I would go early and run through the album that pretty much changed everything and influenced The Beatles and just about everyone else “Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. Played out of every college dorm window around the world.
Commentators often interpret "4th time around" as a parody of the Beatles' 1965 song "Norwegian Wood". John Lennon composed "Norwegian Wood" after being influenced by the introspective lyrics of Dylan. Lennon later reflected on his feelings of paranoia when Dylan first played him "4th Time Around".
Bob Dylan. You're in the presence of a Living Legend. My Bro just saw him and Willie Nelson And john cougar. Got me a shirt. I wish I could have been there but I've seen Bob 20 times so far. I would have liked to see Willie. Fyi I'm 63.
Well I must say, I was a bit disappointed, Lee that you didn't join in with your little harmonica, maybe next time, lol. Love these Dylan tracks, sad "Blonde on Blonde" is done. "John Wesley Harding" got a lot of play in my house, for my two cents. Great reaction as always. Blessings all.
My appreciation for "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" was boosted in 1976 by Dylan's album "Desire". The intriguing lyric from the song "Sara" - "Staying up for days in the Chelsea Hotel, Writing 'Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands' for you." Is this lyric true, or part of Dylan's frequent self-mythologizing? Either way, the lyric is powerful. The album "Desire" followed the classic 1975 album "Blood on the Tracks". Both albums were roughly a decade from Dylan's wild "electric years", and from his marriage to Sara. These 2 albums followed his divorce, and a matured Dylan was contemplating his loss, his life, both his past and future.
It melted my soul there for a bit. The whole trilogy led up to that one moment. I felt it. I didn’t feel it the first time I listened to it (which was my 2nd Dylan song I think)
@@L33Reacts I only just saw, that you’ve done Once A Upon Dream, 😉👍 Be sure to listen to Dreamtime, from the Magnification Album, another fabulous performance from Jon’s vocals, and naturally, the rest of the band match him, it has incredible energy.
Not usually a fan of Dylan covers but Juliana Daily's "Sad-eyed Lady of the Lowlands" is unimaginably good. Thanks for bringing this old-ass on your musical journey!
Sara on the Desire album, about 10 years later. Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands was about his wife at the time of their marriate, Sara at the time of their divorce. Strong personal lyrics on Sara, trying to stop her from divorcing him
Sad Eyed Lady has a dreamy sound, I think to match the state of mind of someone in love. The lyrics are probably impenetrable because it's filled with such deeply personal imagery that would have meaning only between Dylan and the subject of his love.
I always loved "4th Time Around". As others commented, Lennon was a little paranoid about it as he (correctly it turns out) thought that Dylan was sending up Norwegian Wood. i'm going to see Dylan in Liverpool on Sunday. First time seeing him in over 10 years. Have seen mixed reviews of recent shows, but Jim Keltner is on drums now, and I love Rough and Rowdy Ways - actually think it's a late-career masterpiece and up there with his best. He does 9 songs from it in these concerts. Also booked in for the National Trust tours of Lennon and McCartney's childhood homes. Second visit - did it last year. To stand in John Lennon's small childhood bedroom and look out the window onto Menlove Avenue is quite a head-trip.
Semi-well known fact... Lennon was obsessed with Dylan and "Norwegian Wood" was his most obvious attempt at writing a Dylan song. "4th Time Around" is Dylan's goodnatured parody of that song--listen to them together and you can't un-hear that. Once you put it together, those last several lines become a pretty biting clap-back at his friend: And I, I never took much I never asked for your crutch Now don't ask for mine
Bob Had a beautiful melody and attached his memories of a sad romantic breakup with it. All the music on this segment of the album is just fine, melodically and rhythmically! Pure genius!
❤❤ Lee, sometimes watching your reactions, I wonder how deeply a song from today can affect our minds as the oldies, like Sara can?!?! Maybe its my age, vut not many today 😢 ❤💕💕
It's definitely about Sara, In the song entitled 'Sara' on Desire he sings, "Stayin’ up for days in the Chelsea Hotel Writin’ “Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands” for you".
A superb album indeed. May I suggest "John Wesley Harding" next, it is my most loved Dylan album & the 1st of his "electric" folk style, with some awesome tracks, not excluding the title track.
I think that Bob's "Sarah" is a better synonym of this song. Although shorter and sweeter, it captures the same sentiment, but with greater feeling and passion.
drummer: them nashville mf'ers could play 2 or 3 instruments at the same time if need be, if Ted the organ player called out sick, they just take double duty🤣😂🤣😂
he always, always puts the late "s" on words in this period, slurred out speed freak, up for days in 1966...."sad eyed laaady of the loooow land.......sss"
Here is an idea for a fun video. 1st play Subterranean Homesick Blues by Bob Dylan - the studio version with the official film. Then watch Bob by Weird Al Yankovic - it will be worth it, promise.
who in the F made u listen to "sad eyed lady" as ur only second time listen to a dylan song?!?!? ....thats lime drinking ur first beer & someone's like "no...drink this keg of vodka instead", lol...p.s., 4th time around is beautiful:D
Why would we want him to? So many others already do. From Dylan: “Anybody can be specific and obvious. That’s always been the easy way. It’s not that it’s so difficult to be unspecific and less obvious; it’s just that there’s nothing, absolutely nothing, to be specific and obvious about.”
Since you love all these great tunes by the great artists of the sixties (as do I) I recommend that you react to the covers that Richie Havens made of their songs. He has a very unique way of playing the guitar and he has a great voice; he sings from his heart and soul. A good place to start is with Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather". ruclips.net/video/ejH-wgI270o/видео.html
What album should we hit next by Bob? I have heard all kinds of ideas, but I need something to come back to like this comment, so leave them here!
Gotta do "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts"
I would go early and run through the album that pretty much changed everything and influenced The Beatles and just about everyone else “Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. Played out of every college dorm window around the world.
Next album is John Wesley Harding. It’s a good one.
You need to do Blood on the Tracks..
@@alanbrown8527 freewheeling is a must. You’ve done at least one already.
This album is so good. Just one great song after another.
Check out Van Morrison’s cover of Dylan’s, “It’s all over now Baby Blue”. It’s from when he was with the group Them. One of my favorites.
Sad Eyed Lady is one of my favorite Dylan songs. He wrote it for his wife Sara.
I suggest the album-Before the Flood by Bob Dylan and The Band!!
A very under-heard classic, one of my favorite Dylan albums.
Commentators often interpret "4th time around" as a parody of the Beatles' 1965 song "Norwegian Wood". John Lennon composed "Norwegian Wood" after being influenced by the introspective lyrics of Dylan. Lennon later reflected on his feelings of paranoia when Dylan first played him "4th Time Around".
clearly a parady of Norwegian Wood, and a very funny parady

same as "John Wesley Harding" next

@@jraben1065 Lee should do Sara next. I think.
Glad you appreciated the emotional harmonica solo at the end of the song, as I think that it is probably the best of his long career.

I have never heard the first two. Even more to discover. I love this channel ❤
I'm glad you decided to re do it. It seems like you appreciate it even more now 😊
Steve Howe covered this song, with Jon Anderson on vocals.
And I love it.
ok now that I have to hear lol

Adrift on a sea of experience

Lowlands is a take on Sara's last name which is Lownds I think.

"Time out of Mind" is a great album! Every song on it is wonderful.
He was a song writer, undeniably.

BLOOD on the Tracks
I cannever get enough Dylan.
BoB ... love it ...
ok, next one L,ive in 1966 with the band . Trust me, brilliant.😊😮
Synchronicity! with Long, Long, Long!
I wish them luck, but a Dylan biopic will be a tough nut to crack
Bob dylan reaction time it's Tuesday

Always thought this was Dylan revealing his core in this song. He seems to reek of tenderness for women even in his vulnerable angry moments.. 🌹❤️
'Freeweelin' includes 'Hard Rain' perhaps he's greatest song.
'Staying up for days in the Chelsea hotel. Writing 'Sad-eyed Lady of the Lowlands ' for you' - 'Sara' My request a few months ago.

I think you should listen to Joan Baez sing Diamonds and Rust. She was very angry at him, and hurt. She cut him down with poetry.
Street Legal is a good one
In particular "Changing of the Guards" is just very fine.
Try to learn this song (sad eyed lady )... by heart...it takes your soul...it took me years but it was worth while
I think that Bob's "Sarah" is a better synonym of this song. Although shorter and sweeter, it captures the same sentiment, but with greater feeling and passion.
is that sad eyed lady ? i shall listen more ....
The lyrics and delivery are brilliant. Who else could do this? Perhaps Leonard Cohen?
Have you ever listened to Brownsville Girl (initially New Danville Girl) certainly worth a stroll around.
Blood on the Tracks

No. It's not.

That's what I thought too! Way too much at first!
If you ever get the chance, listen to Joan Baez sing this song.
An interesting set!
Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands is fine poetry.
Why can’t Bob Dylan sing in a natural way?
Why would we want him to? So many others already do. From Dylan: “Anybody can be specific and obvious. That’s always been the easy way. It’s not that it’s so difficult to be unspecific and less obvious; it’s just that there’s nothing, absolutely nothing, to be specific and obvious about.”
@ Okay.
I still enjoy a more natural style, so I would want him to.
Like “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright”, Witmark demo 1963.
