A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ RUclips. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of RUclips I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on RUclips won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This RUclips channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different
This is a reaction video used to educated and give my feedback on the song and artist

Glad to see you discover this type of music. You need to check out some of the other greats of this era like Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Louie Prima, Nat King Cole and Sammy Davis Jr. They were all super talented and had great bands behind them.
I agree, especially with your mention of the great Louis Prima!
He's hardly mentioned on YT, even though he's such a showman, & such a personality!
Bring on Louis!!
Dean Martin...smooth as butter! Also listen to Bring Cosby.
Let's not forget Mel Torme'
And never forget the sublime Matt Monro, the man Sinatra himself said, had the best voice on the planet!
Glenn Miller
"Fly Me To The Moon" is beautiful... One of those songs you wanna dance to with your wife after the kids go to bed😉
I can see by the look on your face that you can understand why, when this recording was finished, the orchestra jumped to their feet and gave a standing ovation to Nelson Riddle, the arranger and conductor. Everything about this arrangement and performance captures the deep, deep feeling expressed by the song.
Frankie was the best crooner ever.. and I will give him even more props.. for being accepting of Blacks in the time.. Sammy Davis Jr was part of the Bratt pack.. Elvis totally accepted black music and artists.. This was all b4 my time .. in my parents time.. i'm happy they raised me on great music.. from way back then.. and thank my Pop-Pop for my country music roots.. Taught myself hip hop.. Every genre is great.
To really discover the essence of Sinatra, you have to see a performance video. His stage presence was on a whole different level from everyone else. He loved to record in the same room with the whole orchestra. He respected the musicians and they respected him. For a real treat you should watch his performance of Luck Be A Lady. It’s magical. Thanks for your great reaction. 👏👏
My favorite Sinatra song, " It WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR" A wonderful coming of age story
Dean Martin is another from that era!! Big Band Era!!! Fabulous time!!!!💜🎼🎶🎵😊 These guys all had women in love with them. I remember my mom just stopping whatever she was doing to listen to Frank!!!
Sinatra had so many hits in his day. So many mentioned here in the comments section. “My Way” is a song he was famous for among others. He was also an excellent actor. In his first acting performance in “From here to Eternity” he won an Oscar. He was one of the most influential musical artist of the Twentieth Century.
Franks coolest song is Tha'ts Life !
Frank owed a lot to brilliant arrangers like Gordon Jenkins, Nelson Riddle, Billy May and Quincy Jones, but WHAT A VOICE! Quincy Jones said Frank's ability to feel the way to phrase a song was unparalleled.
Francis Albert Sinatra was a “Crooner”. Bobby socksers (teenage girls) would melt when he sang. Everything Sinatra sang was great.
Yes. He crooned to young girls even in WWII. He dodged the draft claiming he had a punctured ear drum, yet he had perfect pitch. He was not popular with WWII vets for dodging the draft and woukd get booed on stage by the men in the audience. Jimmy Stewart served as a B17 pilot. Glenn Miller died serving as an army bandleader in a plane crash over the English Channel. So Sinatra could have served in a non combat duty, but at least serve and take some risk but he didn't. WWII vets called hi Frank Swoonatra in derision for that.
But then John Wayne also got out if thr draft. He was married and had two kids. But the studios needed him to make propaganda movies and thr US Governemtn agreed. frank Capra pulled strings to get him out of the draft as an "essential" civilian. Wayne had to live that and became a super patriot in the 60s--70s to compensate for it.
I love Frank! My uncle played trumpet with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra when Frank was one of the band singers, back in the 1930s. He sings the classic Great American Songbook songs and swing. My personal favorite era was the 1950s, he has so many hits then. You can’t go wrong with any of his stuff. His voice is pure gold, and he was famous for his impeccable phrasing.
A key to Sinatra's sound is that he enunciated EVERY syllable!!!
This is your first time listening to this genre and you started at the TOP! Frank Sinatra, in my opinion, is the GOAT in his lane. Oh...and he lived a long life and has decades of great hits.
The man is a legend. He is"The Chairman of the Board."
Another great Sinatra Song? My Way. Also, maybe check out Nat King Cole’s Unforgettable .
Tracy Dale rumor is he hated that song my way and was proud Elvis picked it up... he said he hated hated singing it haha
My way.. top 10 songs of all time.
Really shows that music bridges the gap between cultures and brings us together.
Fabulous frank!!one of the greatest!!there's more!new York new york!!full orchestra!!enjoy!!!
Frank’s the greatest of all time
Two things you will notice about Frank, the first is his diction. You never need a lyrics sheet to understand what he's singing. He pronounces every word clearly and distinctly while still giving the song that distinctive swing and emotion. The second is his breath control, he could maintain a note for 16 bars, which meant he never had to sneak a breath in the middle of singing a phrase. As far as talent goes, he was head and shoulders above the rest of his peers...a very deep rabbit hole.
Billy May was Frank Sinatra’s musical arranger. They first got together in 1958. That sound you heard was pure Billy May. He arranged one of Frank’s biggest hit album, “Come Fly With Me”. Everything on it is gold.
This was Nelson Riddle
So cool to see a young man appreciate Sinatra.
The key to understanding Sinatra is that he’s really a storyteller with his music. Listen to his live performance in Vegas at The Sands Hotel with Count Basie.
The best ever. The Chairman of the Board
Nat King Cole "Unforgettable" is a great song. Love your reactions James. Perry Como is also a fantastic singer
I'm way older than you and I never listened to this genre of music. I've heard of Frank Sinatra but Wow! I really loved this and now that I'm older I can appreciate it! Please play more of this great listening music... :)
What were you listening to Evangelina?
@@moosey62 I was anywhere from Steve Miller, Toto, Van Halen, ELO, especially the Bee Gees. I could go on and on .
Love to you my friend.
Check out some Irish, Scottish, English old shit.
You will see we all - and I mean ALL of us - use the same chords.
I'm glad I have an aunt that brought me and my sisters to a restaurant called The Three Little Bakers that had live jazz covers of this and others. Sucks that it's now a children's medical center now.
For a diffeent side to Frank Sinatra, check out One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)
Sinatra had so many good songs, try "Love's Been Good to Me". Also have a listen to Nat King Cole "When I Fall in Love", possibly the smoothest, clearest voice you will hear,
Frank was probably the best and coolest entertainer of all time, always accompanied by a TOP orchestra. Often it was Count Bassie's orchestra.
“That’s Life” and “New York, New York” and my favorite “That’s Why The Lady Is A Tramp”.
Francis Albert Sinatra; born in Hoboken NJ Dec.12th 1915, passed away on May 14th, 1998. He was active from the late 30s through the mid 90s; I saw him in concert in Dec of '93; the whole audience sang Happy Birthday to him.
In the movie, The Godfather, the character of Don Corleone's godson, the crooner who sang at his daughter's wedding and the events surrounding him, was based on Sinatra and his (alleged?) Mafia connections. In 1953e won both The Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Maggio in "From Here to Eternity".
Too many songs that he sang to list as "ya gotta here this one, man!"
"All The Way" from his movie The Joker is Wild, the Theme From New York, New York. It Was A Very Good Year. One that no one seems to ever mention is, I'm A Fool To Want You.... I think it was written for him or he had a hand in writing it as it seems like a torch song about/for his former wife, Ava Gardner.
Sorry to go on, but I'm a big fan and this is the first "reaction" to one of his songs that I've seen.
Frank is the coolest cats to ever live.
One of my favorite Frank Sinatra songs is
“I won’t dance “
Frank Sinatra - strangers in the night, my way, blue moon, last dance, fly me to the moon.
This is a great first selection in the Sinatra catalog. Complex tune, but so smooth, stellar band arrangement, and it swings in that inimitable mid-century style.
My favorite singer...forever
There was a reason he was called "Chairman of the Board".
Nelson Riddle's arrangements are fantastic and add so much depth to the songs!
Frank Sinatra is a singer that can sing the phone book and make is sound good.
Frankie is the type that, you cant help but to move the shoulder move and a few finger snaps. " Fly me to the Moon", "My Way" and my favorite "Swingin on a Star".
Listening to Frank is to pull a warm cozy blanket over you and feel better. When my mother died and I was devastated, I listened to Frank for days. 😊 Listen to his Live at the Sands album, it's one of the best albums ever. Pure brilliance. It also has lots of comments from Frank and the audience and also real like stand up bits. Such and entertainer.
This is the Swingin' est Big Band sound!!! A GREAT arrangement from Mr. Billy May!
He was the master of musical phrasing
My Way and Thats Life , 2 great songs by Frank
Lolol.. Sinatra only good song??? There are too many great! Songs to count. He was singer and actor his long life.
I'm in my 70's now, and I remember loving to listen to Frank Sinatra when I was a little girl back in the 1950's. I've followed his music career, movie stardom, "private" life, etc. for several decades until his death in 1998 at age 82. He was a man of his time, and one of a kind.
Great reaction, you might want to check out Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole.
Old blue eyes! Love me some Sinatra!!! 🔥💜🔥
Frank Sinatra was an Oscar winning actor too!😊
My favorite Sinatra song and there are many I love.
Like being swept along by a warm frothy wave and then those trombones. Written by the great Cole Porter; Nelson Riddle Orchestra. A real masterpiece!
No auto tune. Total talent.
Frank Sinatra was Elvis before Elvis was a thing, not in their musical styles, but the way they drove the women crazy! There is a video on youtube where they perform together in the early 60s right after Elvis got out of the Army. They sing each others songs to each other and the audience, it was kinda a passing the torch kinda thing to me, definitely worth checking out!
This brilliant song is written by Cole Porter, who has countless great songs that amazing singers like Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald covered.
The Tender Trap. Love his version.
Frank and Nancy Sinatra "Something Stupid" would be a great one; also love that you're so moved by these oldies but goodies, in the current global crisis, I think we all need something to lift us up a little it.😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
This is Lounge Music sung by Crooners. Frank was head of the Rat Pack, which was Frank, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis JNR, Peter Lawford. They were the Coolest Cats ever born, just natural born legends.
Sinatra's Fly Me to the Moon is a good one
Sinatra really was something else "That's Life", "Send In The Clowns" , "Love's Been Good To Me" & "Cycles" are among many favorites...
Witchcraft is another really great song of his.
I loved his rendition of “stormy weather” that brings tears to my eyes
Nelson Riddle arraigned this and many of Frank's best numbers. Big band is an extensive and rich genre. We'll never have anything like it again.
Im 60, James, and this is the crooner type stuff Mom played on her hi-fi. Many years later I discovered for myself how cool they were -- the Rat Pack, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Harry Belafonte. Listen to Mama Loves Mambo or Jump in the Line.
Two more Sinatra songs I love: "My Way" and "Pennies From Heaven"
Another GREAT Jersey boy!!!😘
You really can't go wrong with Frank. Personal favorites for me are Fly Me to the Moon (with Count Basie & Quincy Jones); One For My Baby (and one more for the road; Come Fly With Me; They Can't Take that Away from Me; Witchcraft... could go on and on.
A true legend, with good reason.
Witchcraft, I’ve got the world on a string, Call me, All of nothing at all, That’s life, Nothing but the best is good enough for me and Mack the knife (live version 1987). These are all gems if you ask me!
Nelson Riddle arrangement. Genius.
Old blue eyes so many hits!! Check out more Sinatra for sure!
add to the other recommendations... Johnny Mathis
Definitely love me a bit of Frank.
Before there was Michael Jackson, before there was the Beatles, before there was Elvis, there was Frank. The girls were screaming just as loud. He had 'em in the palm of his hands. And what a fascinating life. Over the New Year's weekend, I just watched the two-part documentary on his life that's running on Netflix. I highly recommend it. So many Frank Sinatra songs you could watch and react to. Here are a few must-sees: "Fly Me to the Moon," "The Lady Is A Tramp," "Luck Be A Lady," "That's Life," "The Way You Look Tonight," "It Was A Very Good Year," and "My Way" are a good group of songs to start with. And no list of Sinatra songs would be complete without mentioning one they play at every NY Yankees game in NYC: "New York, New York." (You've heard it; you just didn't know it was Frank.). There are probably fifty or a hundred more I could list. Here are just a few others: "The Best Is Yet to Come," "Witchcraft," "All the Way." I could go on...and on.
Those singers were supported by what's called Big Bands. It goes back to, I think, the 20s and continued until about the 60s. Singers from early on (like Sinatra) used the big bands their entire careers.
Fly me to the Moon.
Frank aka The Chairman of the Board, is most famous for his song New York, New York. Also worth a listen is My Way. But man oh man the guy could sing. Just buy any Sinatra album and prepare to be mesmerized.
It's sad to see that most people of your age don't know this music. Frank used to record sitting in the middle of that huge orchestra, all playng and singing the song at the same time. Sinatra was of the age when the lyric ruled and those that interpreted that lyric were its Kings and Queens. It was an age where each syllable was important, where each syllable was clearly sung, and it was the singers job to make them all personal to you. Where the best singers conveyed the meaning behind the lyric. Where the best singers knew that the audience should be treated with respect. Where each song had a melody, and was not just a beat with someone going through vocal acrobatics in order to keep you interested.
Frank was always the coolest guy in the room. Try him singing "Come Fly With Me", "You Make Me Feel So Young", "Witchcraft", may favorite "Summer Wind", "The Best Is Yet To come", "My Way", "It Was A Very Good Year", and about 100 others, give or take. Also try Nat "King" Cole, the master of relaxation, doing "Nature Boy", "Mona Lisa", "Unforgettable", "Stardust", "When I Fall In Love", and of course, "The Christmas Song".
Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis jr., Bobby Darin, & Tony Bennett have some of the best music ever. I love Louis Armstrong too.
You'd probably get a kick out of Matt Monro, a UK crooner, who Frank himself described as 'The Greatest'! 😮
A good introduction to MM would be 'On days like these', or 'Born Free', or 'From Russia with love'.
I love seeing reactions to our greatest singers from the UK too!
Full Orchestra playing the best!! Frank sang Sammy Davis JR 1st black singer allowed to sing live in stage in Las Vegas. Frank continued to sing into 80
Try Frank’s classics, New York, New York or Fly Me To The Moon! He usually performed dressed to the nines in a tuxedo accompanied by a full orchestra. He was a consummate professional.
Frank was one of the rat pack member's. Along with Sammy Davis Jr, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford , that was back in the day.
If you want something new good .Try the Marcus King Band "Rita is gone", "Goodbye Carolina" from jam in the van . I will tell you. he open for Chris Stapleton this year on tour.
Not just a member, but the de facto leader of the pack.
We moved from US to Oz in 1974. My 87 y.o. Mum saw all the Greats during the 1950s both at Radio City Music Hall & Rockerfeller Centre:
The King of Swing & Head of the "Rat Pack", Frank Sinatra himself, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Bobby Darin, Rosemary Clooney & so many others, as well as the precision dancers of Rockerfeller Centre, "The Rockettes" themselves ... And all for the price of an admission ticket!
Such amazing times!
Seems you really liked the band along with Frank. Try some Duke Ellington
frank was also an actor in quite a few movies as well as a singer... this is called 'champagne music', he sang regularly in vegas casinos with dean martin and sammy davis jr.
"Summer WInd" is my favorite Sinatra song.
Frank was great! Is great! But there’s a story behind his Vegas days... check it out ... pretty cool story!! ❤️Tennessee. Oh! If you like this check out dean martin!!
Oh yeah, definitely check out Dean Martin!💜
I always hear happiness in Sinatra's voice every time he sings.
You are in the land of legends This is where the REAL music lives
BIG BANDS OF THE 50'S!

The "Chairman of the Board ". My Way and New York New York are a must
Class, pure class. This arrangement is fire! The orchestration is nearly perfect paired with Frank's smooth voice. I'm glad you appreciated it!!
Frank Sinatra - That's Life
Dean Martin Standin on the corner watchin all the girls go by!
Frank Sinatra: My Way
Frank is the 🐐!! Unbelievable voice, effortless, controlled, and just smooth. Massive catalog of incredible songs. The Orchestras that played with him were some of the greatest musicians of all time. ✌✌✌✌✌
