@@GanderFlight Well if you look carefully, the part he is using is PVC plastic dash panel. Most cars have leather finish full dash. Really misleading video.
@@kpg10 How is it misleading? A Honda is one of THE most common brands -- and the title says, "my" therefore I'm not sure what you're insinuating is misleading...
@@GanderFlight Well it depends where you live, in EU, Honda is not even close of most used cars. Most used cars are German and French brands here. But that's not the point. I am not saying that you did this on purpose but the fact that you did not point out that you used a plastic part of your dash which is really hard to see on your video, it is an misleading video. If your dash wasn't plastic, that melted suction cap would not only leave a circle spot, but completely destroy that dash. I really hope ppl doesn't destroy their dash panels because of your video by getting that thing attached there.
Thanks for this video it covers exactly my worries about putting it directly onto the dash and damaging it. I got the one that wedges itself into the cd player slot but it wiggles a bit while driving so I think I will give this one a try now while I am still able to return the other and decide which I like best. I think as long as I remove this one from the dash and only put it on while driving I wont have to worry much about the suns UV rays or it melting for a very long time especially if you hardly noticed anything after leaving it always on in the sun for that long.
Nice review. Great to see how well it held up under high temperatures, which is a relief. I saw some written reviews of people who complained that it fell off, so my guess is they installed it incorrectly or maybe the dash wasn’t clean.
My name is Josh and I literally was looking for exactly this because one of the arms broke after 3 years and when I went to take it off, I noticed my iOttie suction cup melted! Glad goo gone works because I'm gonna pick some up tomorrow.
I have the same mount but had a different experience. As time went by (3 years) the glue got so soft that the mount kept falling off. Even after cleaning it per manufacturer instructions it lost it's holding power. I did read that the adhesive breaks down over time. I've purchased another iottie and if it last 3 years I'll be happy. Wish the manufacturer made a replaceable suction cup/sticky mount.
I've used the iottie for 4 years and I've never experienced the melting of the gel, I think using the black dashboard pad is essential to keep the gel from melting.
@@GanderFlight NYC, rarely triple digits here, summer is around 98 at most. But I imagine it can get up to 120+ degree inside the car under the summer heat from my all black interior lol.
Thank you for the review, my hesitation about ordering, actually two different concerns, were will it stay on my dash and would it mess my dash up when I removed it. So thank you very much for the review and the information
after 5 years of mine being attached to the windshield it finally fell off. IT left a mess of a goo on the wind shield and on the suction cup. now I need to clean the windshield and suction cup and see it will hold. but this is the first time it has fallen off. nothing else will hold with just a suction in this PA heat.
I had my iOttie about six months in GA, it was attached to the underside of my dash, not sure if the weight made it fall off. I cleaned the dash with alcohol before I adhered it. It fell off about 2wks ago. Tonight, I boiled some hot water in a tiny pot and whooshed it around for 2-3 minutes letting it dry overnight. I will find out tomorrow if it works.
I have the iOttie One touch Five and I love it, my ONLY problem is (I have a Samsung Note 20 Ultra so its a bigger phone and) when the phone is in the holder and I touch the top part of the phone it pivots and the bottom half starts to come out of the holder because there's NO back support for the upper half of the phone.
Figured I’d try it without and only use it if need be. It’s especially helpful if the place you’re trying to mount it is very textured- my dash is pretty smooth.
I used one that had adhesive before and it ended up damaging my dash when I finally tried to remove it one day. It was a different phone holder so I don't know if this one has a better adhesive that wont.
Mine won’t come off and I’ve applied heat and everything. I bottom sticky part is fully stuck to my dash I’ve tried a fishing line and floss and used a heat gun and spray and can’t get it
Whoa-- you've been able to run fishing line underneath it and it didn't come off?! Maybe have a friend help to pull it up as you peel it back so it can't reattach.
While I didn't count - I'd say it fell off less than 5 times. Typically during those season changes when the outside temperature changes over 24 hours were super drastic.
The point was to show what it looked like after removing it - if there was any long term difference - not what it looked like with the bit of removable goo residue.

I thought this was a video from 2015 with how quick and straightforward it was! Nice review!
Super impressed with the lack of damage done with your specific circumstances. This has me sold.
👍

Youll need to keep the bottom sticky suction cup super clean - if the adhesive gets coated in dust and dirt its not going to function well.
Thanks for the review! Was about to get it but where I live it’s always 100 degrees even in the winter. Nice save
I hope it works well for you!
You mean you’re not going to get it because of this review? Because of the goop and the possible shadow that it left?

If there is a BIG swing in day/night temperatures sometimes it will fall off. Not often though and very easy to reattach.
It must be user error because mine ain't budging🤣
allright bro I'm going to trust you with this one
I hope it works out for you!
How did you remove it though??

Ive had that happen with my new iPhone 12 pro max as well.
Is there a reason you didn't use the base suction pad thing? I just ordered mine and this video showed me exactly what I was worried about. Thank you!

Is the dashboard pad reusable?. Im planning to use the same dashboard pad for all my different rental cars
Yes it is reusable. For rental cars I'd just use the windshield though.
I just bought one, thanks for the honest review.
You’re welcome!
Wonder if these would be ok on a leather dash?
Hmmm not sure. Could just as easily mount it to the windshield though.
Is your dash plastic or vinyl?
Isn't vinyl a type of plastic compound?
That really helped me thank you!! So simple and so effective!
Glad to hear it was helpful!

Nice review. How did you remove the melted glue? Which liquid was it?
I used goo gone.
@@GanderFlight thank you!
Will the shadow go away over time?
Unsure - I put a new holder right back on. I'd assume it would fade over time just like the rest of the dash.
Good to know. Since my truck is almost 20 years old I'll assume all the fading is done by now.
👍
Thanks for this really helpful
You're welcome.
Good review
Thanks!
I can’t get it off my windshield to put it on my dash. That holder is on to stay, maybe a putty knife might help.
Wow!
Mine isn't coming off that easily. It's stuck stuck😵💫
Which part isn't coming off?
@@GanderFlight the piece that sticks on the dash. So it's separate from the part that holds the phone. Looks like a little round plate.
@@thereelrhonda6850 I'd grab something plastic to reduce the potential of scratching and try to gently pry it up.

I thought you were going to show what it looks like? You cleaned it before showing us first.

Mine fkd my soft touch dash.
Furious
That sucks- by soft touch, what do you mean?
Why would you check if dash is damaged? Further, I can easily see a mark on your dash without even adjusting any lighting.
To give a long term review...
