  • An instrumental track of "Fantine's Arrest" and "The Runaway Cart" from Les Miserables, music written by Claude-Michel Schonberg, lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel (original French) and Herbert Kretzmer (English translation). Trevor Nunn and John Caird directed the original production, which was produced by Cameron Mackintosh. The music was orchestrated by John Cameron.
These tracks were made using the revised version of the score, from around 1995-1997, which is slightly different from the score as it appears on the Complete Symphonic Recording. The orchestrations also follow these revisions, with the exception of the keyboards- information on the Kurzweil patches for the show is difficult to find, so these sounds are intended to emulate the original DX-7 patches (with varying success, I might add).
In the official score of the show, the songs are titled and grouped together a bit different than how we're used to- for example, the previous song, informally known as "Lovely Ladies" is actually referred to as "The Docks" in the score. In these uploads I try and include both score and informal names in the video titles, but here it was a little hard. You see, in the score "Lovely Ladies" and "Fantine's Arrest" are grouped together under "The Docks", which segues directly into "Cart Crash", which contains what we know as "The Runaway Cart" and "Who Am I?". This ordering is obviously a bit odd, so for the video I decided to split it up based on where the natural break was between songs- so "Lovely Ladies" and "Who Am I" get their own videos, while these two are grouped together because of the segue between them.
Also: I have to admit I did adjust the score here. The bass rhythm during Javert's motif is for some reason is off, and different from how it normally is through the score. I don't really understand why and couldn't get the hang of it, so I adjusted it to the 'normal' rhythm. If anyone wants, I can try and upload the non-modified version as well.
UP NEXT: "Who Am I? (The Trial)"

Thank you for this. I am playing Bamatabois in a production of Les Miz and this has been a great study guide.

Why are my comments not showing up? I'm commenting with the lyrics.

I don't know--I see your comment in my notifications bar, but when I go to view comments under studio it isn't there. I'm not doing anything on my end with it, so I can't say why it's not showing up.
