    Just in case some of you folks haven't known already, well, WRGB TV has since become a CBS affiliate AND all NBC programming can now be seen over on WNYT TV, NewsChannel 13.

    This might be one of my favorite versions of Proud as a Peacock... it's just so... different!

    And two years after the affiliate switch, GE sold WRGB - which was very fortunate, given GE's subsequent acquisition of NBC.

    After the switch to CBS, WRGB still had that 6 logo seen here until it changed to a Circle 6 logo by New Years Day 1982

    Nice group shot near the end of the promo with the WRGB staff with Jim Delmonico (then WRGB VP/GM) in the center.

    This is different from the previous localized versions of NBC's Proud as a Peacock campaign.

    And after looking at issues of The Schenectady Gazette (now known as The Daily Gazette) from 1981, when WRGB became a CBS affiliate, they dropped cartoons from their afternoon block.

    I'm guessing that it's because WRGB's signals overlapped with WNBC's, and that GE would have to get a waiver to keep both stations?

    General Electric would have kept owning the station until 1983 when it was sold to Unicom, Inc.
    But if GE would have kept owning Channel 6 today, it would probably end up with NBC once more in 1995, leaving CBS with WNYT Channel 13.

    Funny thing is, if WRGB didn't switch the following year, it would have become an NBC O&O a few years later, as its owner, GE, acquired NBC.

    • @revinhatol

      +johnnysama That would leave CBS with WNYT.

    • @revinhatol
      @revinhatol 3 года назад +1

      @@gcservernetwork7779 That also left WNYT with CBS. As soon as Paramount Stations Group sold its major affiliated stations to different owners (Hubbard, in WNYT's case), WNYT would eventually be sold to CBS Corporation. Thus, making it a CBS O&O.

      But they learned a valuable lesson about actually making the shows as good as the promos. And that’s one to grow on.
      Of course, they forgot all that in the 1990s when Warren Littlefield turned it into a conveyor belt of crap revolving around a terrible *Living Single* ripoff.

      Proud of what exactly? *Disney’s Wonderful World* getting beaten by *60 Minutes* every week when it’s not already getting preempted by football on the East Coast? Sitcoms without Gary Coleman or his former housekeeper flopping left and right? James Garner being too physically infirm to even do *The Rockford Files* anymore? The failure of every drama other than *Little House on the Prairie* and *CHiPs?* The money they lost because of the Olympic boycott when the advertisers pulled out the moment Jimmy Carter pulled the US team out of Moscow? The drama over Johnny Carson wanting to reduce the number of shows he does a week? RCA making it pay for the consequences of it getting into businesses it had no business getting into? The strike that pushed back the premiere of *Hill Street Blues* along with the rest of the schedule?
