Keep coming back to this performance as the best one out there. His numerous embellishments all manage to enrich the piece without being tacky and he never overplays the tempo. His slick little improvised ending is impeccably executed too. Bravo John. Joe Lamb would've approved.
NNNNEVER tire of this performance!! I overwhelm at the thought that in my opinion DR Lamb compsed his masterpiece history making "rags" on little more than a casual music education! How much or how little were his sisters able to teach or coach Joe?? overwhelms me the quality of DR LAMB's work!!!! what a high! I'll brave this statement: "ragtime and fats waller stride piano WHO NEEDS DRUGS??? I never have!!!
His playing across the board shows a combination of cultivated and secure rhythmic pulse with thoughtful shaping of each phrase. I remember his playing from the Scott Joplin Festival in Sedalia, Missouri. He was awesome.
And i am back, hearing this again! Gosh, still feels so wonderful listening to this! And stil no dislikes! oh wow, i love John Arpin and his music so much!
Thanks John Arpin RIP...you really knew how to handle the ivories! and thanks to fobohem who put this on - as an oldtime 5string banjo picker I always yearned to pick the old Joanna.. too old now, but still pickin' Music makes the World go 'Round, eh?
Funny you should mention banjo pickin -- I was just thinking that John Arpin was the only pianist I knew who could make a three-piece orchestra out of his instrument (piano, banjo and bass). We're missing him.
Marvelous concert version of this rag! Anyone having problems with the tempo can just twiddle the RUclips gearwheel! I set it at 1.5 speed and am totally marveling at his touch and phrasing as well as fantastic embellishments!
Steinwaygrand, it is available. I uploadd it but now I don't have access to any RUclips videos but there must be a problem with my player in my computer. I can't download the newest version. I don't know if there was a change at RUclips but I have the same problem with other sites, too, so it's MY problem. I never took the Arpin-video away, it must be visible on RUclips. Tamas
Tell me how you found it please! Have tried to hear this version after your recommendation but keep getting the "No longer available"! What do you know that I don't?!
According to family, Lamb loved hearing his rags played "in unusual ways" (I presume sometime... maybe not all the time!). Anyway, while he was alive, his favorite version of any of his rags was Wally Rose's recording of "Top Liner Rag" which is certainly not exactly like the score, but is really great, and can be heard here: ruclips.net/video/mbPie5hvFO4/видео.html

Best interpretation I've heard
creative and free as intended
I like his performance much better in ruclips.net/video/Cfoxym72nRg/видео.html
I agree
What a wonderful and stylish pianist! He brings such poise and finesse to ragtime.
Perfection. The International Piano Master!
He was loved and admired.
Thanks for posting this treasure.

Wonderful playing. One of the finest recordings of this rag that I have heard.

John Arpin absolutely owns Bohemia Rag. Thanks for posting.
Still one of the finest on You Tube.
Joshua Rifkin offers an excellent performance of Bohemia on his "Rags & Tangos" CD... That's the first place I heard it.
John, I've been a fan of yours for decades. This sounds better than ever!
A most tasteful and brilliant arrangement!
This is beautiful piano-playing.
Best ragtime player since Joplin
Outstanding performance! Thanks for keeping the memory alive!
Bravo!
The first Jazz Piano player that has sentiment when playing , the experience is showing up!

Czas leci to nie do wiary wprost....mamy już 2019, a muzyka się nie starzeje. Miło jej posłuchać!

Interesting version. Yet the printed score of Bohemia should be respected ... that is what Lamb expected. I have played it for over than 25 years.
Joseph would love every note of it. What a great tribute John Arpin is paying him!
