The guy at 2:08 questioning Gabriel, if you watch him throughout the film, he is never too far from Colonel Martin's flank. He's always guarding his back. It seems like every skirmish or battle, he is watching out for the colonel's safety. Rough around the edges for sure, but loyal and brave.
And notice how he was that the doorway to the entrance guarding his office at the Spanish mission, I always liked that character

Irregulars/militia can make a tremendous difference. Late in the Revolution, the british tried a three-pronged attack from the north, east and south, expecting to link up in the southern reaches of the Hudson river (if memory serves.) Militia attacks ruined the advance of all three columns - a dramatic and critical defeat of the Brits.

What do you think of the sneering question, "What do you know about war?" from one of Benjamin's men? While Gabriel is young and idealistic and has served in the Continental Army, Benjamin and his men have served in the French and Indian War, in which they butchered the French and their Cherokee allies in reprisal for the massacre of English settlers.
It's an interesting question, genuinely. They've both seen war at this point, for several years each the both of them. Quite different wars though when we consider the experiences of the Continental Army and its self-conscious efforts to promote professionalism, and the veterans of the French and Indian War who had experience in ambuscade, raiding, and counter-raiding. Both are war no doubt, but with horrors unique to their own.
What do I think? The man was a blithering hypocrite. He was no more experienced than Ben's son. And even if he was, Ben's son would still know enough.
War can have people serve with valor or malice. Depends on the individual in the war effort

I thought about this too! But if you notice, one side stands up first and fires, then the other side. If was me, would do the same and have the best shooters on the 2nd side.

i just saw somewhere there's an L tactic for ambush the marines use, literally. one side meet at a 90 degree angle so one side shoots horizontal, the other vertical while both are technically safe from friendly fire. but its a film and mel gibson is a bit biased in it

I’m showing my inexperience…but I’ve been told that dog doesn’t offer much in the way of a good meal.
Paradoxically, I’ve also seen that dogs are eaten on the regular in some parts of the world (won’t name names; but “man’s best friend” will be honored under my roof).
At any rate, I wonder if a dog is more useful as a companion moreso than a meal… particularly when their ancestors were crucial to staving off other predators during the dark times.

Really there are no rules to war, the only guideline really is to make your enemy unable to resit you. This can be in material, economic or political terms but killing out your enemy is the most sure way to ensure no more aggression. Civilians are valid targets as well as they are drafted or conscripted into the military, work in the factories to make arms for the military and vote or provide political support/pressure to the enemy leadership. There for they are a military asset if not the most important military asset which means all civilian buildings are open to attack as well. Those who make rules on war are those who can't win at war there for making the lie of rules at all helps them keep up the illusion that they can fight back. So long as you are the victor with enough strength to project your will after the conflict it really does not matter how you win so long as you do it in a way that allows you to be the only one able to fight after.
This was literally a civil war/rebellion at the time, killing civilians is only going to turn them against you.

i don't know anything about guns, but as an historian I can tell you everything in movies is a work of fiction. (This argument is a bit more complex but I keep it straight forward here). :P
If you had loaded your flintlock musket before the rain started, you could get off that one shot.
The main charge of powder is inside the barrel and mostly protected from damp (especially if you inserted cloth/paper wadding behind the ball, which would seal off the powder against moisture entering through the muzzle).
And the priming in the priming pan is covered by the frizzen if the frizzen is kept in it's rear position (which is also the position it needs to be in for firing).

When you're just as likely to hit friend instead of foe, being recognizable isn't a bad idea. Plenty of examples if allied forces clashing by mistake
Soldiers always wore things to be easily identified by friend or foe throughout history, mainly to make sure allies didnt start killing eachother on the field of battle. Romans for example didnt wear red clothing and red decorated shields because it looked pretty.

Yes accuracy is how close you are to the target, precision is how close your shots are together.
I guess is something like "personal accuracy + volley precision"

I saw a RUclips clip of a group of teenage guys in NSW ,shoot a fox ,clean it ,cut it up into portions,then cook and eat it . Not one of them seemed to have a problem eating it and there was none left ,only bones,so I guess like dog,Fox is ok as well.

Honestly they did the right thing. Even if they allowed prisoners they won’t be treated in good conditions and since they are militia they are on the move constantly with no prisons so they would be dragging around prisoners for weeks at a time slowing them down and In turn they have to feed them. Only 9 out of 10 prisoners from Revolutionary war didn’t survived during the conflict
No, but it is still just a show/movie. It is how we, us, Americans, we treat our "enemies". No hate, or disdain, when a warrior throws their weapon down, the fight is done. No need for further bloodshed. We are better than that, an unarmed man is no threat to me or my brothers in arms. The warrior creed tells us that. We respect one another. The fight is over, and all of us people deserve 3 squares and a cot to sleep on.

This is a really terrible movie. Makes war seem like a camping trip with friends where you might get a scratch or bruise.
