Hi Ken I'm somewhat new to Jazz. I've listened to throughout my 64 years but never really focused on it until very very recently. Channels like yours and several others that I have subscribed to help educate me not only on the music but the artists and there back grounds. Always look forward to your videos. Thank you.

I really appreciate all the background that you provide about both the lead performers on an album and the people playing with them. Also, the background about what is happening in jazz at the time that an album was recorded. It helps to deepen my understanding of an artist and the specific album that they were trying to make.

Ken! I have learned so much about jazz from you these last few years since I’ve been into the Jazz vinyl craze. Every time I visit Jazz Record Center I keep hoping to run into you. These are
Some fantastic finds. You give me faith that I can find some outstanding originals. That Johnny Griffin Blowin’ Session is outstanding. I have the Music Matters. It’s…. Wow! Wonder what you paid for the UA version. Anyhow, thanks for your love of all things Jazz.

Thanks again Ken, due to your videos my Jazz collection is constantly growing. I only found my love for Jazz 15 years ago and I am still amazed by the wealth of amazing albums out there. The Johnny Griffin album went into my immediate to get list as the Metheny one. As a village guy no record store alive in close proximity and the ones I frequent within an acceptable car drive only serve the headbanger in me but not my growing Jazz fazination so I likely have to get it via Discogs or similar. In two weeks the first Hifi fair of the year is happening in Hamburg and as always I will carry two big empty bags there and fill them up from the vinyl and CD sellers there. My bank account always takes a few months to recover from those trips but the joy to inspect, wash, archive and finally listen to all the new albums is priceless. I always take a week of holiday after this fair to enjoy the new music. Already looking forward to your next video.

Thanks Ken. Terrific video. Great to get your thoughts on the various used record bin finds. Will keep my eye out for the records/artists you covered.
Not often I will pass over an inexpensive record, in good condition, from an unfamiliar artist on a label that doesn't seem sketchy. Some clunkers here and there, but more often than not, they are treats and definitely worth having.

It’s nice to see the love for Hadley Caliman. As a young Saxophone is coming up in the bay area in the 80s I was able to hear Hadley on a regular basis. He eventually ended up in Washington state, teaching at Cornish Institute for the arts in Seattle. He’s a wonderful Coltrane-Inspired saxophonist originally from LA I believe. You can find him With bobby Hutchinson on knucklebean. There’s a 70s era LP of his with Elvin Jones on drums. As far as the LP you are playing, Larry Vukovich is still active in the bay area. Bassist Bill Douglas played and recorded with Art Lande for ECM. Bill also played with Marian McPartland for many years.

Hello Ken, thanks for the video. The Max Roach album sounds like a Shelly Manne I picked up in the Jazz Record Center (last year first time there). It is a OST of a tv series called "Daktari". You have plenty of choice over there. I can get from time to time some similar records, even Japanese pressings. But, to get the great jazz music, I usually have to buy the fabulous reissues we have at the moment. It is more affordable for me and I don't have always to order online. I like to hunt "in the wild" in Brittany (France). Take care. Bruno

Awesome pickups Ken I don’t have any Horace Parlan on vinyl I love the one you played . I had a very pickup I scored an OG mono Donald Byrd Byrd in Hand Here I Am and Devil Whip are amazing compositions by Byrd . Ken that’s a killer Lee - Way record I’m still hoping to find an early press one day have a wonderful weekend . I agree the thrill of the hunt is when you find records while digging.

Nice video. I'm checking it out on a Rainy NorCal Saturday. I too love the hunt and 2023 was a pretty good year for me. Mostly what I posted on JVL. I have about a half dozen of your finds. The older Jackie McLean's. etc. Also, I have ordered from a few Japanese sellers some of the harder to find Blue Notes and I am partial to the LNJ pre king Toshibas as well as the Kings. Those LNJ'sf rom the 70's definitely do not have RVG stamps so perhaps she 60's pressings? Anyway keep me in mind for that Turentine Give away. Cheers,

I've had that same Lee-Way pressing for years, love it! Just a personal favorite recommendation for those who like jazz fused with full orchestra... Dave Brubeck Trio With Gerry Mulligan & The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra - Brubeck/Mulligan/Cincinnati, Decca - DL 710181. Inspired Brubeck and Mulligan in a spiritual journey on this record! I think you singlehandedly just killed Robert Wyatt or at least you're the only person on the net aware of his recent demise.... Regardless, have you heard his rendition of Elvis Costello's 'Shipbuilding'? I'm not a vinyl person, I haven't been since the 90s and I don't intend to become one any time soon but I've been following your channel for the Jazz.
