They really have NO idea! I have told my Dslr buddies to buy one so they can get into Mirrorless. When they see the quality of the images they are like WHOA!
Ripper of a lens Matt. Great to see Viltrox upping their game. Amazing results from the Z50. If I still had a APSC mirrorless, this would be a no brainer. I'm looking forward to an 85mm 1.2 and Viltorx 75mm 1.2 comparison. Very nice edit. Well done.
I have the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 which is also a very impressive APS-C lens with both DX and FX Nikon Z cameras. I bought it to be a compact hiking kit with my Z30 when shooting nightscapes, and found that it also works very well on my Z9. The 75mm probably won’t make it into my bag, but it looks like a real cracker for it’s price as well.
Hi Matt, what a great video! I was intrigued by the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 but was beaten to the line by my son who, on my recommendation based on your review, bought one for use on his Z30. It’s certainly an astonishingly good lens - both for stills and for video, although an ND filter is essential for daylight video shooting if one is to take advantage of the wide aperture. I pinched it to do some testing on my Z9 and have discovered a gem, albeit forcing me to shoot in DX format. I imagine that if Viltrox produced a similar one for FX it would sell like hot cakes! Thank you once again for opening the door to outstanding items of non-Nikon kit that compliment one’s arsenal of essential equipment 👍🏼🇬🇧
Understand this. The z50 is a Beast! Especially with superior glass. I love my kit lenses but I can tell you the files that come from the z50 with my Z 24-70 |2.8S and Voigtlander 40mm|2 and 58mm |1.4 bring a smile to my face each time. The af can be a little challenging at times but I often use single-point af like I have always used on my Dslrs. When focusing on people's faces I use the eye detect. The firmware updates have improved the eye focus ability big time. I will be ordering this Viltrox as I love the focal length.
I own z50 with both kit lenses and i bought viltrox 13mm 1.4 and sigma 56mm 1.4. Both are amazing lenses and i am so obsessed with this viltrox 75mm. Also planning to buy 180-600 in near furure. I was skeptical about choosing a Z DX initially, but I am now overwhelmed with the availability of choice of lenses!!
The results look great. Wish it were a true 75mm for aps-cameras. I have been using a Vivitar Series 1 85mm f/1.8 with a Canon EOS to Nikon Z adapter on my Z50. You mention the fact no IS in the camera, reminds me of the days of film and early digital. You learned to be rock sturdy for shots.😉 I enjoy my Z50 along with my Z6II. The Z50 was the camera I brought 1 year after my chemotherapy as I had promised myself a camera. I had brought a Canon M5 before I was diagnosed with cancer so I had to return it. So then the Z50 had come out after. The only disappointment was it didn’t have a shutter release jack for manual release. I also got a 7Artisans 12mm f/2.8 II aps lens for the Z50. As always thank for sharing with us. Have a great week! 📷☕️
Oh Matt. I wonder if you could add in the Nikkor Z 85 1.8 S to the comparison between the Nikkor Z 85mm 1.2 and the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2. I am impressed with this video. I did see the green chromatic aberation coming in, even after RUclips has its way with your video.
Had it on my Fuji X-H2, aside from my wildlife lens, this was my favourite. Super sharp, minimal aberrations and beautiful bokeh for an APS-C lens. A comparison between the supposedly upcoming Nikon Z 105 f/1.8 and this lens would be pretty interesting. In theory, they should provide very similar results.
I own the Z50 (with both kit lenses) a great travel camera. Also own the Vitlrox DX 23 mm 1.4 great fast lens, my only complain is no VR. I have been thinking of investing in the new Nikon 180-600 (since it has VR), it be great to have you use this lens on your Z50 and get your feedback.
Love your Channel. Please test this lens on Full Frame Z8 and Z7 PORTRAITS f1.2 @ 112.5mm. Would love to see the overall look with portraits at 112.5mm @ f1.2, Cheers...
Very informative video, Matt. Well, I'm not very sure about APS-C lenses. I mean I knew about APS-C bodies since I myself was using the Nikon D5600. Recenetly I've upgraded to Nikon Z6ii and have a Nikkor 35mm 1.8f lens. I'm looking forward to buy a 3rd party lens for Z6ii. Could you please explain if I should get the same focal length and area covered if I buy this APS-C lens? or would the lens have the crop factor of 1.5x? I'm a fashion and wedding photographer and I also create a lot of video work, so which 3rd party lens would you suggest to me (as I was initially planning to buy the Nikkor 85mm 1.8f)? Or should I go for a 24-70mm 2.8f lens by Nikkor?
Great review. Thanks. I just ordered one. Meanwhile, I got the 70-180 but the results were very disappointing in macro mode with the 2x teleconverter. Without it or with the Raynox DCR 250, the results are sharp. It would be great to have this kind of review from you. Meanwhile I reported this apparent issue to Nikon, but I believe it is a limitation
Hi Carlos, I never tried the 2x TC on the 70-180, and the lens had to go back to Nikon. Hopefully I can get it down the track at a later date to try it out in macro. What was your subject matter, and what was disappointing about it?
@@MattIrwinPhotography it was just the lettering of a box. I was testing the different macro magnifications at 70mm and 180mm with just the lens, the Raynox and the teleconverter. The photo with the teleconverter was fuzzy, much less sharper than the Raynox version. I can´t post links here, otherwise, I would show you the difference.
I have the X-mount version of this lens, my only complaints are lack of contrast compared to Fuji lenses on a X-H2 and also the weight. Not sure it is a good pairing with the Z-50, it is too big for it.
I use my Z 24-70mm |2.8S on my Z50 all the time. I handle the camera by the lens with my left hand and my right hand follows to handle the camera which has a deep grip. I also have the Fuji Xpro 3 and the sizable 18mm |1.4. I have big hands and come from Dslr (D3) and D700. My technique of holding by the lens rather than the camera body had to change. It was for the better. I actually prefer this option as my large hands cradle the lens and weight. What I have also come to notice is that there is a lot less wear and tear on the camera body. After having the camera for the last 3 years, the rubber on the body is still intact unlike my Dslrs where the wear and tear showed. I live in Bermuda where we have Very high humidity which plays havoc on Nikon rubbers.
Thank you for shooting with the Z50. Seems like everyone else has forgot about this nice little camera. I love mine.
Agreed, it’s under rated.
They really have NO idea! I have told my Dslr buddies to buy one so they can get into Mirrorless. When they see the quality of the images they are like WHOA!
I love mine too🫶🏻😊

Hello Matt! Thank you for including the Z50! The result looks amazing and the exterior of the lens looks really good too!
Enjoyed watching your video!
Excellent video 😊!

I love that lens. I got it on the ks for like 289. It's like way more now on Amazon. Absolute bargain. Love it on my zfc

See my comment above...many have no idea what special sauce is in the z50.

Yessss pls make the versus video with the 85 1.2 on both crop and ff!!!

Very interesting. I would love to see your results on the Z7. Cheers!
Hi Roger, yes I will try at a later date, it think it won't be that different to the Z8 :)
Love that yellow jacket, I bet it is warm!! Well done!
Amazing video as usual!! 💖
Imagine using a full frame to APSC converter and turning that lens into a f/1.0!
The same one is coming to me. I will review soon)

Indeed I pre-ordered the 180-600mm and so impatiently waited and scoured the internet for any 180600mm content.

Surprised to see you are still on the older 2.11 firmware for Nikon Z
What do you use to edit your photos?
Capture One 😀

Don't forget to add cheaper 85mm 1.8 S as well.:)
One on the Z8 and one on the Z9 at the same time for the same shot, since the sensor is the same it will save you time switching.
Can you use Viltrox 75mm on Z8 without aps-c crop?
If you can, how much vignettes does it have?
Hello Matt, It dose look a very small and light lens.... May I ask an off subject question How are you finding the Mac Studio?
Great review. Thanks. I just ordered one.

Viltrox 85 f1.8 vs 75 f1.2 for z6 only family portraits and travel ?
Hi Matt, I need to replace my Z 100-400 Collar any Idea ???

Isn't it canon (pardon the pun) that non-Nikon lenses get 1-3 axis IBIS while native get 5?
Viltrox roxxx with this kind of offering :D
