    Im surprised how mant people want you to compare it to the 24-120 f4... apples and oranges no? So much more light at f2. I'm sold on this lens. Thanks for your time.

    Wow... I've been on my DSLR-F-mount fence for a looong time... I think, with this lens and the Z8 it is now finally time to go into the Z system...! I think you just gave me the final nudge. 😊
    Great impressions-video Matt - gives a really good feel for this lens - very helpful, thank you!

    Would you recommend 24-70 f2.8 s or tamron 35-150 f2.0 for general purpose event photography as a first professional lens?

    Definitely a lovely lens, Matt and, as usual, you've done it justice. As you know, I'm a sucker for "under the bridge" shots. I've been a camera troll from way back! 😀 You've got so many great locations in Melbourne!

    Looks like a banger of a lens. Very tempting. Would love to see a side by side comparison of images with the 24-120 f4. Less of a view on the wide end but a little more reach on the long end and one to two stops brighter . . . it's very compelling for an extra $900. Maybe you can influence Ricci to do a sharpness comparison and Seth to do a studio evaluation. Seems a great excuse to get you guys togther again . . .

    Great review, Matt! I have this lens on preorder and can't wait for it to arrive. The zoom range covers most of what I personally use and largely replaces the need for both the 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses. It will be great for street and travel photography. Hopefully my copy will arrive before I leave for the UK in early October. Fingers crossed!🤞

    Great review Matt and have to say I love this lens and what it offers. There is nothing else on the market other than the Samyang for Sony that covers this range at those apertures so to everyone that says they need wider and longer then they’ll just have to carry multiple lenses, simple! I personally think this is a fabulous lens and 35-150 is great for low light event photography and you’ll never miss an opportunity because you’re not holding the right piece of kit 😀

    This one looks like a pretty cool lens with great versatility both in focal length and aperture. I like your images done with this lens; 35-150mm is a great range especially for the first Melbourne cityscapes shown in the video. I think I may want this lens but currently have others that would do a similar job. Cheers

    Wonderful job Matt as always. This lens will not disappoint based on what you have shared, I luv my Nikon Z 24-120 f4 as a carry around lens sharp corner to corner and an amazing lens so I won't be jumping ship but Tamron hit a home run with this lens and in the end if you need the extra stop(s) vs. the Nikon and are OK with gaining at the long end but losing on the wide end I say go for it. Take care - Jeff

    I bought this lens and wanted a little more reach. So I exchanged it for the Nikkor 70-200mm F2.8 for 300.00 more on sale at B&H Photo. It is only a few ounces heavier than the Tamron lens with stabilization and more reach with internal focusing with one less stop. I will pair it with the Nikkor 180 600mm and the Tamron 28-75 F2.8 G2 lens God willing.

    Thanks for going through this lens, Matt! Looks to be a remarkably useful lens! For anyone needing a wider angle, turn it vertical & stitch together 3-4 shots into a pano & crop 24 mm or 20 equivalent out of that... Love the 2.0 @ 35. This could even work (in a pinch) as an astrophotography lens - I'm thinking of aurora shots... Do you think the weight of the lens will mean the focal length tends to creep (shift) as one aims towards the sky?? As far as street photography, my only drawback is that I'd feel very conspicuous with a lens that size... But you'd certainly get great shots!

    Great review Matt,. Thanks a lot! How do you see the color rendition compared to the Nikkor Z's? Do they have the same tonality?
    I have the Nikkor Z 28-75mm f2.8 which I think is better than most would say, at the least in regards to sharpnes. I was so much in doubt about what the Z 24-70mm f2.8 would do better, so I bought a used one from a trusted store. I tested it in the field and I tested it on a brick wall together with the 28-75. The corners were not always better on the 24-70, but in general I could see more detail. I ended up sending the 24-70 back since both the field test and the brick wall test wasn't in favour to the 24-70 as I expected (on a Z6II). The lens looked new but the focus ring - which in general was smooth - had a strange looseness (don't know how to put it otherwise) at a certain point. Maybe it was faulty. The store also tried it afterwards and said it was a bit strange.
    Nevertheless I had a feeling that there was something with the rendering in some photos that was better with the 24-70. Maybe it was just the GAS that came into play but in this review of the Tamron you seem to come to a likely conclusion. Can you comment on this? Thanks

    Great images Matt. This is an extremely compelling lens. Some of the footage under the Bolte Bridge looked like the camera was on a Fluid Head! Do you think the lens and camera are working together more than other third party lenses?
    Thanks for the great review.

    • @MattIrwinPhotography
      @MattIrwinPhotography  Год назад +2

      Indeed that might come down to use case, space, legs, shooting style and various other variables. But when you mix the 35 with the 2.0 and the 150 with 2.8, in one lens ... it perhaps covers more options than any other lens. I suppose we could set up a spread sheet to work it out :)

    Excellent review, now I'm sold! I look forward to get mine. I'm just concerned about the lens's weight and how it will impact the mount (camera and lens itself) when it's used on a tripod. Do you think this will be an issue over time? That said, I didn't find complaints about the Sony version though.

    Great Review! Thank you Matt! It is hard to see quality on youtube. In your opinion, how does this lens compare to the S line lens like the 24-120z if you are looking for sharpness and quality? the 2.0 sounds great, but does it get a bit soft? Thanks for clarifying.

    Hey. You having any troubles with lens “communicating” with camera. 2 days ago, shooting video of girl singing anthem. We were both static with no movement and the Z9 kept changing focus modes. Last night, shooting nighttime football , every time I brought z9 up, there was a different ISO set ( not on auto ). Any ideas ?

  • @MB-dq2gz
    @MB-dq2gz Год назад +1

    From the tamron 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8 G2 lenses i owned in F mount I could see the contrast, vignetting and color rendition was not as good as Nikon counterparts. With the former i stopped using all together and just reached for primes in that range. This is an interesting lens, but with the 24-120mm S already being such a great zoom lens. Im not sure that extra 30mm would be worth 2k when it is at 2.8 anyway. For a compact long option i am thinking the 70-180mm 2.8 may still be the better option for my needs.
    Yes it splits the range and peppers in primes on the wide end, but I already own them so there is that.
    What stands out most in this video is how lazy our garbage men are here. Garbage men there are working at 11pm!?! If we had such service rats wouldn't be in my peripheral vision almost every time i pass an alley way in the city! 😤
