    It feels like I've been waiting years for this army. Thanks to ‪@officialwarhammer‬ I got the launch box early to get some tutorials ready for you guys, as well as some time to work out what schemes/cities I wanted to include in my army! For Launch Day, I painted up this Hammerhal Aqsha Knight, as well as a Misthávn infantry model which will be on my Patreon later today! Be prepared to take your time with these models, they're not difficult to paint...but they do take a lot longer than you'd expect, even with the infantry. With that in mind, I'm glad I can use different schemes across the army so I don't go insane painting the same intricate details again and again with the same colours. Hope you enjoy this video, and let me know if you have any schemes in mind you'd like to see me tackle!

      Not really, its clean and thematic models. Plus details are not that simple obviously.
      This is detailed in areas you dpnt need. Not a good thing. Unless you dont paint or paint minimalistic like most which is wasted on "detailed" models haha.

    • @MediocreHobbies

      They are for sure very busy. But having painted a knight and an infantry now they were quite fun to paint. My plan to keep them interesting is to do a different city colour scheme for each unit. I think I will enjoy that a lot.

    I kind of like painting more detailed models because they pick up washes, drybrushing etc better, and have more obvious places to edge highlight if i want to. I usually base coat with contrast paints so the more differences I have in value once I finish that, the easier it is to apply the other highlights and shadows.

    Hi Andy. I'm curious. I'd have done the metallics after the initial contrast basecoat rather than before. Is there something weird about using metalllics over contrast? I usually count on them to cover any mistakes from the rest of the basecoat. Sometimes we make these decisions cos a paint is easier to use and it's still before the second coffee of the morning ;)

    The community is impossible to please in principle:
    1. Make the miniature smooth or minimalistic, so they will say that "the Oldhammer models were so high detailed!"
    2. Make the model heavily detailed, they will say "too much detail, hard to paint, or the model is overloaded/overweighted."

    I do honestly think that GW need to dial it back on the complexity and level of details of their most recent releases and moving forward. I think it will begin to hurt them long term. Don’t get me wrong, the models look amazing, But looking amazing isn’t enough if the thought of attempting to paint an army intimidates you beyond the will to complete it, due to the excessive level of detail for details sake.
    I remember when GWs drive was to get young people into the hobby, I was part of that target demographic and it worked. My first army was vampire counts. Even as a young novice painter, most of the models were absolutely a decent tabletop standard. If then, I had something like this or the likes of lumineth to contend with, I’d of probably fallen out of love with the hobby.

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  11 месяцев назад +1

      I still feel they do Greta work getting people in with the likes of marines and stormcast but yes some armies I do feel you need some Experience to get rite.

    • @noticer786
      @noticer786 11 месяцев назад

      @@MediocreHobbies my concern with that is that if it carry’s on in the direction it’s going in, we’ll have an entire generation of hobbyists that will all play stormcast or space marines because the insane detail will only appeal to competition painters and not the tabletop.

    • @soogymoogi
      @soogymoogi 11 месяцев назад

      @@noticer786i feel like there's still a lot of easy to paint armies out there. My first ever warhammer purchase was the old start collecting box for Sylvaneth and I feel like they're not a bad place to start as a beginner unless you're jumping right into a more detailed smaller model like the arch revenant. I also paint Nighthaunt and those aren't bad at all though I suppose it depends how detailed you want to get with it.
      Contrast and speedpaints have also made it super easy to get something half decent looking, and most places that do casual play don't even require you to paint... i don't think the problem is as bad as you think
