Like many brilliant Comedians, an often troubled person with a dark side. Mr Sellers was brilliant, his talent and ability as both Actor and Comic genius remain unsurpassed.
At least one episode of The Goon Show was done without Spike, as he was too ill to perform. So, Harry and Peter did a show or two as a duo, with Sellers doing all of Spike's voices. He'd occasionally be standing there having a three way conversation with himself. A madman, but a genius too.
He would be doing his own voices and Spike’s ones, too. Then, when _he_ was off sick, they had to bring in at least _two_ other actors to play his parts.
4:55 “A solumn humorless (American) announcer…. we used to use American sounds. We didn’t use words.” Sellers makes sounds and damn … a perfect American without words. Wow!
@@markjackson5665 that's absolutely the chronology. My grandad and I used to listen to the Goons, which led me to Python, to the Goodies, to the Young Ones.. My sense of humour was given the *BEST* chance to flourish.
Most people remember Dr Strangelove, and admire Peter's different characters, but are totally unaware of the 'voices' from his radio shows. Thank you for this reminder of a genius at work.
Mr. Sellers made the world a better place through his talent. I know *my* world was filled with a whole lot of laughter as a result of his work. What a guy! I think there is nobody with his breadth of talent alive today. Jamie Foxx may come close.
It reminds me how Britain was so intertwined in the last 500 years of history that their colonial exploits from India to America and beyond made them the most all encompassing cultural force on Earth. Peter took all those characters and their mannerisms into profound comic art. No doubt his radio background made him come from the sound of the voice first.
Like Sir Alec before him Peter Sellers was ridiculously talented. I watched a comedy short with Peter and Spike on YT about the theft of a horn with guest star Dick Emery and it was hilarious. I read something about Harry not wanting to appear over money but they were mid - late 20’s and if true that is very surprising and although only 30 mins it is far superior to the film they made with Michael Bentine. The best segment of that film was Peter Sellers monologue as a US military officer.
Best Goon Show Episode Ever: "Ill Met By Goonlight". Do NOT give away the Secret of von Gooturn. "You see, Seagoon... you seeeeeeeeeeeee, SeaGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
For twenty years, I've been trying to figure out what "hern" meant when they'd do American accents on the Goon Show. It might be funnier that it means nothing at all.
Judging by the fact you're still using His name as, an expression of disgust, you've got nothing to look forward to on the other side! An entire lifetime and you've learnt nothing! Now that is sad! 🤦♀️🤣
I miss having a good reason to laugh. If someone had this interview today, there'd be an angry mob of purple haired freaks outside threatening to set the place on fire because he'd hurt their feelings. I've always loved Sellers since childhood, but I had no idea he was a genius, a talent of this caliber. Jesus, he was as good as Robin Williams.
I miss accents! Nothing like a great accent, and Peter was a genius with accents. Of course, totally off limits for comedians to do accents these days. Except the Irish accent, that seems to be fair game.
I lost any respect for him when I read that he used his son to get back at his ex wife. On his son's 10th birthday he hired a truck to remove all his sons toys and anything he had of personal significance, later writing to him and saying 'I no longer wish to be considered your father'.To do that to your child is taking cruelty to a whole new level. A despicable and nasty person. A talented comic actor maybe, but I think knowing his story more completely gives a better view of him, and what kind of person he was.
I wish the woke brigade would stop equating impersonating certain accents with racism. An accent is a cultural thing and nothing to do with race. Why is it fine to do a French accent, but not an Indian one?
Stop. Listen. Watch. Genius at work.
All that talent inside 1 person.
Total genius.
I wish he was around today the woke brigade would commit suicide .
Like many brilliant Comedians, an often troubled person with a dark side. Mr Sellers was brilliant, his talent and ability as both Actor and Comic genius remain unsurpassed.
The goons.Milligan,Sellers,Secombe.Brilliant.Can still hear their character voices.
Absolutely love Sellers. His appearances on British talk shows always have me laughing.
At least one episode of The Goon Show was done without Spike, as he was too ill to perform. So, Harry and Peter did a show or two as a duo, with Sellers doing all of Spike's voices. He'd occasionally be standing there having a three way conversation with himself. A madman, but a genius too.

The most talented man of his time - and any other time come to that.
So easy to forget that Peter Sellers (and Spike, too) was such a master at so many different characters and voices.
One of the best character actors of his generation, fantastic talent.
Sellers was hilarious - a very funny man who brought joy to so many. Joy never had any peace after this.
I loved the goon show for years. I had forgotten how entertaining these mad arssess where 😂😂😂😂😂
Pure genius! ❤
Brilliant he was also doing spikes parts and sounding just like spike.. Such a talented man
The most hilarious thing I've seen in a long time. A brilliant man with, unstoppable talent.
Spike, Harry and Peter are long gone but the characters they created live on in my heartand, I suspect, yours.
What a genius he was.
It's worth noting Michael Parkinson's skill as an interviewer in hardly saying a word. Can't imagine any of the current crop doing the same.
If he was somebody you didn’t like you would say he was getting paid millions for doing nothing.
Classic inoffensive comedy which made you think as you were listening to it on the radio
What a brilliant comic actor when coupled with Spike Milligan gave great joy to so many.
4:55 “A solumn humorless (American) announcer…. we used to use American sounds. We didn’t use words.” Sellers makes sounds and damn … a perfect American without words. Wow!
This was the brilliance of Parkinson, he knew when to shut up and let the guests shine...
One of the funniest men who ever lived
Just Brilliant.
Your handbags in fire ,brilliant 😂😂😂❤❤
This comedy at its best ❤
What a treasure he was.....such talent. Yes, a comic genius.
Perfection
Loved listening to the Goon show these guys were absolutely hilarious
What a talent Peter was. The goons changed my life.
Mine too! Without the Goons there would have been no Monty Python!
@@markjackson5665 that's absolutely the chronology. My grandad and I used to listen to the Goons, which led me to Python, to the Goodies, to the Young Ones.. My sense of humour was given the *BEST* chance to flourish.
Don't like all that bloody tackle up there. 🤣
There are impersonators and then there's Sellers...
What a great great genius he was indeed
Most people remember Dr Strangelove, and admire Peter's different characters, but are totally unaware of the 'voices' from his radio shows. Thank you for this reminder of a genius at work.
My favourite actor / comedian ever.......EVER.
Always amazing how he could do Bloodnock's shaky elderly voice
"It goes right thru you, you know..."
"He's fallen in the water!" Classic Goons - you waited for it!
Genius, sheer genius...🤣
Mr. Sellers made the world a better place through his talent. I know *my* world was filled with a whole lot of laughter as a result of his work. What a guy! I think there is nobody with his breadth of talent alive today. Jamie Foxx may come close.
You must be kidding.
❤Such a charismatic genius here! The idea he had no personality of his own seems difficult to accept.😍
I spent my childhood learning the voices of the Goons
Peter Sellers ...a complete one-off!!!!!!
Parkinson was smart enough to just let Sellers run with it.
Where he is, I can only imagine that he's up there with Robin Williams, laughing & improving all the way. RIP to him 🙏🎭💔🌈
Spike was a monster, ever Sellers was in awe of him.
Arr, those happy, happy goon days of our childhoods.
Flawed human being but an entertaining genius.
Class act.
You realize, Parkinson didn’t say a word for 6 minutes?
Hahahaha bloody hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂
Like Sir Alec before him Peter Sellers was ridiculously talented. I watched a comedy short with Peter and Spike on YT about the theft of a horn with guest star Dick Emery and it was hilarious. I’m a proud, unapologetic woke, tofu eating Guardianista and still unapologetic Goon Show lover.
"all that tackle"
I remember that, but I thought it was Michael Caine who related it.
Genius.
"I shall be banned from everywhere soon"
Kinda ironic…..
Brilliant
Best Goon Show Episode Ever: "Ill Met By Goonlight". Do NOT give away the Secret of von Gooturn.
"You see, Seagoon... you seeeeeeeeeeeee, SeaGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
They don’t make em like him anymore. Sadly.
Hugely funny and talented, but a very difficult, troubled man to work or live with.
you couldn't get away with any of that today (sadly)
Goontastically tremendous 😂
Very talented. Gone too soon 😢
Goon too soon
2:00 proto Julian and Sandy
For twenty years, I've been trying to figure out what "hern" meant when they'd do American accents on the Goon Show. It might be funnier that it means nothing at all.
Class
❤❤❤😂😂
..and now we have lost Barry Humphries. Life is good, but gezzus Death is sad.
Judging by the fact you're still using His name as, an expression of disgust, you've got nothing to look forward to on the other side! An entire lifetime and you've learnt nothing! Now that is sad! 🤦♀️🤣
Peter Ustinov was hot too shabby either as an impersonator. On top of that he was a renaissance man, he could talk about almost anything.
More like four and a half seconds, unless the tweed suit acts as a parachute.
Blank piece of paper in front and wow, 😂
I miss accents! Nothing like a great accent, and Peter was a genius with accents. Of course, totally off limits for comedians to do accents these days. Except the Irish accent, that seems to be fair game.
Peter sellers genius in the pink panther films goons idiotic spike milligan so un funny
Sellers once said, Spike or myself could fail to turn up for a show and the other could cover, but if Harry didn't show up, the show was a no go.
Perhaps because Harry's characters needed that singer's chest/throat to be materialized?
peter Sellers was brilliant as Cloeseau. The Yanks, who tried to clone Cloeseau and Staptoe and Son, { Sanford } were not in the race.
Hindu, brilliant.
WHAT a talent! SUPERLATIVE!
i must admit, i think Peter would have left Robin Williams (as much as i love him too) dead in the water
Imagine them two together!
Comical but he was a creep.
He was funny but foolishly bigoted
Classic case of talented genius in public, while being utter prick in private life. Many comedians are monsters or tormentors in real life.
This is a short clip about The Goons though ......
I wish the woke brigade would stop equating impersonating certain accents with racism. An accent is a cultural thing and nothing to do with race. Why is it fine to do a French accent, but not an Indian one?
Exactly, I've been saying that for years. I'm so glad to see someone else say it.
They're all trying to upset you particularly. Everyone is. Haven't you noticed?
They don't seem to have a problem mocking "black"voices when it's funny to them.
