@@Novo88205the point of it is that if they were sitting there long enough to get the light spot, that means they had enough time to ripen. It doesn’t mean that they’ll be especially sweet, just that they’re definitely ripe. It’s always worked for me when choosing watermelon.
Keep in mind that there are different shapes for watermelons too. Seeded watermelons tend to be oval shaped while the seedless variety are more sphere shaped.
My mother taught me this growing up to listen to the noise it makes. I can count on 1 hand how many times I’ve done this test and gotten a sandy or not sweet melon. It works 98% of the time like she said.

I know of the yellow skin part, but didn’t know about the smaller bellybutton (vine button?) trick! I will try that in the future! My grandpa taught us to go by sound. You want the deeper sounding pong-pong vs a thin sounding piya-piya… if that makes sense. 😅

It's good if the colors are really saturated You don't want to get one that has a stem that's been cut because it was picked before it was ready You don't want an unevenly shaped one because it might have had a Vine wrapped around it or been nutrient deficient

@@robynhalyard9100 Bees and wasps are attracted to the sugars contained in a sweet melon. Its really not a big deal its their nature to do so. Even if you give them food theyll still do it. So no reason to be sad. There not actual stings. more so a bite. Its an old saying as well "Bee stings"

Not always the heavy one is good. I once chose a watermelon that was really heavy, but it super hard to chew and had little flavor.

That's because honeybees and other pollinators can smell the sugar and will try to get some of that sugar to seep out.
