I would like to see Culex and his area explored, and especially the battle arena for Smithy's second phase. There's another Smithy head there and a good look around might help us learn more about him.
For the shaman the reason they have "unused" closed eyes is even though the npc versions never blink, the shaman enemy that you fight close their eyes when they're defeated.
I feel like the Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario games are spiritual successors but none of them had the level of randomness and silliness of Super Mario RPG with the original characters.
I never played the original Super Mario RPG, but you can tell this remake was very thoughtfully done by the team. it recreates the vibe of the stuff I have seen of it. it almost looks like they took the high res models from the original game to do it all over. it looks how your brain thought it might have looked as a kid playing it on your Super Nintendo
Just a blender tip for deleting meshes really fast, select a face of the object and press L. Should select every connected face around it and just hit delete.
The Johnny thing is the strangest thing in this game cause it's never explained, or even really implied, that Jonathan Jones is not a real shark and the remake makes it abundantly clear that at least the "head" is part of a costume.
As a long time player of the SNES version, I spent a lot of time looking at him and thinking it might be the case actually. I am glad to see it has been proven true, but now it brings up the question of how he earned it and why
You can see that detail in the "original" if you look at his character render. So much about those original 3D models reveals so much about these characters, Booster has a lazy eye and that doesn't come across well in the sprites, for example.
he actually has a detailed explanation in his thing after you beat him in the monster list. It says something about him beating their former leader, so the crew looks up to him now.
I've been wondering about it for decades. And when a Jonathan "Johnny" Jones role player finally shows up on tumblr, I ask him about it, because sharing headcanons is a thing people do. Also answering asks about your character is like what tumblr is founded on, and you'd think I just shit in his mouth and choked his puppy. He doesn't want to talk about it, and why would you want to know? Like... okay, are you _role playing_ a PTSD thing... or? To make a long story short, he apparently wants to play it ambiguously and/or mysteriously. So... if you didn't know... just say "IDK?" Like the game _very clearly_ hints at him being a man in a hollowed out shark carcass. Either agree with that, or deny it... but what's with the run around? -I'm too autistic for this crap.-
I absolutely love Mario RPG! This remake made me so happy. I remember all those years ago when the original Mario RPG boundary break episode came out too... We really have come a long way.
That's easily the best looking classic Link model I have seen. I'd have much rather seen _this_ classic Link model in LBW instead of the one we got. Honestly if we were to get another top-down Zelda, I'd love a more fleshed out, properly built model like this (even if its not a full model, its clearly not chibified like LBW or LA) and have properly proportioned characters.
This is my fav 3d model boundary break we've ever seen. Thank you for putting your hard work into this. This video really hits at the nostalgia part of the heart, but gets us inspired for the future potential of these characters!

This was the most eagerly awaited Boundary Break video for me just because of the game’s viewing angle. The way this game mimics the SNES style with the camera movement, it feels like the backgrounds are just a flat image and not 3d models. Thank you for showing this.
I’m pretty sure the toy convertible is only a convertible because the majority of car toys for dolls end up being convertibles so you can easily place toys in it So that’s actually good attention to detail!

I'd love to see close-ups of all the enemies. Not necessarily in a video, I just love the enemies in this game and want to see them in full detail somehow!
I wanted to see any detail on the Terrapin, since they're suppose to just be armored Koopa Troopas. The only variant we get of them are the Paratroopas.
I just checked TCRF and it doesn't look like they have anything, at least not yet. I imagine it's only a matter of time before someone rips all the models and puts them out there.
After nearly three decades, I still wasn't ready for that Johnathan Jones revelation. I love how many things are just fully modeled in this game, even though they really didn't have to be
Was hoping to see Exor's battle with this camera, see if the different things his eyes do are hidden inside the model. Would be interesting to see how the game handles Smithy's transformations as well.
yes! i was looking forward to this episode. i thought all the characters would be standing at an angle like in link’s awakening remake. but it’s nice to see they’re just standing normally
You forgot to show Peach using her Psych Bomb attack, it would've been cool to see her using that attack in various angles. I wonder if Peach has any facial expressions after throwing the bomb.
This was my first RPG game growing up, being in ESL as a young kid and having no internet, I never made it past the puzzle where you have to jump on boxes to answer a question about something found at the bottom of the ocean i believe? This 24 minute video just flew by! Love, love, love SMRPG and so glad you got to do an episode for the remake so quickly. The models look fantastic in the remake. I think the best attention to detail with moving the camera was looking at the Yoster Isle map in Johnny's place that had the race tracks. Also Booster Hill being completely modeled is hilarious lol.
I was so excited for this episode seeing the various posts on the community tab and Twitter, and this lived up to it! Zoom-outs, close-ups, birds, and body horror: this is definitely a quintessential Boundary Break episode.
This remake is soooo good! It stays almost completely faithful to the original while adding a few fun things. This should be the standard for what remakes should be
I do wish they added at least a couple new areas or rooms to existing areas that could extend the game a little, even if they were optional, but I’m still more than happy with this.
Great work on this video shesez! Just seeing how high quality all the textures are shocked me! We need a first or 3rd person over-the-shoulder mod for this game!!
This is my first time experiencing the game all the way through and as a huge paper Mario fan I absolutely love it!!!! Gotta get around to finishing the Mario & Luigi series.
it's been years and you still get surprised at things like good textures that you can't see ingame, or models that are fully modeled even though they aren't visible. you know, the modeling tools don't come in the isometric perspective... when you're MAKING the models, it would be way harder to make it culled from the get go. you just make a normal model and THEN cull it as necessary for the game. making a "high quality" texture is also probably easier than a good low res one.
The reason why some parts aren’t textured but still modeled can be explained easily. 1) Not having a texture saves memory resources. 2) Having the model is important for light mapping purposes. And while it’s true that you could create your lightmap and then have that wall not render while keeping the previous lightmap data, it would be too much hassle to keep track of. Lastly, when creating something like a house, it’s easier to create the whole model rather than leave out parts of it. Hope that helps clear certain things!

8:00 Ok, so this is an interesting Gameboy because there are 4 buttons on it, styled similar to the colored buttons on the SNES. The real Gameboy only has 2 buttons, same with the GBA (which hampered quite a few Super Nintendo ports the GBA got.). So, he has some handheld device from Nintendo that was never released. I wonder why the devs decided to create a Gameboy like this? Maybe because on the SNES version of Super Mario RPG, the 4 buttons did something in the Beetle game, so they wanted to replicate that on the model?
16:55 wellll that's not FULLY modeled. that's basically the equivalent of a character model with no feet and just a rounded bottom. A squid's head goes on for a while, tapers to a point, and has fins on the sides.
I'm really impressed with how much of this game's assets are modeled on all sides. I really thought there would be a lot of empty space when viewed from behind because, frankly, why bother? The way it's done looks almost like it would work if someone were to create a mod for the game where you could view it from a 1st person or behind-the-back perspective.
Always wondered back in the day if Jones was actually a dude wearing a shark costume. The old official art kinda gave that vibe and you could just about see the eye inside the mouth. It's still badass that the guy chose to wear his dead shark nemesis as taxidermy like a Viking wearing bear skin.
4:50 think the sky texture here is just used for the reflection on the water and they forgot to disable culling for it so it would only show in the water and not actually in the sky.
I always knew that the glowy bits inside Jonathan Jones were eyes but I never thought of the implications that the leader of a group of sharks is something in a shark costume and you never find out what it is.
Cinder Toad also has modeled eyes under his sunglasses. His sunglasses are also completely round which is different from how they look in his promo art from the original. It's hard to see without looking closer at the model tho

I finished the remake when it came out but it's still mind boggling seeing the weird and interesting designs of the enemies in full 3D, especially up close like 12:46 and 16:13
Also 19:29 that's the most Booster thing ever hahaha
Going back through and watching all these videos that RUclips didnt think to recommend to me smh. Been watching this channel since the beginning!
Booster walking endlessly off into the void is very Booster of him.
