University teachers usually don't wear suits either, but rather just regular clothing. When we get stopped by the police we don't say anything like Sir either, we just say fx. instead of "Yes Sir", just "Yes". Hell, even the prime minister is sometimes addressed by his first name Lars. The only time I can really think a person would be addressed formally if it's a rich guy who has a butler, and that butler is addressing them formally.

I'm weirded out by this. I'm danish, we always call our teachers by first names. It's not informal or disrespectful, it's just how it is.
University teachers usually don't wear suits either, but rather just regular clothing.
When we get stopped by the police we don't say anything like Sir either, we just say fx. instead of "Yes Sir", just "Yes".
Hell, even the prime minister is sometimes addressed by his first name Lars.
The only time I can really think a person would be addressed formally if it's a rich guy who has a butler, and that butler is addressing them formally.
Where I'm from, we only call teachers by their first names...
Sekgo Wow that's so weird, I'm german and I never knew our neighbors use their teachers first name. Back in my school I'd have to write a whole page "why you don't use your teachers first name" From some teachers I wouldn't even know the first name. Here we always use the last name to talk to people if they are in some hierarchy above us. And of course we say "Sie" (You) instead of "Du" (also you) to people we don't really know, just like the French's with their "tu" and "vous"
