  • KERRRRAZY!!! This song was a trip, and incredibly complex! Should we do the live one now?

      You're right, and there are better lyric videos for this song. This is one of them, ruclips.net/video/MBqYWNQ_lmY/видео.html, the sound quality is better, and you can easily see the lyrics.

    You made a wrong decision. This video is for fans, for those who know this song through and through, it’s dedicated for 10th anniversary of their album (this year by the way). But you can fix this by watching live version [ASAP] :), and you’ll understand why that one suits better for a first time reaction. Cheers guys

    So this song is off the album Design Your Universe. This album is 10 yrs old and one of their favorites both for the band and the fans. Because of this, Epica has remastered that album and re-releasing it as a gold edition. They are also doing a tour to commemorate but only 3 dates in North America (LA, NYC and Montreal). I'm taking my wife to the Montreal show. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM!!!

    Epica is the band that introduced me to Metal.
    Though, apart from Nightwish, I grew away from Symphonic Metal, but they're still a delight to listen to from time to time.

    This song is the longest one from their 4th album Design Your Universe which was released 2009 and one of the band's most popular records, a lot of fans think this one is their best CD and as a 10th Aniversary the band re-remastered the album and added acoustic versions of some songs. On October theyre gonna tour to some specific cities of the world promoting the album again.
    Since this record Epica started wroting lyrics about quantum physics in a philosophical and spiritual way. I suggest you to try other albums like The Quantum Enigma and The Holographic Principle which keep the quantum physics topic in some songs. The guitarrist and leader Mark Jansen write most of the lyrics but Simone Simons write some too. They topics are about religions, politics, society, philosophy, metaphysics, quantum physics, life and self wrowth, mostly.

    • @spupydo
      @spupydo 5 лет назад

      Actually Simone has written almost half of Epica lyrics. She wrote 6 songs from Design Your Universe.

    I might be completely wrong. I think the message draws inspiration from Spinoza, who was one of the most famous philosophers. Einstein, a "atheist" for example believed in Spinoza's god.
    Spinoza idea very simplistically was that god has to exist, and that nature is god. What that means is that entire universe is "god", and so obviously all of us are part of god. Conciousness is part of a collective "conciousness" of god, same way as bodies are physically part of the universe. 'Mislead by science', might mean that as science progresses we move really fast away from religions, but it 'misleads' us to think there is no spirituality/religion and that leads us to think universe is just uncaring cold harsh place with no meaning.
    I think when they use latin, buddhist enlightenment, concept of heaven etc. was to show that they can all converge into this 'new idea' for spirituality, and that while we have to move away from old religions, we will still need some form of spirituality and meaning in life with positive ideals. "science and spirituality has to meet along the way".
    I think the dude in the video was in 'heaven' and had to go back to unite the people, kind of like a messiah or something.
    I assume 100% of that is completely wrong, since i am sure somewhere is a video of them explaining the lyrics, but that what i took from it. :)

    • @nimedhel09
      @nimedhel09 5 лет назад +1

      I do not know if they took their idea from Spinoza, but they did take heavy inspiration from buddhism in a lot of the concepts they talked about in the song. I think mainly about the idea of reincarnation, the fact that we are all connected and ought to live in harmony with nature, etc.

    Kinda glad you picked doing the lyric video. Simone is a little awkward in it, but honestly I prefer this to the "live" video people ask for.
    Honestly this song, for me: it's either studio version or actually seeing it live in PERSON. Otherwise you're not getting the full impact of it. This is one of the best Epica songs. It is considered a fan favorite.

    Hey guys! I really get so much new awsome music from you guys! I’m sitting here and thinking.. what is the ultimate live song that I know.. i love nightwish and all that. But here is whats funny.. I like AC/DC but they have never been a favorite, except one song, and it is live. You NEED to see "for those about to rock, live at donington" what realy makes this performance so epic is that, it is a slow song, that speeds up a little at the ending, but the drummer! Haha he gets a little bit to exited, and it is SO awsome!! You NEED to see this!

    This song kinda explains the wrongs of the world and theories of life and what's to come. A bit prophetic in a way. It deals with how evil the world is but we fail to see that we are all product of the same thing. We come into this world through the same means but greed, hate and segregation divides us. It means of what's to come, the certainty of death and how humanity will undo itself but spirituality and science will make that decision if we do not open our eyes and realize that we are bigger than everything if we settle our differences. Also, this is their longest track ever and was not a single but deff a fan favorite.

    Since you're loving the female vocalists so far, maybe Ayreon would be a nice suggestion. The brilliant mastermind behind it is called Arjen Lucassen. Also from the Netherlands. Floor did a load of vocals on his projects, her sister Irene collaborated on some aswell, sometimes in duet. To begin with maybe we can indulge Stan with Valley Of The Queens, live. It's very soft, there are a couple of live versions. One with Floor Jansen, which is awesome, and one with 3 of the greats in female fronted metal: Floor Jansen, Anneke van Giersbergen and Marcela Bovio. It's an amateur recording and I think there a bit awkward on stage but the vocals are so beautiful.

  • @nimedhel09

    Just when I was commenting about this one, and here you go...
    Yeah, Epica are known to combine philosophy and science in most of their stuff (Mark is a big quantum physics nerd, haha) and they touch many different subjects in all their songs and albums. And yes, it's not an Epica song if there's no latin in it (joke, but mostly true, haha).
    About this song, I saw the video where they talked about the process just an hour ago, haha. Apparently, this song took 4 years to be written, and it was quite the work. Mark also says that this song is in honor of his grandmother who passed away before he could finish it. She let them rehearse in her garage and would always come by and listen to them, and she was very supportive, so she has two songs written with her in mind: this one and Tides of Time, which was written by Simone and is a beautiful and heartfelt ballad.
    I think the video is a bit too distracting, but the remastered sound is awesome! I think you should give the live/studio video of this one, because you can watch the band play it, even if the live sound is overlayed with the studio sound.

    Dudes. You reacted to the wrong video. It really was a missed opportunity. When you start with a lyric video your attention is half focussed on the music and half focussed on reading the lyrics. It was clear to see from your faces that your brain was working overtime to read and interpret the lyrics as well as listing to the usic. In the end you did neither with full attention.... It's always better to start listening to just the music... Reading the lyrics can come later.

    Love this musical masterpiece but it’s not for everyone...
    Less suitable for Epica beginners or cynical people. Also the video is too distracting making the listener overwhelmed.

      I find it less distracting than for example Unleashed official video :)
