"some units that look middle-aged and sad"
Finally, an army I can relate to
Representation for us
The only miss from these new models is the lack of greatswords. I need my fashionable men with big swords
@@Bezosisgod"FAITH, STEEL, AND GUNPOWDER!"
@@Bezosisgodsame but for AoS i want a halberd unit to like a «royal guard» type of deal that either have great swords, shield and spear or helbards
There's only 2 things from the new range I desperately want, 2 cannons and metal wizard as I want to be a dwarf player
Same here

Oh and a Thank You to Warhammer for finally sending pre release models to TTT. mmm wonder if you will ever get an invite to Nottingham 😊
GW looks like they're going back to a more classic engineering approach with universal joints and simple poses. I really appreciate that. The Ork Kommandos were and excruciating process of hunting down which unique joint bit I needed rather than just clip off whatever and glue. And that just makes conversions way easier and that where I have the most fun.
Thanks for pointing out the good and the bad of the kit. It's refreshing seeing someone in the community who doesn't pretend that every issue with kits is "GAMES WORKSHOP BIGGEST MISTAKE SO FAR?!" But also doesn't praise a kit with flaws into high heavens.
The advice on making sure you take time to switch colours and make it feel the way you want is exactly why I resprayed my kroxigor 3 times. Instead of continuing my painting I completely started over to get exactly what I wanted. It's one of the most important steps to get right and taking time is what does the trick
I love the paint scheme. That purple is great!
Now waiting for Dave to be cast in the next Musketeer movie with the costume and mustache twirl 😂
Hes trying to make them match his Twilight Sparkle Stormcast, spreading friendship and learning lessons throughout the mortal realms. (😂)
Weren't the Musketeers French?
@maxbrandt6 In the movie, and in the context of the above comment, yes, but the TERM Musketeer is just a type of soldier in the Renaissance.
I guess the size difference between the freeguild soldiers and the knights is to maybe reflect that the knights are wealthier. They look like they're in better shape next to the average guard. Lovely video as always!
Indeed, it's just a matter of nutrition.
Actually, majority CoS cavaliers are not aristocrats, but veterans who earned enough money to buy a membership to a wealthier free guild with horses and armour.
Its just in AoS majority of people use vials of Aqua Giranis - live water, practicaly a healing potion, as money. The richer person gets the more acces for life water he will get. Thats why wealthier people in AoS can live far past the century and probably why they will be healthier, stronger and taller
@@user-cd8ke3it3w so they are a defacto aristocrat neat, not fully with all the titles but basically it
@@oscarandreas1431 yeah, pretty much. CoS society is a wierd merge of medievel religious fundamentalism and some sort of capitalism thats resembles our own. One of the biggest motivations to join the Dawnbringer Crusades and become a soldier is to hagglr up a new conquered land. If this colony will hold against first waves of enemies, it will become town, or even a city - and future family of the soldier will become a landowner right in the center of thriving community, bringing wealth and power
@@user-cd8ke3it3w huh neat, manifest sigmarisem
After your last AoS battlereport, I just can't wait, to see those new Cities of Sigmar, defending another small village or farm.
Perfect box set to convert into an entire Turnip28 army!
Praise the roots!!
That's so true! o_O
I'm planning on using the turnip 28 heads for these guys
Fantastic idea
I love how your change in color completely changed the tone of the models with the base colors feeling very dark and grimey like a force that has been marching for weeks without a break fighting for survival while yours seem almost parade ready as they march in a glorious formation in sigmars namem
Now thats a cool costume
LOVE the pale/white armor on the horse! These models look So good, can’t wait for individual releases.
sigmar dave looks really good on liam's armor. You are right, we should normalize big hats, they are iconic (to those wondering what this is about, make sure to see the videos with subtitles on)
I love watching your videos while I paint minis
Something I found out from Adam Savage's channel. The reason for gold edging on pages wasn't originally aesthetic. It was to keep out bookworms, which can't stomach gold leaf. Makes perfect sense when you take as axiomatic the idea that "The purpose of a book is to protect the information inside."
As a longtime Empire player: 2/10, distinct lack of puffy sleeves and oversized bonnets. Literally unplayable!
I'm also not a fan of these new models and prefer the old ones. But on a side note, the new manticre leader model does look awesome except the tail needs to be longer which is easily fixed.
It is obvious that both the design changes and the over crowding of "details" is only there for IP reasons.
Most likely so that people don't ask them such pointed questions as why are the Warlord Game Landsknecht so much cheaper? And what about those Perry Mounted Men at Arms they are so much better and cheaper?
Very cool costume you have there! Sounds like a really nice box if you want to start an army.
Always love your videos!
This box seems pretty substantial!! The book and cards look great, but I hope they're available separately, either on launch or in the future. The militia sculpts are really nice too!
The never-ending passion for the hobby is just so infectious. Watching the reaction to the unboxing was my favorite part!
I think if I am going to get the Infantry set, I will make sure to get some Landsknecht head resin prints
Make that spat about spats in to a short, was the most fun part of the video, i just loved it
Cavalry being larger scale is a pretty common issue with GW stuff. Just check out Chaos Knights and Blood Knights.
I like the spats, I sometimes will shave away the stirrup to make them resemble a boot more. But I agree, I wanted more diversity in the footwear of some of the models. BIG STYLISH BOOTS.
I would love to see Jazza add a leather book cover to the battle tome. Give it that old and important book feel.
What a gorgeous outfit in the intro and outro! :o
That's some quality costuming. Not quite a bog-standard Epic Armoury cuirass.
Can’t wait to get mine! Still a bit torn on which city to do. I like excelsis, grey water and misthavn
I think thus guys are a but too imperial guard in my eyes, specifically the rules but in easthetic theres thankfully only a light comparison.
Not gonna pick up the army box but will consider getting some steelhelms one day
That was fun, Id like to see some more cities of sigmar content in the future.
Thanks! Very helpful. Preordered my box. )
Holy shit! That voice at the start was phenomenal!!
That was the exact same reaction I had to the textures on the Alchemite. It's a really solid box!
Thanks for the video it’s so nice seeing these models and can’t wait to pick up my own set on launch!
The knights being bigger than the regular troops is like the new kasrkin being bigger than the cadians. It is bizarre and uncalled for.
Can't wait to grab some of these bad boys for my feudal guard/ imperial knight army
Dave, I love the paintbox and also the ‘roleplay’. A ripper video allround!
Very honest and helpful critique
The Slaves to Darkness book has the same gold paper edges as well. Thats one of those details that just makes the book....ooof.
Really pops as a ce/limited vs just a book with a diff cover. That and the ribbon page marker.
Mines gonna be a city in the Life realm, with a seraphon embassy and a allied grove of sylvaneth.
Thinking ill call it EdarGrove
the gold sides are on all the new limited edition from the box sets :D
also got it on my Seraphon and Slaves to Darkness battle tomes :D
They seem great for guard conversions
Just saw how you showed off the kitbashes you made, I can't wait to use them for traitor guard
Like how they are so unique
Ive never even considered buying any AoS stuff until now. Your color scheme is wonderful btw
I see the knights have heroic sizing.
I was issued gators during my time in the British army a little over 10years ago. So they’re not quite gone from modern militaries just not commonly worn, personally I didn’t have a clue what they were for at the time 😅
I see you had the same idea about making it a medieval world guard regiment for 40k X) oh and great outfit and accent you got there!
This is a hit and miss for me, I loved how empire included different social classes in units, you could have a peasant who didn't own shoes fighting besides an upper class soldier with a gilded breastplate, it really portrayed the setting of men uniting together against evil.
You better paint the god damn manticore!
LMAO I absolutely feel you on the spats pandemic, just started painting GSC and couldn't unsee 🤣
The Knights being taller and bigger sorta makes sense they likely eat better and work out much more.
People don't become 8 feet with better food.
@@alcovitch it's also a medieval fantasy universe so most people wouldn't be 6 feet tall
apparently the lore of the eight realms has richer humans absolutely loving to drink "aqua ghyranis" the waters of the realm of life
we know it works basically like a DND healing potion and can make you live to over 100, so it making you like 7 feet tall is possible, though probably not intended by the designers
Oh those minis look fantastic. I want it just to use those as like bandits and stuff in D&D.
I used to do Napoleonic Reenacting and can confirm the info about the Gaters, they are also lighly uncomfortable to wear
I can't speak for all branches of the military or squadrons in the AF, but I was in a smaller squad in the AF and we were issued gators... granted I never had to use them, and they had me return them when I was stationed elsewhere, but they're still issuing gators in modern day military, we're just not in situations were we needed them very often. Just my 2c, you're absolutely right... they're not needed on so many different models, they could and should get creative and add more diversity to the model units.
Especially in a medieval fantasy. While I have no understanding of military operations, I certainly can't imagine low level peasant soldiers being issued and then wearing them in all campaigns, especially when half the realms are described as dust bowls. It made sense for trench warfare, but the ashen dry plains of ghur? The steel deserts of chamon? The sunburnt wheat fields of Hysh? The black sand deserts of whatever the realm of death is called?
So, I just restarted this hobby from the beginning after loosing everything i had a long time ago. I agree abou the Spats and Gaiters part.
I'm so glad at least one person is on my side about the spats spat
Ah hell, those are spats? I thought they were bits of metal armor to add protection to the feet and lower legs. I painted them with leadbelcher!
They should have kept the Free Company set for Cities of Sigmar.
First GW product I’ve been tempted by this century!
Greetings! I just wanted to say that I found the d'Artagnan-ish / Musketeers-esque get up, was a particularly nice touch, thus i salute you!
Also, how lucky, that you were already in the possession of the right and proper facial amd scalp hair ;D
A Very regal scheme, I tend to always go gritty. The purple and gold really give a very high class feel, something I didn't realize is quite appealing
You should always wear your moustache that way Dave. Looks good mate!
Looks like good parts for a Kruber conversion.
SO THAT IS WHAT THAT PART OF THE UNIFORM IS CALLED
As a MESBG player, wow. Kind of blown away at all the stuff that GW does for other games
Spatts are actually very handy and they are very popular with people who hike the back country.
Look at them luscious locks 💕💕
The knight’s do look dope😎
ì se my self using these minis for a Knight world inspired 40k dnd style campaign.
100% making a guard regiment with these guys
alright, i need to know where you acquired that leather hat!
oh, and great content haha
All dave needs now is a massive feather for his cap
I genuinely think city of sigmar should be the main line/poster faction for AoS
On note for cuffed boots, I immediately thought of slaves to darkness where almost all their units have cuffed boots.
Bro i am 100% SURE that i am going to combine these models with the new old world bretonian models
Fun video, love the commentary and criticism, and medieval Dave is an awesome look.
Lovely scheme!
Cant wait to see the updated Duardin models in a few years
Leg wraps might be a good option because a lot of medieval troops would be using them in a lot of places.
You could even say humans have become addicted to gateraid! XD
Fascinating review. Not even particularly interested in warhammer atm but talking through the design process is pretty cool. That sometimes even changing one part of the scheme has a ripple effect.
I love that purple Dave!
Best faction, and now proper mounted knights models.
20:44 is the best
Where can I learn a fast summed up of Age of Sigmar Armies and the cities here in video.
The only thing I can think when seeing the new models is:
- The Legally Distinct Iconography and Design, all the better to copyright.
- Over clattered for IP reasons.
Idk, I think this box suffers from the GW too much detail problem. I think everything is so extra, and especially the cavalry look so cumbersome to paint.
And to be a bit cynical, I don’t think these are going to be a kitbash source, as once they put these out separately, each soldier will be $5-7 each. Too expensive to mess around with.
Yeah the "detail" feels like GW overcompensating so that they have something that they can Copyright.
The old empire was Landsknecht, which they really couldn't own the IP to. So now they are making sure that the IP is theirs and that people can't use those cheaper and better historical kits (Warlord Games Landsknecht, Perry Miniatures Mounted Men at Arms).
I like big boots, and I cannot lie.
AH GOD DAMMIT JUST AS I THOUGHT I WAS OUT, THEY DRAG ME BACK INNNNNNNNN
I'm a sucker for damn nice Empire models and tome. grumble grumble
I wonder if the difference in height between the infantry and knights was an intentional, but over done historical point. The average peasant was shorter than nobles due to a poorer diet, I'm pretty sure it wasn't until the late 1800's, possibly even after WW1 that this height difference disappeared in the UK.
Ha ha just watched our friend Kris Belleau on his channel doing an unboxing and Dave have you stolen his moustache?? 😂
Commenting in appreciation of your spat spat.
very entertaining and informative thank you very much
Hi and thank you for this noce video with your great enthusiasm! Would you advice this faction for a complete beginner or there are more easy faction to start with? Thanks again. Cheers🎉
Okay, gaiters on models. I understand the point but winingas were used by vikings and somewhat by the Normans. Give them some fun wool colouring and just call them winingas if you want to be pedantic.
Round Base Heresy 🔥
The size difference between peasant infantry and noble knights can be explained. Better living conditions for nobles, to include healthier diets, means they developed to be bigger and stronger than their infantrymen.
Most CoS cavaliera aren't nobles - they are veterans who can afford to buy a horse and suit of armour.
The most used currency in Cities of Sigmar is Aqua Giranis - vials of healing water that can be exchanged for goods and services. This also means that rich people can prolong their lives far past the century mark. The richer folk is also healthier, stronger, bigger and more beautiful because of it.
@@user-cd8ke3it3w I was thinking more historically, but sounds like it would still follow. The veterans have survived long enough to make enough money to feed themselves and the horses, so better diet means bigger person.
I say what a dashing gentleman with a fine mustache 🧐
Short question: are the Riders Battleline? I play around with the idea of an Knightorder led by the old Valtenmodel :D
If you take a knight marshal on horse o believe they become battleline
@@TabletopTime nice! Thank you :D
GW knew what they were doing with this kit. I just got settled into Deepkin as my next army, and now I'm looking at CoS because damn if I don't love the militia.
Which is infuriating, because I despise batch painting.
I was able to resist.. until I saw that codes. Damn you Dave! How dare you to make me spend cash on stuff I love.. :p
The knights are probably that big to match the other cavalry units
I know it was vastigial but i am going miss the psydo renessance look
I really wish they put effort like this for other non-human factions. Really miss Dark Elves and High Elves.
Lumineth are the High Elves and are eating well. Only Dark Elves are Daughters of Khaine and they're alright. It's the DWARFS that need food imho
They took Dragons off High Elves so they could give them to the Fantasy Marines. HE got kangaroos as a replacement...
@@gileschenery974 High Elves get living mountains and living air, actually. Kangaroos are cavalry.
