So essentially the 289 Stude had a bleed off filtering system just like the Ford Flat head V8 that was designed back in 1932. I'm pretty sure the flathead filtering system was standard.
nice , i am also automobile engineer and this video is very helpfull for me and other . its great work . i love automobile engineering . i want to manufacture a engine also. i am finding job after 8 year experience in auto parts companies . thank you sir! for this kind of videos
Oil goes into the center of the filter? That's a new one on me. I hope that filter doesn't have the usual anti-drainback seal - it would block the oil from exiting.
Thank You Again sir I have been watching your video on Engine Building And for the first time in my life I have started my first build It,s a Holden WB V8 308 Blue Motor Sorry i am from Australia Please Take Care and i love your work Please keep the videos up
Thanks for your reply to my comment regarding your assembly of the Studebaker engine. I recently discovered your RUclips channel. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the assembly process with your comments. I didn't mean my comment to be taken offensively, it's just that Fram doesn't have the greatest reputation as a maker of quality oil filters. I think it's great that you were able to install the filter where there was none before. I take pride in changing the oil regularly for every car I have ever owned - the latest 2 had/have over 200K miles. I use Wix filters. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said in your oil change video about the benefits of changing oil oneself. Thanks for your channel. I know it's a lot of work to put these videos together.
Thanks for the tips! Just finished my my first car engine...a 61 corvair that sat for 15 years...I'm putting her in a dune buggy this weekend, hope she starts lol
I did not forget....lol. I left it out because I added the lines for the oil filter and they would be in the way so I rerouted the fuel line. Sharp eye!
Hi Pete, I noticed that during tear down, you turned the crank counter clockwise to find tdc#1 that's why the marks were together at the cam gear 180 out I have also done the same thing oops!
the pressure line for the filter should be on the side not the center of the filter housing. the anti flow back valve only permits oil to flow one direction- in the side, out the center
Quick question, why black paint? Black absorbs or helps retain heat, makes any oil leaks hard to spot and generally doesn't seem to be the best colour to use? My 302 Windsor is coming out for a rebuild and the block will be Windsor blue, but the sump and rocker covers white, cross member white and as the car is already white the engine bay will get cleaned and left white. Just curious mate, really enjoy these videos.
I just powder coated the valve covers and they look awesome! The owner asked about a supercharger, but I'd have to change some internal parts to make it work.
Good video. Do you know how the original oil filter option was configured? Also is there any limit to a cast iron block? It's pretty amazing to think of all the stresses and acids that block was subjected to over all those years, and yet it can still be rebored to perform for decades more.
I do have the diagram how the oil filter was configured. I'm thinking the block could be bored out more, but it's not really needed. This engine will run another 60 years
Loving this series Pete! Is this your job to rebuild and restore cars, or is it just a hobby? Hopefully I make enough money to build a garage like that in my later years...anyway, Keep the vids rolling!
Thanks, Pete! Quick question: when torquing down the intake manifold, why didn't you use an alternating/"star" pattern, i.e., corner to corner, side to side?
Lol....well.....honestly? I torqued down the manifold before I made the video because it's a pain in the butt to film. If you notice the bolts didn't turn when the wrench clicked, but you are right, follow the star pattern
lol I do. More than once (not more than twice) while growing up, I was told to undo whatever had been attached and to torque it with a star pattern. Just wondered if there was an exception.
Do you have a link or part number on the oil pressure lines? Both of mine are broke and I’m having trouble finding ones. I can’t seem to find them on Studebaker International.
Hey Pet. I just found your channel. You have some great videos. I am putting a 307 small block from an 86 Camaro into my 1954 Dodge Fargo. I don't have a clue what I am doing and I am looking for guidance. I can do my own body work and a friend was going to show me how to put everything on the motor and get it running, but he fell ill and is no longer able to work on cars. Do you have a video on where everything goes on a 307? It is a motor only. I need to put on the water pump, Generator and wiring, all pullies, Carberator and set it up. Connect all hoses to the carb and distributor. There are lines for the transmission as well that I need help with. I guess I need everything. I hope you can shed some light my way. Drop over to my channel and see what I am up to. I have subscribed to you channel so I can keep up. Thanks.
@@PetesGarage Thanks for getting back to me Pete. I have been looking for days now trying to find how to hook up the carb hoses and what brackets needed to install the alternator and water pump pullies, as well as the trans lines, but all the sites that I looked at overlooked this part when rebuilding a motor. I guess they think everyone knows the simple stuff. Well it is not simple to someone that has never done it before. I will keep looking. Thanks
Just arrived on my timeline in Ireland.... 20 minutes late! Morning Pete. looking forward to this instalment. Cheers
That is awesome! Thanks my friend

Pretty much, yes

You're right, I misspoke.
I'm trying to learn about mechanics and other stuff like this because once I get older I'm gonna start doing this kinda stuff
You can do it if you try
All coming together nicely. Great job!
Almost ready to run
Thank You Again sir I have been watching your video on Engine Building And for the first time in my life I have started my first build It,s a Holden WB V8 308 Blue Motor Sorry i am from Australia Please Take Care and i love your work Please keep the videos up
That is wonderful. I'm glad you are learning to do it yourself. Good luck to you my friend
Hey mate I'm in NSW, my 302 is coming out for a rebuild. How's your 308 going, all done?
Great job again Pete! But the boss is sleepin again lol :-)
Hey, when you're the boss you get to sleep....lol
Coming together nicely, but then he puts a Fram oil filter on - Ouch!
You know this car came without any filter, it was an option and it filters oil passively from an oil plug in the head.

I agree. I use Wix filters on almost every engine. Just putting any filter on this car was an upgrade....lol.
Lol!!😄 Not the FRAM FILTER!!!
@@PetesGarage Fram was usually stock air and oil filters on Studebakers.

Hi Pete,
Guess what you forgot...the fuel line that goes under he water pump...ooops!
I did not forget....lol. I left it out because I added the lines for the oil filter and they would be in the way so I rerouted the fuel line. Sharp eye!
great videos always in depth !
Just enough to keep it from getting boring....lol
You forgot the gas line that whent before the water pump houseing
You are 100% correct, great eye for catching that
Hi Pete,
I noticed that during tear down, you turned the crank counter clockwise to find tdc#1 that's why the marks were together at the cam gear 180 out I have also done the same thing oops!
I'll have to look, but I always turn clockwise because the bolt will come out if you don't
the pressure line for the filter should be on the side not the center of the filter housing. the anti flow back valve only permits oil to flow one direction- in the side, out the center
Thank you, I fixed that
what did you use for oil restrictor when adding that oil filter kit..
Thanks for another great video.
Thanks Steve

The engine will look outstanding painted black with the yellow valve covers. Did you consider fitting a Paxton Supercharger?
I just powder coated the valve covers and they look awesome! The owner asked about a supercharger, but I'd have to change some internal parts to make it work.
thanks for alot.I'm enjoy of it's and want me more learning to you

No exceptions, you are right
cant wait for the carb rebuild! have you installed an EFI carb?
I'm doing the carb this weekend. I've done many EFI installs
Petes Garage what about the self learning fuel injected carbs? I was looking into them but I wanted to see if they are worth it?
Why not just go full EFI?
Petes Garage well i dont really know much on how to swap a carbed 302 to an efi, besides just buying the carb styled efi, but ill look up into it.
where was it that you got ur rebuild kit from? I'm in the process of rebuilding this exact engine and I'm having trouble finding a kit.
Call Phil at Fairborn Studebaker and tell him I gave you his name 937-878-1576
15:30 .yes let that gasget set !
Do you have a link or part number on the oil pressure lines? Both of mine are broke and I’m having trouble finding ones. I can’t seem to find them on Studebaker International.
I don't know, those are difficult to find
I'm keepin' up Pete..
Thank my friend

I don't have a video on a 307, but it's pretty close to the 350. You can probably find tons of pictures online that will answer all of your questions.

hello pete in the begining of the series you was explaining in details now you are just like the Engine have Pistons and gears :/
Perhaps you missed a part?
Failed to understand why peoples hit dislike button 😢
Me too, I wish they'd leave a comment and say why
Probably because of the fram oil filter.
10:10 someone sleeping in the garage???
My Pug snores... she had to be put down this past summer. I miss her
Ohh m sorry!!! it was really a nice one!!!
