP.

Love pink Floyd from France
This is the song that made me want to be a musician. Guy Pratt!❤
One of best without any question. So relaxing and calm that bring me peace every time I put it in my player
Espectacular!
Gary Wallis is a beast on percussion playing this masterpiece.
From the day it was released till now PULSE has not only been one of my favorite live album/videos ever. There were some days it was my pep rally before the shower and work thing. I'm 62 and I have loved the Floyd as long as I can remember.
Pink Floyd songs give me an eargasm...'Learning To Fly'..an incredibly good song.
Beautiful backing singers what a great show
A melhor banda da história da música!
Gilmour és gigante!

Слушать и восхищаться можно бесконечно!!! PF на все времена, вселенская музыка
PF is absolutely amazing here, backing girls and all, no band comes near this commitment on stage.

45 years for me.
Just a stellar live performance of another Pink Floyd masterpiece. Sometimes I just don't have the words.
The light show!!!!!! Everything about this is GREAT!!! I love this.

Yeeeh, the best group of all time forever and ever.
Such a great band and this song is one of their best- post Waters
Among other things in this clip, that has to be the best sounding, best looking backing vocals line up ever. Sam Brown, Durga McBroom and Claudia Fontaine, RIP.
