OMG. Eva Green rejected to play this role of Hillary Swank. I would have given everything for have seen her next to Josh in this time, not just in Penny Dreadful. God! i´m so fan of Eva/Josh pairing onscreen!!!! i never would get enough of them. ♥♥♥
It's possible that Shaw's character was featured more in the original cut. Shame on the studio for insisting that 40 minutes be removed to speed the film up.
I came to RUclips just to watch her scene again. I saw the movie a few nights ago and this scene is my favorite in the film because of Fiona. Her expression at the start and her drunken moment at the table were permanently etched in my brain.
lol how elitist is she that a cop is such a bad occupation? Even back then they surely did all right for themselves. In LA these days cops make bank man. What was she like a brain surgeon? LOL
@@subsamadhi4124 I wouldn't call it "bank"... You average L.A cop is paid between $59,100 to $69,000 a year. Which is decent. But, the living expense out there is outrageous. Where I live they are paid between $47,000 to $57,000, and it's a pretty decent living expense. So realistically they don't make that much.
"IN LINC-HOLHN HEIGHTS!" God, that moment kills me. A shame how screwed this movie got in production. She's ultimately such a tragic character in the book.
I instantly thought of two movies during this scene. One was Rouben Mamoulian’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with Fredric March in which the opening scene and the first transformation was shot from Fredric March’s POV. The second film is Robert Montgomery’s Lady in the Lake in which the entire movie is shot from Robert Montgomery’s POV.
Here I am. I just finished the book. And I have no idea why but Georgie Tilden is my favourite character. Maybe because he´s portrayed by William Finley in the movie. William Finley is my favourite actor.
Eva Green declinated this role that´s playing Hillary Swank, i will never forgive her because of that!!!! We could have seen to ETHAN & VANESSA twice!!!! What a bad luck! Hillary played it very well but it´s not the same chemistry!!!!
@V eesel It had a campiness that I think was deliberate and I don't think people realize that it was supposed to be that way. It was a nod to the original Hollywood film noir.
@@lisalahey-f8x The boxing is from the original novel by James Ellroy. The adaptation of the book for this film is….. not good. But I think De Palma is otherwise a good fit for the material. This one scene is really entertaining. I recommend the book highly.
Audy Stl First of all this movie is a fictional adaptation of a real murder that took place in Los Angeles in 1947 not the 1920s. Second of all I grew up in Lincoln Heights and I would know if there was ever a red light district there. I know it’s history and culture and people, I’m from there. So if there’s anyone that has a right to make any comments about Lincoln Heights it’s me! Not you.
Audy Stl Well, it just so happens that I am a “know it all”especially when it comes to Lincoln Heights history and Los Angeles history because I’ve studied it for myself. I’m a L.A. native. I’m not one of these transplants that moves to Los Angeles California and pretends to know everything about it. I know everything about it because it’s my home. And there was no red light district in Lincoln Heights ever in the history of Lincoln Heights. And for you to assume that there was is in fact pretty racist and absolutely narcissistic. The truth of the matter is Los Angeles was founded because of all the different churches and church movements that took place in L.A. from it’s very beginnings. L.A. at its foundation and history and culture is a Christian City. There’s a reason it’s called the “City of Angels”
@@julymanzano1569 You and me both! Incidentally, I've discovered there was one actor - Joey Slotnick, whose role ended up on the cutting room floor when the film was trimmed down for theatrical distribution. He played a suspect in Elizabeth Short's murder.
scene of the film shot with a fantastic cinematic technique .... unfortunately the film disappointed me a little, perhaps because I think the book is wonderful
It's like a Cliff's Note adaptation, while L.A. Confidential kept the overall shape and essense of it's repsective book. Even if LA Confidential was pretty sanitized. Reading Ellroy can be like crawling through a sewer in the best way. This film to me at least has some of that.
@@CosmicApe2 It is true that adapting Ellroy's novels to the cinema is quite difficult, but with La Confidential in my opinion they did it better than with this one .... forward in my opinion La Confidential has a better and better assorted cast than Black Dahlia .. ..
When I watch this movie I turn my color on my tv to zero and watch it in black and white. It adds a whole different effect to the film.
thats precisely what the director didnt want

Also I really loved the scene where Georgie appeared after being talked about for the longest time. Shame they changed his plot line completely.
If only it were its full length, it would’ve been better
I’m from Lincoln Heights
One of the few scenes in the movie that mostly follows the book. Dialogue and everything
Educational purposes! Yes, like how to make a neo-noir murder movie funny! This is one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen!
The movie may not work on all counts, but this scene is heaps of fun.
👍👍👍👍
0:33-2:37 2 minutes and 4 seconds long take from Bucky's POV. God bless you, Vilmos Zsigmond!

Poor Balto. Further evidence that the Linscott family consists of a bunch of looney tunes.
Some older stars needed to be remembered they were classy great actors actresses. Very unique

Sorry this rendered at only 360p. I love this scene, though.

Do you have any movies or atleast scenes of Elizabeth short? Can't find any except the one called dangerous years alongside marilyn monroe
No, I am not a boxer,
Mike VanHouten what?
I grew up in Lincoln Heights myself and I can tell you all for a fact that there’s no red light district there.

I have never seen this movie before
TBD might not have been a hit with critics or audiences back then. However, remember that even James Ellroy liked this movie.
He liked the original 3hr cut of this movie. Something I hope still exists.

What does any of this have to do with Elizabeth short?
This movie was based on a historical fiction novel. In the book, members of the family have involvement in Elizabeth Short's murder.
