Although _A Few Good Men_ is a 1990s movie, it still has a great speech that all started with those five small words: “You can’t handle the truth!”
Fun fact about Willem Dafoe’s monologue in The Lighthouse: Dafoe didn’t blink for 2-3 minutes straight while delivering the entire curse and it was all done in one take.
Amazing
I never knew that.
Ledges’s “Tonight’s Entertainment” scene still gives me chills. That will forever be on of he greatest performances of all time.
It's a travesty Dafoe didn't even get nominated for an Oscar for The Lighthouse. He should've 100% been nominated and won Best Supporting Actor
They're really co-leads
nah just best actor in general, i know joker was also good but nomination at least indeed
Love The Lighthouse getting attention.
And not to mentioned that at least The Lighthouse was nominated for an Oscar for Best Cinematography.
@@ajpat9620 should've been nominated for much more
Best Picture
Best Actor: Willem Dafoe
Best Supporting Actor: Robert Pattinson
Best Production Design
Best Cinematography (Actually Nominated)
@@SomeGuyNamedPhil But on the bright side, at least it got an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography. It's better than nothing at all.
@@ajpat9620 true, it was one of the best films of 2019. Robert Eggars really is a phenomenal director.
@@SomeGuyNamedPhil Speaking of Robert Eggers, his newest film, The Northman is coming.
Samwise Gamgee has such a beautiful monologues through all Lord of the Rings trilogy.
If V for Vendetta hadn’t been the movie for 2005, I was going to throw a fit. Still some of the best monologues in cinema history in my opinion.
"King Kong ain't got shit on me" is such an EPIC line and it's perfectly delivered by Denzel.
Christoph Waltz is a genius level actor!
Seems like Tarantino brings out Waltz's best
Could you do best non Disney animated movies each year 2000-2021
As depressing as they were, the train station speech by Nicole Kidman and the “ I chose Life” monologue by Julianne Moore in The Hours we’re both completely compelling.
King Kong ain’t got on shit on me....
King Kong got nothing on me
(King Kong scoffs and crosses his arms)
V for Vendetta -
this is the best monologue
“Voila! In view humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate.
This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the “vox populi” now vacant, vanished.
However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin, van guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.
The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.
Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add
that it’s my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V.”
Literally watched it yesterday
So your like a crazy person…?
@@matthew_natividad im quite sure they will say so
@@matthew_natividad But to whom, might I ask, am I speaking?
@@ismailperez3753 EV
An honorable mention would've been Smith's "Why Mr. Anderson?" monologue from The Matrix Revolutions.
So happy Call me by your name made it. My all time favorite monologue
Samwise the Brave got robbed in 2003. "I can carry you!" Has me in tears every single time.
Sam's speech in two towers was the best speech of 2002 but I guess they didn't wanna have lord of the rings in two slots in a row
I heard people liked Superman because of Bill's monologue. Also, how did Willem Dafoe NOT get an Oscar nomination for the Lighthouse?
because it's the academy they only nominate dramas
@@SomeGuyNamedPhil The academy nominates all sorts of genres, including superhero movies.
@@jamesmendonca2900They do and I will say they've a tiny bit better, but for the most part they mostly nominate dramas especially in the major categories (Best Picture, Directing, and Acting nominations). The one genre they mostly do ignore though is horror, and well the Lighthouse is technically a horror film. Because 100% I believe Willem Dafoe should've been nominated, he arguably had the best performance of 2019.
110: Are you not entertained?!
I know I am
Adaptation. is so underrated, one of my absolute favorite films of all time.
I can't wait to see that western movie with Dafoe and Waltz!
When I watch Inglorious Bastards, I really just watch it for Landa's monologue, in soft spoken French.
My favorites were sadly not included but they are No Country For Old Men purely bc of Anton Chigurgh and the Green Mile bc that ending monologue had me to tears
THE GREEN KNIGHT deserved to be nominated for Best Cinematography
As well as Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
This is just an idea, but what about Top 20 Star Wars Soundtracks. Now that will be a good video
Anything narrated by Rebecca is gold for me. Theoden, not Aragon had a better pep speech.
Add Year 2022 and you get Robert Pattinson's "The Batman"' Taking about Fear
i know it wasnt an oscar worthy film but i have a feeling that jennifer gardner's monologue (exhale) in "love simon" should be part of the list.
Hey WatchMojo can you make video on Top 10 Valorant Agents
do this same list but with video games pls
I love GLADIATOR and INCEPTION!
The batman opening monologue is soo good
Steve Carrell's speech to Timothee Chalamet in Beautiful Boy should be on this list.
I loved the speech at the end of Girls Trip.
As one of my top 5 faves I of course loved and rooted for Maximus to get his revenge and loved the ending. But I also have to say Joaquin's Comodus was unnerving. He played that part so amazingly he made me and others eager for his reckoning but also feeling sadness and pity for him. Phoenix was brilliant in this movie IMO. 👏👏👏
How does Dafoe didn't get his dues for the Lighthouse man ?? Industry sucks 🤬
Ed Norton's monologue in 25th Hour (2002)?
TEAM AMERICA also had a pretty cool monologue
Can you make best opening scene movie of each year 2000 - 2021
Man as a huge Superman fan Bill's Superman monologue is one of my favorite descriptions of Superman. I'd love to see Tarantino do screenwriting should he actually retire
Tarantino does do screen writing already
I also found Stephen Hawking's speech pretty inspiring
And NIGHTCRAWLER pretty sinister
the dark knight and the green knight both slap
The opening scene of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has a great monologue by Rufus Scrimgeur. "These are dark times, there's no denying it...."
i was starstrucked during the hoark one, i'm so so so mad the lighthouse didn't get even 1 nominaiton at the oscars.... ok there was a lot of competition in 2019 but this was hands down one of the best movies of the year if not the decade

How is this technically thumbed up 51%? People hated this list that much?
2008 was an amazing film for monologues:
-Tonight’s Entertainment
-I Will Find You
et cetera
That scene from Hidden Figures didn't happen though... It was literally turned into a White Savior moment with having Costner's character do something that never happened, more than once at that! He didn't make the bathrooms shared, he didn't invite her into the control room.
Irrelevant. It was a monolog in a movie, and that is what this topic is about...not "non-fiction monologs".
Boss level thespians in this list!!!
Honorable Mention:
*Anton Ego's Review - Ratatouille
YES!
No From Hell? Or Zodiac Bill the butcher, Matthew McConaughey's speech from reign of fire. Walton coggins wagon speech from hateful eight literally there are hundreds more that we could all think of but the last thing I'm going to say is, Tony Colette's dinner table rant and breakdown from hereditary
V For Vendetta was released in the U.S. in 2006.
Here's an idea for a top 10 video: Top 10 worst French name pronunciation by this woman.
And to paraphrase chris Tucker from Rush Hour 3: "You're American, stop humiliating yourself".
Missed the Social Network 's monologue scenes though...!
Ive never been this early, to see all the comments. I cant even think of what my picks would be. Maybe Dark knight.

2022 - "They think I'm hiding in the shadows...... but I AM THE SHADOW!!!
Opening scene of 31 is great.
How about allowing the monologue to play?
Just to be clear about Django Unchained, DiCaprio did cut his hand open when he slammed the table with a fork, but they stopped the scene after his line was over, and they wrapped his hand in bandages, which you see later on. The blood on his hand when he's holding Brunhilda's face is fake, because they thought it would be really good to just play with the fact that he stabbed himself. Beyond the fact that both he and Tarantino have taljed about this in interviews, if that were his real blood that he actually smeared on her face, that would be a literal felony.
Plz do tv villain monologue
Wow. Green knight is number 1. Watch MoJo.... what are you thinking?! I guess we had the crappies movie in 2021 so there wasn’t much to choose from. Nothing except the visuals in Green Knight are worth talking about.
Dude where's my car!
.. sorry if I spoil your wedding plans there friend, if it's any consolation to you you have put a smile on my face. And I am going to miss you
Where is Al Pacino? any of his epic monologues?
Hi
WatchMojo should do Top 10 Video Game events
so number 1 is someone quoting Shakespeare
Not seen Call Me By Your Name, Nomadland and The Green Knight
You need to see Nomadland. It’s amazing.
Please let the scene run. You show maybe 10 seconds of the scene, then spend the rest of the time describing the scene and telling us how magnificient it is. It would be much more effective to let us see the scene instead
Suggestion: Why make a video about the best monologues and talk over the speech itself with very dry explanations??? Just play the audio then make your comments
Where's bane blackgate speech ???
Green Knight? Chlorophyll.:)
Leonardo is a GOAT
We know what 2022 is…”October 31st…
American Psycho has 2 or 3 monologues better than anything in Gladiator in 2000

2014 Emma Stone's Speech in Birdman is more Better...
I love the work mojo does, but where’s the diversity of movies to include black, Asian , Latin trauma, drama, comedy! I.e. new jack city, blade, crazy rich Asians, etc boys in the hood
Pineapple Express marijuana testing scene
this is the bees knees right here
@@Sqwired lol
TLOTR return of the king is the best!
Tarantino is goated
Stopped watching when the first one wasn't American Psycho
As good as the critic scene in Birdman is, 2014 should definitely be Amy’s monologue from Gone Girl
We need this for anime !
Herb Brooks Miracle scene not being on this list is actually insane. Do better
Hans Landa by Cristoph
Waltz
Dilios in 300. To Victory ✌!
You need to write these titles better. It is one monologue per year, not the best 22 monologues of every year… that would be 484 entries.
Sams speech is better.
Why does Mojo never really acknowledge women? This is def not the first time one needs a microscope to find the women on their lists..
I agree 100%. Needs more women speeches.
Christoph Waltz is comically bad in the comically bad "Inglourious Basterds". He's what, 5ft tall and 80 pounds soaking wet, yet the burly Farmer doesn't snap his neck the moment their alone and eventually Landa strangles Diane Kruger with his bare hands. Yeah right. She would've just stood up and worn Christoph Waltz as a necklace.
Presence. All you need is presence.
That bird movie sucked you must have to be from NewYork to understand it or like it! And I like Keaton to!
I'm not from New York, neither is my daughter...and we both loved "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)".
