Back in the day, Pentax had a more expensive line of Spotmatic cameras that sold as a "Pro" version. They were a black body with white lettering instead of the black lettering on various things and were a bit squarer than the rounded normal version. If you were a "poor boy" that wanted to look cooler you would paint your Pentax black... that's why. I happen to have a "real" black Spotmatic but just as a collector's item. I do have and love the Takumar lenses since I first started shooting sills in the seventies. I have a full collection of cine-modded Takumars and use them for my video production. The look is fantastic though some clients like the cold hard look of contemporary plastic fantastic lenses and then spend ages color grading to try and get the look these lenses generate naturally. I use my Takumar 50 with an adjustable Venes adapter adjustable focus tube which lets me get within 1mm on the fly. I'm still hunting for an 85mm priced right as Takumars have been going up about 3-5% per year as people discover them and they just ain't making any more.
Nice review. Be very careful with those Takumar's! I bought a 135mm f3.5 5 years ago! Now I have 9 of them. Next one for me will be a 35mm f2. Look at them all!!! Just review them all🤪
My wife calls it Takumaritis, a very potent affliction … no cure apparently 😏 I’m on 9 or is it 10 now? …. and no matter what I inject, inhale or swallow they just keep appearing 👀. What’s AF? by the way 🤣
Yea it seems like a proper nice lens. Really gets my aesthetic sense going. For jewelry product photography shouldn't I go for the 1.4 rather then the 4 shown here?
I have one and it's does not reach infinity on a spotmatic. I heard this happens with the pin and you have to take it apart to adjust past infinity. Wtf
If only there were a commercial mainstream drop-in digital sensor with a built-in battery and inbuilt micro SD card slot for 35mm cameras. I have seen some unique ones but no mainstream units... come on Chinese help us out!.
Thank you
Igl got the later M-Version and love it
I have the Macro Takumar 1:1 version of this lens. It’s just plain wonderful, period.
Nice find! Amazing how vintage lenses can hang with some of the newer lenses aside from not having autofocus. Very cool!
There are some serious gems out there... also, I’ll let you in on a little secret - I don’t own a single autofocus lens.

I bought my first Spotmatic from someone selling it because they bought a black one.

Thanks. I already have four... and I want more.
@@gearheadchannel my family calls it: addiction ! Haha
85mm f1.8..... one day I will have one, no matter what 😉
I passed on one about a year ago - still kicking myself.

Betcha can't have just one!
Great review..try the 100mm f4 macro next...what sling bag is that
I haven’t come across the 100mm yet - I’ll keep an eye out for that one.
It’s the original 5L peak design sling.
I'm reviewing vintage lenses in South Korea. Your video was very helpful to me. Thank you.
Thanks. I definitely have more vintage lens reviews on the way. :)

For product shots I’d go with the 50mm f/4 on account of it being a macro… and crazy sharp.

dude... Kenny G and Lando 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I don't know if the internet can handle that much smooooth 😎
Like a Teflon coated baby’s bottom!
Love this lens! Theres an earlier version of it that is a true 1:1 macro as well :)
It’s an incredible lens. I use it a lot on this channel.
Looking for one for my cannon 5d mark 1
Funniest vid thus far! true lol. Thank you!
Smooooooth
LOL Lando - sold!
So smooth that he can sell you out to the empire... and you’ll still hang out with him.
@@gearheadchannel I hardly ever comment but you made me laugh :)
Glad to be of service.

For $25 . Good luck. With each glowing review of this lens the price just rises. You can find a low prices lens for parts
I was REALLY lucky! You’re right - the price will rise with every good review... althoughI think with this lens it’s warranted
I don’t see it less than $125 in good condition
25? Damn. Here it's more like 130 big ones!
It was a very lucky find.
